Do you leave the dogs? Take them? If you leave them, where?

I have gone with and without Riley. He stayed at my folks place when I left. I also have friends that would take my dog if my parents went with. I loved it when I took him with though!

We tend to go somewhere at least once a year. The Dobermans always stay with their breeder when we leave. I was fortunate in that my brother doesn't normally come on vacations and wasn't busy in past years, so Dance generally stayed with him. But now he has more of a social life, plus work and school, so last time we went away (January) Zhucca took care of Dance for me. Now I'm trying to decide if I should ask her if she's available again this summer for Dance or if we should bring her along to BC. I like bringing dogs on vacation (different fun things to do with them), but in some ways it's a lot easier to leave them behind.

The first time I left Dance I wasn't worried about anybody's ability to take care of her, but I did worry about how Dance was behaving and if I'd come back and be told "I never want to take care of her again. She was horrible!", haha. Turns out my worries were for nothing. It will be a thousand times easier to leave her next time. The Dobermans I never, ever worry about. I'm so used to leaving them with their breeder and know they're in good hands.

One day I would like to take a dog vacation though. Like a road trip or something with my dog/s and probably another person so I don't get lonely. I think it'd be fun to travel and do and see different things with my dog, and just imagine all the photo opportunities!

Never. Seriously, with Classic's issues someone has to be home with him. We can't trust just anybody for that job mostly because Classic will eat them so it's a tricky situation. Generally he comes along with us.. and yes he came with on our honeymoon last year.

When we used to go to Florida every year we would board the dogs. Our vet does boarding and they are awesome. My vet even brought a playpen from home so that Dixie and Lucy could stay in it together. :) They kept Holly in a large kennel run with potty breaks and playtime in the fenced dog yard.

We have gone with and without Chloe. She stays with a family friend if we leave her.

We haven't gone anywhere since getting Violet. I think we would probably board her at the vet.

I prefer vacations with the dogs - mostly camping or dog-friendly cabins, which is stuff I like to do for vacations anyway... and if you can believe it I'm going to a mushing boot camp this fall. And my husband and I tend to take little separate long weekends throughout the year, so one of us is home with the pets while the other is on a guy's or girl's weekend or whatever.

We do also usually go on one vacation each year that is dog-free. We do varying combinations of house sitters, dogs at the neighbor's, and/or boarding depending on the exact circumstances.

I whole reason I go in vacation is to get away from my dog and her incessant whining :p

She stays with my parents.. We went away when she was younger and she kept escaping from other places and running home, so my grandmother would watch her at home.

The ferrets are easy, either my parents watch them, I drop them off at Allies, or a member of the rescue could watch them.

The only reason I am able to go on vacation is because Megan can watch Frodo. He won't try to eat her (even when she poked him with a needle! :lol-sign:) or her dogs.

Jess watches my zoo, usually. :) Sometimes if it's a day or two I'll just ask the roomies, but otherwise I prefer Jess because she knows my pets almost as well as I do and enjoys spending time with them. The roomies like my pets but taking care of them is very much a chore for them.

I have an awesome petsitter or sometimes my cousin pet sits. Its a bit crazy here with the dogs, and cats, and rats, and chickens, and ducks so I feel very lucky to have people I really trust watching them all.

So far Tucker hasn't come on any vacations, but there has only been one summer (and thus vacation) since we got him. I HATE leaving him, I actually dislike the vacation because he's not there, I just constantly worry about him and am in a bad mood because my parents couldn't just pick a place that allowed him. He is always watched by my uncle and aunt when my parents are away and I'm at school, which is fine short term but he gets the necessities and that's it. Plus I'm always afraid his behavior will start to slide or that uncle will hit him (a few months ago I came home from school to find that Tucker was terrified of my uncle where before he loved him. My guess is uncle did something punishing when Tucker jumped on him and nipped like he does when he's excited to see you). But in the past my aunt and uncle have come on vacations with us and if that happens then I don't know what we'd do with him. I don't think a stranger could watch him without meeting him several time beforehand. I don't know if boarding places allow aggressive dogs, and even if they did would he be worse when we got him back due to being forced to interact with the scary people?

For me, my summer is three straight months I can spend with my dog, I don't like anything taking away from that little time.

I am still on the only vacation I've taken in the last 5 years. I've been away from my dog for 2 months - she's been getting a vacation of sorts, too, staying with my parents.

Generally not, but Thursday I leave for Florida with my family. Dogs are going to the boarding kennel and I have a catsitter coming to the house twice a day. I AM FREAKING OUT OH EM GEE.

The bullies were at the boarding kennel when I went to CanAm with Steve in October, but I've never been apart from Steve overnight. He's supposed to go to doggy daycare while he's there, which is a little dicey, but he can't sit in a kennel for 11 days without going off his rocker, and I don't have anybody who could deal with him. My agility instructor offered to take him if he can't deal with the boarding kennel, but he'd just live in her kennel area (but be run with her dogs twice a day) so at least I have emergency backup.

So far, I take Elsie with me when I vacation. I like hiking and camping and stuff, and so does she, so it works out pretty well. I even took her to WyrdCon last year. She hung out at our booth and was a total doll. We'll see how she does this year.

If/when I go somewhere and don't bring her, she'll stay with my dad.

We've always taken a dog or two (and sometimes a cat) on vacation. Riley will be a beach dog again this year. Mick and Murph stay home and my neighbor keeps an eye on them. She also takes care of the cats and horses (although they will be out on pasture, so she doesn't have to do a lot with them).

We don't go anywhere. The weekend of my sister's wedding we stayed in a hotel, so Juno got boarded at her favorite place evar, and one of my friend's stayed at the house to take care of Lucy (and the cat and rats). Worked well.

Otherwise the only time we ever go out of town is to go to our cabin for the 4th of July, and the dogs get to come with.

My friend Elizabeth has watched Buzz for me in the past, and sometimes my mom. Last time I went out of town, SaraB watched him for me! :)

Bailey has two options currently, and we're working on a third. One is staying with my mom, the other is staying in a kennel-type situation a previous co-worker has set up at her house, and the third is a new co-worker who has no pets but lives in a pet friendly complex and likes Bailey.

When we've done family vacations, it really just depends!
