PUPPIES PUPPIES PUPPIES!!!!! :D

I LOVE Puppies ~ :)

Yo get to watch them grow and learn and learn to love you and you fall in love with them!!!

Awwwwww! I want a puppy!! :p

Also there are benifets from getting a pu instead of an adult dog....they CAN have less problems to deal with and unlearn them
They can also have MORE problems if their owner is inexperienced. I really think an older (1+) rescue is a great way to go for a first-time dog owner.

That could be RD, but there are always problems that could happen with an adult dog bofore they adopt and an inexperienced owner would not know what to do ;)

I will say that the lack of knowing what Kota looked like or acted like as a puppy really bums me out sometimes. When my sister got him he was an old man, and now we'll never know. (No matter how many times I ask him what he was like as a puppy, he won't tell me! I wonder if he's embarassed...)

I've never adopted/bought a puppy, so I guess I prefer adult dogs. My first dog, who was perfect, was mature (3-5) when we adopted her, and I know just what people mean when they say older dogs are grateful. She was absolutely wonderful, and she knew we were soulmates from the moment she walked out of that kennel. There was no transition, no problem. My next two dogs were both in their terrible adolescence when I got them, and they were wild childs, heedless of concepts of partnership, harmony, tolerance, etc. They both grew up to be wonderful dogs, but that learning curve was something else.

It does kill me that I will never know what any of my girls looked like as babies, though. They must have been utterly adorable, all shaggy and chubby...

Its amazing on how many people want a dog who is already house broke, is done with the chewing and adolensence stage.
I get calls all the time for older dogs.
I prefer a puppy. This way I can raise it and train it the way that fits me and my family.

I prefer getting a puppy, that way I can control what the puppies meet and how the socialization is done as well as all the training and such. Also I can cater how my pup grows up to go hand in hand with what job I wish for the pup to do as an adult.

I got a puppy but I would have certainly considered an adult Collie, so long as it was shown to be very good with kids and cats. But Collies aren't that easy to come by around here for some reason. They are not in demand, which is kind of odd considering it's a wonderful dog and smart and awfully cute besides. I guess after the Lassie craze Collies kind of are one of the more forgotten breeds, at least around here. Labs and Goldens seem to have taken over. So finding a rescue wouldn't be very easy. If my breeder had an adult available I would have gladly adopted him/her.

at the same time, though, you get no guarantees that your pup is going to grow up into a good working-tempered dog, which i admit makes me look even more at adult dogs. the whole what you see is what you get thing.

i think there are definitely benefits both ways.

i do wish i had baby pictures though. i bet luce was cute as hell when she was in that awkward growing stage. what with those crazy bat ears and all.

Oh ya its totally a gamble! But at least if the dog doesn''t become the worker I was hoping it would be, I''ll still have a wonderful pet that has been reared and trained to my own perference. i know what the puppy has been through and I know why it reacts to different things as opposed to playing the guessing game.

I've mostly had puppies, except for taking in a stray. I think both have their charm. I love rasing puppies and molding them to your lifestyle and watching them grow and learn and mature. I also would love to find an adolescent or adult and find one that suits me. My next dog, I think, will be a pound dog or from a shelter and I'm going to look for an adolescent or adult that fits my requirements like being good with cats and other dogs. It may take a little longer to look and find an adult that matches you, but when you do, it's totally worth it. :)

I have always prefered to get a puppy. Although - I always can not wait until they grow up lol

I like puppies better because you can raise them how you WANT a dog to be raised.

Ex. if I had gotten Riot at the age he is now.. he wouldn't be as bonded to me, he wouldn't have the same house mannerisms that are expected of him now. Although I'm sure I could easily teach them to him, some now have become implanted in his mind that he can not do until hes told to do so. He doesnt need a command for them anymore.

hehe plus I LOVE watching the pups grow up hehe
First its the fuzzy adorable cute stage, then the awkward stage, then the gangley ugly stages and then the young adult stage, then the adult stage hehe

Always will love pups, but only because I like to see them grow with me. The boys turned 6 months today, and everday I tell my boyfriend I can't wait until they become adults. Its just such a fulfilling thing for me.

I'm all about the adults! Puppies are fun for an hour or so ;) .

Plus, if you get a puppy, anything that goes wrong with it's training is your fault! I like to be able to pass on the blame - if Meg had been with me since 8 weeks, and had this weird shutting down issue, I'd feel horrible for having screwed her up. Instead, I get to be the hero who is trying to fix it;)

I always wanted purebred puppies from responsible breeders. After such a wonderful, positive experience with Meg, I can't imagine ever getting anything but adult rescues again.

I love molding the perfect dog by socializing a puppy... I think its easier; though puppies are not easy and you need a lot of patience.

I prefer my rescued adults... I know how to bond with them, train them, and 'fix' whatever problems they have because of their puppyhood...
They seem more mature and devoted. I love how puppies are happy-go-lucky, but right now I very much prefer the mature devotion :)

I like adults better, but I think I would be worried the dog has some problems I'm not aware of that would backfire :( But I definitely can't stand the puppy stage. It's very cute, but what a pain...

It depends. When I see a puppy, I of course just melt, but I think it'd be easier to get a young adult. I say young because right now I'd still want to be able to participate in the dog's raising.
But I do have to say that I think if you get a dog as a puppy, there are some benefits to it.

When you are young and energetic and have plenty of time, sure go puppy ! If you're not home , or are ( cough ) elderly , go adult !
