I wouldnt take it personally if some one on here hates a breed. there are 100's of breeds. And many I find horribly ugly, not my style, just plain not me. Although I dont hate any breed. but another will find way to cute. Im sure many hate poodles (well I know many do) but I adore them, love the breed, the look, the disposition. but their not for every one. heck I even like the fro fro hair cuts lol
Nol dont take it personally at all.
Just curious as to the reason as I have heard a few and just from curiosity to see if was a personal experience or just preference.

Not everyone will like very breed, I just dont HATE any of them.

Bet GSDs are your mom's favorites now :rofl1:

Face it, Poodles and Bichons are just not man-bait
lol oh ya, i forgot, she also loves any dog that will get her a man! lol

Fransheska....why does he HATE Min Pins? That breaks my heart, they are my love dogs. Though they do get a bad rap for having a bad attitude due to poor owners who do not train them properly and socialize them.
he doesn't like them for the general reasons people don't. he doesn't like the way they look, or the yappyness many of them have. Im sure yours are sweet but ive never met a nice min pin in my area so i doubt he has either

My family likes small lap dogs in general. Calm and low energy. I like high energy, bigger dogs. However I like my energetic small dogs as well (Papillons and Pomeranians). I don't think there's any real disagreement.. except my mother doesn't care to have a dog since she doesn't like the responsibility of one. My sister is incapable of taking care of one, but she likes them.

It's a real shame about Min Pins because all I've met are either fear aggressive or just plain fearful.

My boyfriend likes labs and goldens and generally dogs with floppy ears. He had a bassett hound when he was young.

I like dogs with double coats and prick ears and tails curled over their backs.

Abby pretty much is just his type looks wise:) I have to admit, her dumbo ears have grown on me. :)

I understand about not liking dogs with a doggy smell. My mom had a friend with labs and her whole house smelled...doggy.

My mom had the keeshonden, and her house never smelled like anything, though we did have the "angel hairs" floating around.

The northern breeds don't generally carry that doggy smell. I think hounds really have a distinct smell.

Abby smells houndy to me, but the BF can't smell her. When I pet her, I can smell her on my hand after wards. With my mom's dogs, it wasn't nearly as noticeable.

well, yes and no, DH says he doesn't want dogs, funny, we have 4 and are babysitting one for our daughter....who he says isn't going to be getting her back if she doesn't hurry and come get her. LOL. He wants an Irish Setter, but right now has his PomChiorkie, and I have my Boxer (which is my favorite breed). I really just like dogs, I'm not too picky.... we also like Cocker Spaniels,....Son doesn't care, daughters both like Boxers, like mom... :)
I'd have a yard full...but right now I have DH....LOL

My family is very split, really.

My mom prefers Mini Aussies. They are her 'breed' of choice. I assume she'll have at least one, if not two until the day she dies.

My sister prefers Dobies, German Shepherds (only after falling in love with Callie), Great Danes, and a bunch of giant breeds and big dogs who you mostly just love and play with, and maybe do some obedience.

Me, I like herding breeds. Any, really. I prefer the size of a Border Collie or a little bigger, but I'd take a nice Sheltie, too. I like agile dogs who I could do a whole section of dog sports with, if I wanted to.

My dad doesn't really care for dogs (which sucks for him, living in a house with 7). However, he'd prefer an old 'farm dog' (mutt), or a pure border collie from a herding breeder. And he only likes them because I pointed out all the good I could do with one.

We, however, agree on what will come into the family. Sure, when they're big, goofy, hairy, crazy decissions (*cough BELLA cough*), mom and dad aren't too pleased, but we all have to agree on something before it comes into the house - even if it's not our breed of choice. If we know the other in the family really wants one of that breed, or if we know the dog really needs us, we all put our breed choices aside and agree.

My mom thinks I'm crazy for getting a "big dog," lol. She basically classifies dogs into two categories- dogs she'll own (toy poodles) and everything else. When I told her about Rory, the first thing she said was: "Say goodbye to your clean floors." Then she told me I was crazy for having 4.

well, i like dogs...
i like all dogs and tend to pick my breed beased on my situation in life as well as what im looking for...
however right now my choice is the crestie (and i dont see myself ever being without a crestie at this point)

my bf doesnt realy like any dogs, he "puts up" with mine (even though i think he secretly loves them :p)

the roomates "only like big dogs" however the "only like big dogs" means they only like GSD's and huskies (wolf looking dogs), they dont care that in order to be owned by a dog of either of those breeds they would have to change pretty much EVERYTHING about the way they live (they are inactive people who dont like do actually walk, they base their desire for either breed on the fact that her mother has a gsd mix (they swear its wolf however id be suprised lol) whos now 14 and all she does is laze around...according to them all gsds and huskies are great quiet low energy dogs who just need a nice sized back yard...
i just need to introduce them to a few NORMAL huskies lol)

my parents...well my parents are generally medium sized dogs, infact, both adore cockers, dad likes boxers and gsd's too but understands hes not go the time for either breed right now, and theyve fallen inlove with the chis thanks to me.

Almost ev eryone i know thinks im nuts for wanting cresties and danes though lol...

I'm glad my husband loves poodles, they are rare..lol He'd love a Standard Poodle someday, we'll see. He has a "I love this dog, as long as I don't have to take care of him/her" attitude, which is fine with me. He also loves another breed that I'm fond of, Greyhounds.

well, the only one in the house i have to agree with is Luce, and she doesn't care as long as it's a boy and he grovels appropriately at her feet.

my mom was not that happy when i brought home my first pit bull. but it wasn't her house, and therefore not her rules, and she got over it. now she loves my dogs, has completely changed her mind about the breed, and is a somewhat vocal defender of them :)

she finds the border collie fascinating and is glad she doesn't have to live with him.

if she had her way, i'd have leonbergers. (she likes having granddogs, but has no interest in having her own dog.)

i forgot to add on my family, which I do still live with lol.

My mom and grandma are hardcore poodle lovers. I got it from them. My grandma has had a poodle since the 60's, until 2003 when we had to put our last poodle to sleep. They adore the breed and would love to have another. But I have personaly put my foot down on another dog coming in. as they lvoe dos, just dont see the need in training, walking, good food or vet care like I and 98% of people on this forum think.

Collies again they love. but again are NOT the people to own one.

My mom is the type to give any breed a chance (fom chis, to poodles to pittis, rotties, dobes to big old great danes, any breed any size doesnt matter to her) and just plain likes dogs, isnt crazy about them like me, but loves the idea of them. but enjoys them enough to go to dog events, Blazes agility classes, and babysit, and actually take him to the dog park if Im out of town.

My grandma likes small dogs mostly. but again is no breedist and apprecites visits from any breed of dog in to the house. it was funny when she met the neighboors dobe. He RAN up to her as she was drinking her coffe sitting on the step and procedded to smother her in kisses. She laughed and said "yes what a big mean doberman you are" it was funny.

My grandpa (RIP) loved anything and everything about dogs, cats, abbits, horses, pigs, you name a animal and he would love it, he just plain adored any type of animal. and would cry when he seen ont he news when a animal was abused. he was a awsome man. and i can imagine him now covered in many animals up there in the sky.

My oldest brother (19) is LAZY LAZY LAZY, so no wonder he picked a breed that can easily fit his lfiestyle, a pug. he loves the breed. he knows they need some excersise to be happy, but they are not like Blaze needing tons of excersise, so he loves them.

My youngest brother (17) is the typical HS kid. loves the big mean looking breeds as he calls them, rotties espeacially. since his best friends family are BYB's of them and wants one from them, I have explained to them what they do is wrong. he understands it. But they push it upon him to get one from them, they make me sick. (yes becuase breeding a 6 month old female with a 1 year old male is smart right? god it makes me sick sick sick)

well let see Tyler did not completly agree with my choice of breed, which was a Westie, but now he is so glad that is what I choose. He loves Teagan to death she is his little baby its rather pathetic ha ha He was the one paying for the dog so he put restrictions on the breed like I was not allowed to get a toy breed or anything too big because we do alot of traveling and a big dog just takes up too much space, but I was ok with that because I wanted a Westie and nothing else.

Now my family all love the Terriers. There has always been a westie in the family while I was growing up and about three years ago when the Family Westie Maddie died my parents decided to switch it up a little and get a Scottish Terrier, Who has so much personality its annoying ha ha.

My dad would love to own another big dog like a bouv or a Great Dane, Something really big, Which will probley happen sometime soon because are Bouv is getting really old and we live on a farm so we will need another big dog. He also loves the Terriers!

My mom on the other hand, does not want to get another big dog, but she will probley loose that argument. She Love the Terriers her Heart dog is Casey the Family Scottish Terrier which is her little baby. She calls him our little brother and me his sister is annoying!

Now to big dogs which me and Tyler will probley eventually get.
well he wants like a GSD, or a Lab. And I say NO WAY! to that. See I am a person who hates to deal with Shedding and I like the longer fur, So the dog that we will end up getting is probely a Bouvier De Flanders, If we have enough room for her because they are so big and are so demanding but I love them. I had a Bouv growing up and she was just amazing!

At the Big Family farm that my grampa and grandma lived always had collies, I love them but they are so High energy and always were going. going and more going even after having a job to do!

I think I'm very lucky that my boyfriend doesn't have strong opinions on dogs in general. I have yet to find a breed that he doesn't like or a breed that I couldn't convince him to like. He does have a certain fondness for Pugs though, and I'm trying to get him over that...because my dream dog has lots of energy and plays ball (ie not a Pug). But I already have Jackie Loo and in a few years when we've established our careers he'll most likely have first pick of the next dog. I think I almost have him convinced to get a shelter mutt - because all he wants is a dog of his own to raise from a pup.

My Mom grew up with many different breeds. From Saint Bernards to Poodles. I think she likes any dog that is well behaved and isn't too high maintenance (she's not really one to put a lot of effort in the dogs). Our first dog was a Rottie and we were blessed that she was a wonderful dog despite no socialization and minimal training. When I wanted a Jack Russell 7 years ago she went and bought me two. We were a little overwhelmed at first, I was young and she didn't know what we got ourselves into, but now she wouldn't change them for the world. When I wanted to get a fifth dog for agility my Dad actually picked out Jack. He grew up with a Black Lab and loved that dog more than anything. So in order for him to agree to have another dog come in the house it had to resemble a black lab. Too bad we got a Beagle in a Lab suit. :p

I actually asked my mom what her "taste" was and she said that she likes her dogs to be like ballerinas. they must be thin, elegant, graceful etc...

so she doesn't like big ears, muzzles, that kind of thing...

she doesn't like dogs that smell like dogs lol too

she LOVES shiba inus, they are her favorites and shes actually getting one when she moves

My mom tends to like smaller dogs. It took her a couple years to stop referring to my dogs as "HUGE" (they are 55 and 65 lbs--lol). She was not happy about sally at first, but Sally has really grown on her and now she will tell people that her grand-dog is a pit bull and is friendly.

I like a variety of dogs, but i have a thing for crazy, happy, bending-in-half-wagging labs. If time, money, and DH allowed for it, I'd have at least one or two more labs in addition to my pair.

DH prefers more what he calls "mellow" dogs. From what I can tell he means more reserved and possessing an off switch (Jack is neither of these things). He says that Sally's behavior and energy level are perfect for him, but i would not consider her mellow. She just is happy doing what you are doing-she'll go out and do stuff as long as you want and she'll lay there and chill with you as long as you want.

Mum loves mastiffy types. She's mad on french Mastiff's but probably won't get one because she doesn't like drool.
She also likes little cute fluffy dogs, as does my sister.

They don't really get my love of high energy need-a-job type dogs. I also have fallen for mastiff types and have a few breeds i want one day however I just can't get little dogs. Maltese/Yorkie/Shih Tzu types just don't appeal to me one bit.

Nope, not really. My mom and I definitely agree on Dobermans, but nobody understands why I love Tollers as much as I do, haha. They don't have anything against them, but my mom prefers working breeds over anything and if my dad had it his way (which he doesn't as he does absolutely nothing for the dogs), we wouldn't have anything but Rottweilers. My brother couldn't care less about whether we had dogs or not, let alone what kind.

he doesn't like them for the general reasons people don't. he doesn't like the way they look, or the yappyness many of them have. Im sure yours are sweet but ive never met a nice min pin in my area so i doubt he has either

Yep, yappy I cannot deny, lol
Mostly when they are outside and 'on guard' or so they think. In the house they are cuddle bugs. At shows they are not yappy at all, and try to climb in anyones lap they can to get a scratch and kiss.

Many get the toy breeds and lack discipline because of thier size and tend to allow thme to get away with alot of things, and it ends in a moody, yappy, nippy dog who rules the roost, lol Common issue in Chi's too.

Hope you get to experience a sweet min pin one day, just so you can say they exist, lol.

My son lives at home still and has beagles...what a combo there seeing they are very vocal...and escape artists to boot.
