DH is soooo not a herder person. He (and I both, really) thinks Rider is a little off. He's spazzy and he crotch punches and he cries and he runs towards moving objects and he isn't the perfect housedog. He loves Rider, but he wouldn't have chosen him. Josh loved Lucy as well, but again.. she was quirky and there were things that really bothered him about her as well. Seal, I don't consider her to have an ACD mentality. She's not prey driven at all, she's just stable and content.. he likes her a lot.

Harlow is more DH's type of dog. Good off switch, exercise when you want but doesn't require much more than running around like a loon, a little attitude but not overly so. He likes a good staple "truck dog". DH is very into sporting dogs, especially pointers. He LOVES a nice, working bred GSP and is very much a bully person as well as that is what he grew up with.

I'm hoping that my reputable bred ACD will turn him around a little bit to my herders, as I'm expecting that dog to be quite a bit more stable and sane in the long run.

Rick is a cat person who likes dogs, I'm a dog person who likes cats.

Initially, he had interest in three breeds: beagles, shibas, and cardigans. He had never owned, or lived with, a dog.

So far, he's spent a LOT of time with: labs, lab mixes, an american foxhound, a pit bull, goldens, an american cocker spaniel, an english cocker spaniel, a 150lb gernman shepherd mix, two anatolian shepherd mixes, a bichon, a sheltie, pekes, pugs, a cavalier, chihuahuas, a pug x pit, beagles, a smooth collie, a sheltie x aussie, a GSD, japanese chins, a lab x poodle, jack russell terriers, an anatolian x pit, a chow x lab, a beagle x pug, a pomeranian, whippets, a schnauzer (?) mix... I think I got them all? Hahaha. With the exception of the collie and the sheltie mix, all regular clients' dogs. Those guys belong to my friend, Kit. He's met a lot of other dogs, but for Chazzer's dogs, he's met Hudson the English Shepherd, Muffin the Pem Corgi, and Speckles the BC mix.

He's decided he likes herdy dogs a lot more than he thought. Border collies, Aussies, some Malinois, some Kelpies. He's learned he really, really doesn't like cockers, pekes, or most pugs. He's kind of up for anything at the moment.

The guy I'm currently seeing has a Golden Retriever...

I never thought that would go well, but I actually like him a lot. He isn't super fond of any of my dogs other than Bella... which is no surprise because she acts a lot like a golden. :p He doesn't dislike any of them, he just doesn't really care one way or another.

I tend to date active guys and they tend to have active dogs... that's just kind of how it works out. I haven't dated a guy who does agility yet, haha, but plenty of guys who run with their dogs (dogs of all kinds of breeds really, usually larger mixed breeds) and one guy who was teaching his BC mix to do disc.

One of the last serious boyfriends I had was a guy who grew up with outside farm dogs so the idea of having the dogs live in the house was kind of strange to him... and even more strange was the very real fact that by nature of being inside, the dogs are really part of the family. That said, he loved Auggie. Who wouldn't? And Auggie loved him. He loved the fact that Auggie would always present him with a tennis ball for throwing, it made him feel special (even though Auggie will bring everybody a tennis ball haha. But I didn't point that out to him.)

One guy owned a mini doxie and he really, really wanted me to teach his mini doxie to do agility. I intended to do it... but never got around to it... and we didn't last. But I would have done it haha.

My SO started out as a cat person. He had grown up with a family dog (an aging beagle mix) and really had very little experience with dogs outside of that.

Watson is a bit more dog than he was initially ready for...but they have found their groove now that Watson is an adult and more settled. Also my SO has gone with me several times when I was helping Watson's breeder with puppy socialization when she had her last litter on the ground...and he absolutely loved watching the little basenjis grow.

Menchi he adores...she has him wrapped around her little paws.

He is learning more and more about dogs and how to care for them. He is not much on the training side...but he will go to events with me and likes to see the dogs run when we go lure coursing.

So yes...we seem to mesh more and more when it comes to the dog thing :)

I don't have one yet, but I sure hope that when I do he has similar taste in dogs to me! Unless he's an actual dog person too and takes complete responsibility for his dog, cause I don't want to raise or take most responsibility for a breed/dog that I don't mesh with ever again if I can help it. I know what kinds of dogs I enjoy and really don't care to stray from that. I've lived with enough dogs that, whom I love/d, really did not mesh well with me at all and were/are often more frustrating than fun.

The rest of my family that I live with doesn't have similar taste in dogs to me at all. I like medium sized quick learning, versatile, sporty, do it all dogs who like to be busy (but know when to settle) and they all like dogs who lay around and don't need much other than food and the occasional walk. And one of them likely would not have dogs at all if he didn't live with us.

I love velcro dobes and dogs that want to please me and focus on me.

My husband has a wide range but does not like the velcroyness of a dobe. He loves his herding dogs. He wants a lab to.

I don't think he would have dogs on his own, and probably not as many/the dogs we have. Jack is "his" dog who can't do any thing wrong. Regardless of what I imagine he'd do on his own, he loves the dogs and that's all I care about. He sat for hours last night installing a series of mounted gates for them last night so as a crazy dog lady I'd probably be dumb not to keep him around.

Tyler is very, very much a dog lover and a big suck for dogs. Mitsu before she died was his heart and soul. Those two where made for each other. He misses his girl a lot.

We share a lot of the work with the dogs. I do more of the training, but the other responsibilities is shared. We both share the same desire for the same breeds, other than he wants another pit bull.

Luckly for us Teagan does not pick sides. She has a very special bond with both of us. She is both our heart dog and so far Panzer has not picked sides, which I like. It makes things fair and I think it helps that we both pay equal attention to the dogs.

Haha. No. Not remotely. Which is funny, because we have similar tastes in just about everything else.

He grew up with terriers and, thus, loves terriers. Funny thing is, the things he dislikes about his family dogs are mostly aspects of their inherent terrierness. So basically, he likes the way they look. He also likes huskies and German shepherds. Again, based on look.

Not that I blame him! I like many breeds based on look. But I choose my favorite breeds based on look AND temperament (suitability to me). He's not too dog breed savvy, but he's more particular than I am in what he finds aesthetically pleasing. Thus, he's not a fan of... most of the breeds that would work well for our lifestyle. This is a guy who is the ideal greyhound owner, but he wants a Jack Russell Terrier.

It's a little bit frustrating because I'm such a dog person, haha. I'm sure we'll come to a medium somewhere.

I am SO jealous of the bf in a bitesuit... that's my dream! I doubt that I could turn him into a "dog person", but he absolutely adores Fozz. (who doesn't?) He's always in his fb pro pics. Lol!

My boyfriend had a Pug before he was with me, but Fozzie has convinced him that Corgis are the besssst! :D He also wants a Husky someday due to Fozz.

Living with Gonzo, and dogsitting friends Border Collies, has opened his eyes to Border Collies. He's nice to Gonzo, but he thinks BCs are insane and never wants another! Neither do I so that's fine.

When it comes to anything dog-related, he shuts up and listens to me!!! Which I looove. My ex was very much your average dog owner who knows very little about dogs, but thinks they know everything, based on urban myths, assumptions and tv shows (YES CESAR MILLAN, ew)... needless to say, it was annoying.

DH didn't have a breed or type preference in dogs when I met him. He now is totally sold on herding breeds after living with our crazies. :)
