If I could have my way, I would have an entire tribe of huge, slobbery, smooshy, clumsy, snuggly, hairy beast dogs. The breeds I like are BIG and act little. I want a face-licking 100 pound lap dog.

Zach would prefer something along the lines of...a bichon or something, that would just kind of sit next to you or maybe on your lap and not be in your face at all. He's not pushed on dogs over 30 lbs or so and likes them calm and a bit reserved.

Did you and your SO agree on type or breed? If not, did you win, lose, compromise, or each get your way??

The boyfriend and I pretty much agree on the breeds we want. He wanted a rottie, I prefer the look of a dobe, so we did in a sense compromise on that, although we own neither. but one day will get a dobie as we both love the breed. I love GSD's and he likes the idea of them, s again we click with that. Collies he sure loves after meeting Blaze, he doesnt are for all the hair, but relizes I do all the work in that department any way so its not a big deal lol.

Only dog I LOVE and WILL have again soon I hope is a toy poodle. he is being a "manly man" and thinking poodles are girly fro fro dogs. fine by me, I know he will fall in love with one when I get it, but he would never in a million years chose one. Maybe when he falls for the breed like I have he will choose one lol.

He says the only small dog we will have is a lhaso apso, becuase he has grown up with them. no thanks, i will not budge i dont want one. Just not a breed I really care for. Unless it was a rescue that fell in to our laps, then i couldnt turn it away lol

BF wasn't a dog person at all. He begrudgingly let me get a dog as long as I was the one who took care of it. He thought bostons were ugly but it was my dog so it didn't matter. Fast forward three years and he absolutely ADORES Joey. He especially loves it when Joey snuggles up with him which is why I have a ton of pictures with them together, lol! I think he prefers smaller dogs though. I don't really mind either way.

My mom? no way. she only likes poodles, bichon frises, and boxers. she also likes foxy looking dogs (shiba inu). she doesn't like any dog that "smells like a dog".. w/e that means lol

My boyfriend HATES HATES min pins. as far as that we are very different, I don't LIKE min pins.. i would NEVER EVER own one or buy one or have one. but I don't hate them

but as far as big dogs, we both pretty much agree on which dogs we like :) we both totally want a golden retriever one day. and he really likes beagles, he encourages his to AROOOOOO all the time lol

My parents and I are opposites. I want multiple dogs, they are more then fine with one. If she wasn't rescued and she didn't need a home, we never would have had a dog.

My dad says that if he ever gets another dog, it will be a little lap dog. I want larger dogs, around Rosey's size or larger (except a pug -- I've always wanted one).

I always seem to be the opposite of everybody else lol

My folks luckily like big dogs . They had a GS/1/2 wolf dog when I was born and then got the bone-head Irish Setter ! When Tony died I looked into hunting dogs for my Dad . Not an easy job for a 13 yr. old with no computer ! Thus Point . When married To wanted a more " matcho " dog .....when our Boxer was killed , he finally agreed I could have a Golden again . He ended up loving the breed .

We're not too far. I don't have an SO so for the other family.....

We all ADORE papillons. I think that's a given. :p

I don't like little dogs generally. I never ever ever ever would've gotten a toy dog on my own. My mom was the only reason papillons entered my life and I'm soooooo glad they did. They're the best dogs I've ever owned. She loved toy breeds, GSDs, and slobbery basset hounds most. My mom had about one of every breed in her lifetime literally from BCs to chihuahuas to bulldogs to Saint Bernards. She just loved dogs.

My dad loves sporting dogs. I don't care much for sporting dogs beyond a few of the spaniels which I'm finding are really growing on me lately. Dad's only dog he's had as an adult was a lab. (which is sad now that I realize we had 13 dogs growing up and only one was his) He wants a GSP next. His favorite dog of his lifetime though is Rose who is a fou fou do to the max. The main part where my dad and I differ is he dislikes border collies a lot. He owned many BCs but says no more for him. Same with shelties. Loved ours (he truly did) but never wants another.

Emily loves German shepherds and spitz. I know she wants a GSD over anything else. But she loves huskies (not just because of the looks either), kai ken, shibas, BCs, etc. She especially loves the oriental spitz. Oh and papillons. :p

Josie loves anything that has fur (or not in the case of cresties). She seems to have a real fondness for paps, pitties, GSDs, shelties, and BCs but I think that's just because those are the kinds of dogs she's been around most. She's easy to please dog-wise though.

As for me, I really like herders. BCs, Aussies, Shelties, Collies... the shelties were all three my choice breed-wise. I also love GSDs and papillons (duh).

My family and I are so, so far apart.

We all like boxers and that's where it stops.

I like hairy dogs like BCs, Aussies, Newfoundlands... and long hair is a big no no in my mom's eyes. She can't understand WHY someone would actually allow all that hair in their home. I love the convenience of short-haired dogs but for some reason I'm always drawn to those with long-hair (it doesn't have to be obnoxiously long... even medium-length.)

And uh, my dad just doesn't really like dogs at all lol, so we're definitely not alike there. :p

My parents: Could care less about breed, but tend to gravitate to dogs around the 50lb mark who are fairly low maintenance in terms of exercise and grooming. Our first dog was a LabX (with cattle dog, but my parents didn't know that at the time, they knew they wanted a lab mix) who was around 55-60lbs and was quite mellow after she turned 3yo. Their current dog is a rottie/hound mix that I fostered one summer. He's 45-50lbs and a big goof ball.

My DH: LOVES boxers, but in general just likes large, square, couch potato dogs. He really likes short noses and floppy ears.

Me: LOVE herding breeds. Pick dogs specifically for agility performance, drive to work, and joy of play and interaction. Specifically attracted to BCs and Cattle Dogs.

Our Dogs: 2 ACD mixes and a Corgi/JRT/? mix - two were picked before he and I were married (one while I was still living at home), and our second ACD mix was a failed foster from work about a year after we were married. :) I get to pick the dogs because DH doesn't want the responsibility of a dog yet, so I'm the main caregiver.

My mom and I have similarities as well as big differences. She likes CKCS and goldens a lot, and doesn't like the look of dogs with pricked ears unless they're ridiculously big. She doesn't appreciate elegant beauty much, she just likes squishy, sweet looking soft dogs. For example, she loves the look of a Bernese Mountain Dog because they're huggable and sometimes dopey-looking, but she's afraid of dobermans because she thinks they look too "severe" and "scary," particularly if their ears are cropped.
She prefers mixed breeds over purebreds thinking that show dog owners are snobby about their dogs' perfection.
She likes low energy, low maintanence dogs. I like BCs. 'Nuff said. :D

John and I agree pretty well. We both like medium sized mixes 40-60 lbs, I've always been more partial to mixes I think because that's what I've always had. Some specific breeds I like are GSDS, Aussies, BCs, GSPs and Dals.

Fransheska....why does he HATE Min Pins? That breaks my heart, they are my love dogs. Though they do get a bad rap for having a bad attitude due to poor owners who do not train them properly and socialize them.

Wish he could meet mine, that may change his mind about the breed and he would tolerate them at least and not HATE, lol.
My vet, our ER vet, both said the meanest dog they ever saw was a Min Pin....they met ours and are in love! Said their temperament and sweetness has totally change their idea about them.

Our family is pretty well in agrreance with dogs...we love them all!! lol
We do rescue and have forever taken in all kinds of breeds and mixes and have found something wonderful about every one of them.

My main love are Min Pins and Dobes.
Hubby loves my dogs, but prefers Pugs, English Bulldogs, Clumber Spaniels and recently Viszla's.

He would own one of everything if we had the space.

NO never in a million years would my family agree on a breed of dog.
My mum loves the big slobbery hairy dogs. My sister likes pretty dogs, her words not mine. My dad likes gun dogs and Rhodegien Ridgebacks. I like medium-big athletic dogs eg border collies and GSDs.
My mum now has a rescued Newfoundland. My sister persuaded my parents
to get her a Jack Russel last year and Scamp is now my little buddy because apart from petting the dogs every now and then she has nothing to do with them. She is jealous:madgo: that Scamp preferes me and wants to do agility but as he runs away from her and comes to me every time she takes him out that should be fun to watch:popcorn:. Plus I do all the training and since she won't let me do agility with him I see no point in traing him basic commands for agility:p I iz evil;) . I have a BC/GSDx and am getting a GSD in the very near future ie few months:D. I have a springer spaniel as well but my dad and him adore one another so even though it is my name on his registration papers he is my dad's dog through and through.

Sorry about all the spelling errors.

I wouldnt take it personally if some one on here hates a breed. there are 100's of breeds. And many I find horribly ugly, not my style, just plain not me. Although I dont hate any breed. but another will find way to cute. Im sure many hate poodles (well I know many do) but I adore them, love the breed, the look, the disposition. but their not for every one. heck I even like the fro fro hair cuts lol

Ian and I both have really similar taste in dogs... he loves chihuahuas, too, and we've wanted a BC for years.

My parents, on the otherhand, have completely different taste. I think the only breed my mom will ever own are toy poodles. We grew up with a dalmatian and she really doesn't like big dogs at all. And honestly, I'm not sure of which breeds my dad prefers... I know that he only likes having one dog at a time, which will probably always be a toy poodle. lol.

Nope.

My husband just accepts the fact that my love of APBTs and my APBTs came along before he did.

My in-laws think I'm delusional and one day one of my dogs will eat me or my children.

My parents just laugh and say, "Well...that's Staci." :D

My Mom wanted either a Westie (no good in a house full of rodents though) or some other small, fluffy lap dog. But we yet again got a big mutt.

My parents like most breeds except bully breeds, dobies, rotties, etc. You know the "evil, child-killing" dogs. My Dad doesn't like small dogs though.
The smallest dog we ever had hit the 50lb mark. I don't like small dogs very much but I don't medium sized dogs. For me big, slobbery, friendly mutts are the way to go.
