We have a Mali Uromastyx, she's our second, and she's great. They are very easy to care for, since they are desert dwellers, you have to maintain high heat but no humidity - plus they are herbivores, so that was definitely a draw for me, I can shop for her at my local Korgers. :D She's very friendly, loves to be handled, and I am kind of hooked on them.

Sorry for the glare, but this is the only pic I have.

My kids handle her, she's not as fragile as other reptiles. She likes to ride in toy cars, she plays in my son's Discovery Airport a lot... she gets played with a lot. :lol-sign: She watches us, too, and gets excited when we open her tank.

Aren't Uro's a little fussier than say, beardies? I've never had one, but I was always under the impression that they were considered a step up in challange from the real starter reptiles, like beardies and leopards?

Lovely Uro by the way :) I keep thinking of getting one.

Hmmm... we were told the Uros were easier and more 'kid friendly' - as far as not being fragile-skinned and usually being friendly. The major issue we have is keeping the tank temp right - it has to range from 120 in her basking area to around 70 in her cool area, and then 70s at night. We finally figured out the right light and tank size to keep everything balanced out for our first one, and when she died, we kept everything until we found another.

I guess since she was our first, I can't compare her to see what kind is easier! :D

Ever consider aquatic?? :hail:

Look at a couple of mine ... :D

My avatar is one of my freshwater eels eating shrimp

This is scooter (First Pic) - a Senegal Bichir (I also have 3 baby Bichirs in another tank)

The second picture is the face of George (a Rope Fish aka Reed Fish) that is thinner and longer than a Bichir.

..snakes....
..shiver...

I sold a home in florida and live in snowland just so I don't have to see colorful snakes. Gratefully, no self respecting snake would live where I am except by accident. It is imperative for his safety that he would never come on my land where I and my gun could see him. This goes for garden snakes as well. I am absolutely mortified of them and my instant reaction is they must die. I am not crazy about reptiles or rodents either but I will give them some grace so long as they would just be passing thru...but I could never live in the same premises with a snake and ever sleep again. Such is how it is when you revile something and fear it.

When i bought my snake, my mom said to me, "it stays in your bedroom. I don't ever, ever want to see it. If it escapes, it is going to be turned into a boot."

The other day, she was sitting on my bed with both snakes wrapped around her. I said "Mom, what are you doing?"
"...I wanted to make sure they were cold".

Then yesterday she told me that i could move them into the living room if wanted. I declined, but it made me laugh.

LOL milos. I guess I can liken it to when I really didn't like cats. Truth is I was scared of them. Then I got "stuck" with one and it changed my opinion completely.

But with snakes...I would say it borders on phobia for me. They just plain make me shiver.
