I had a brief love for APBTs, as I found them to be so wonderfully people-oriented (and, regretfully because I thought they were "tougher"-looking than my other dogs), but I found that the DA was absolutely not something I could tolerate.

When I was a kid I was literally obsessed with Dachshunds. I wanted one soooo badly and was convinced that as soon as I could, I'd get a Dachshund. But now they're really not suitable to my lifestyle and though I still think they're freakin adorable, they're definitely not the breed for me. One of my good friends has just got one, so I get to play with her whenever I want and get my doxie fix that way. :D I just can't see myself owning one anytime soon, if ever.

Working at a pet hotel for years, and now as a trainer, I've been turned off by a LOT of breeds that I used to love. I'm so glad I got the hands on experience with so many breeds, before I got one and it was too late!!!

When I was a teenager I loved Boxers, thought they were the cutest and really wanted one. At the hotel, I met a few Boxers that I adored! Just awesome dogs. All of which were show quality. The rest... omfg! No matter how cute a dog is, I could never tolerate such grating noises. A lot of the Boxers would make a screaming ape noise literally for 8 hours straight in day camp, while harassing and trying to pick fights with all of the other dogs. The worst dog in day camp, this Boxer who SCREAMED non-stop, just happen to move in next door to me. She would get out and jump my dogs, of course, while screaming! Ahhhhhhhhhhh! They were the #1 breed to fight in day camp. No one there liked Boxers, even if they used to love them like me, after dealing with so many outrageously difficult dogs. Few were human aggressive at all, except for food guarding, but they'd claw your face off jumping on you! Definitely an example of an energetic breed getting way too popular with the wrong owners.

When I was a kid I really wanted a Golden Retriever. In the 90s I had tons of friends with great Goldens, and I know a few people now with the coolest Goldens. But again the hotel completely tainted to breed for me, as did grooming!!! I like a secure, confident, friendly Golden. The majority of the dogs who came into the hotel were either super submissive to the point of being annoying, or super quiet and shut down - until the moment they attacked. I have never met a HA Golden, which is a great thing, but the trend towards DA dogs really turns me off in a breed that should never be DA. I also dreaded grooming Goldens more than any other breed. While I remember my childhood Goldens being relatively calm and well mannered, basically every Golden I have groomed is downright frantic, stubborn and just pushes against you with all of their weight no matter what you do. I thought I was going to have a miscarriage from grooming this obese massive Golden, who jumped off the grooming table, right on top of me, and dragged me across the room. I had to pick him up, he would not budge! And my insides felt broken all day. :( That is not how I feel a Golden should be.

I love Border Collies. I really do. But after meeting so many who are crazy and annoying, I think I'll wait a while for THE perfect BC to ever get one again, if I do. It's been an amazing experience sharing my life with Gonzo and I wouldn't trade him for anything! However, I've also learned that a BCs personality doesn't mesh with me. It's not their energy, their drive, their loyalty or their intelligence. It's just their vibe. The slinkiness, the staring, the obsessions. I respect & appreciate the breed but I am just not a BC person I've found.

I don't think there is a breed that I wanted in the past that I won't get. I've only REALLY wanted border collies, danes and koolies. All three I would get again depending on the dog. I mean I go through breed wants every now and then but never go as far as actually planning on bringing one into my home or anything.
You did have your name on a list for a PyrShep once :yikes:

I tend to be about the same though. There's not many breeds I seriously, seriously came close to getting and now wouldn't. I did have several GSDs and it's not a breed I'd get again with my dog situation being what it is (multi-dog, mixed sex household). I still like and want GSDs though, they just aren't a good fit for me at this time. I also had a Collie but am not sure I can really see myself getting another one. It would have to be the absolutely perfect Collie for me. Maybe BCs I guess. I very much wanted a BC for many years. Then last year I could have decided to get one and got Savvy instead. I still like BCs but like someone else said, they sort of lost that "it" factor for me. Overall my tastes in dogs really haven't change much at all since I was a young kid. I didn't know what Belgians were then but I very badly wanted a GSD starting when I was 5 and our neighbors got one. Most other little girls I knew wanted Toy Poodles or Cockapoos or Shihtzus...I wanted a GSD LOL

I used to want Mastiffs. Finally came to the understanding that it was never going to work out. The slowness drives me insane.

I still want one!! It's just not the right time in my life to get one. They are on my to-own one day list. Most likely in the next 10 years or so.
:yikes:

A PyrShep and a Koolie would have way too much fun together LOL

Australian Shepherds. I love them. Gorgeous dogs, love their energy. But nearly every single one I see run in agility barks the whole way through the course. DRIVES ME NUTS. I'm very happy to run with my quiet dog.

I came about two seconds away from getting a Basset Hound once...absolutely no way now!

I used to want humongous dogs too...like Danes or Newfies...they just don't quite suit me now.

Oh yeah - when I was little, like really little - before my brother was even born if I remember correctly; I pictured myself with a tiny little lap dog. A long haired chihuahua or a toy poodle.

Now I'm all grown up and the total big dog girl xd. Even really macho guys don't dare to take on the dogs that I would own.
