Oh! I guess I have one of those!

At best guess, Cannelle's a Maltese/Yorkshire Terrier X. The rescue was told that she was originally purchased as a Maltese/Chihuahua X (Maltihuahua? Haha, say that five times fast!), but most people don't see any Chihuahua in her.
Did you have a trainer come to your home recently....if so, how are they doing?:D

Everyone posting pictures here, is your dog actually a "designer dog"? Just because it's a mixed breed/mutt doesn't mean it's a designer dog.

Anyway.. all your dogs are lovely. Sophie's fur is so white!!

We kind of changed the title of the thread to MIX BREEDS, not just designers.

I wanted to tell everyone that posted pictures that your dogs are beautiful!

I don't ever remember not sharing my life with dogs. We always shared our home with them when I was a kid and as an adult I have always shared my home with dogs. I have shared my life with purebred and mixed breed dogs.

Right now I share my house with one Lasa Apso, one lab/border collie mix and one lab/australian sheppard mix.

I posted my late dogs' picture on the thread in somewhat of a sarcastic way.
Because all the poo's are called "designer" and the others are called mutts.
Not that it matters to me because there really is no difference in quality.
And I don't recognize "designer" breeds as anything better than a mixed dog, or a mixed dog as anything better than a purebred.

It just really gets me irritated when a person buys a poo/x for hundreds of dollars and they think it ups their social status. (I am not directing that at anyone here)!!

Well I better stop now, I don't think I can really put forth in words what I mean. :)

Personally, I dislike the term Designer Dog more than Mutt or Mixed breed. Also, a Puggle is considered a "Designer" breed and is not a poodle mix. As for quality, a mutt is as "valuable" as any pure bred dog..to me and many others I'm sure.

Of course Tucker is a designer dog!
He is a Golden Border Shepherd! :D
But I honestly don't see a difference. They are all mutts.
And we love them for it :).

just because a puggle isn't a poodle mix doesn't mean it's a designer dog either. "designer dog" is a fancy way to say "mutt" or "mixed breed". it's also an easier way for those out there to make a quick buck by sucking in people that actually believe these dogs are "designers" or a "new breed". if you want to say a mutt is a designer dog...fine. just don't charge an arm and a leg for one when there are "designer dogs" in the pound, humane society and being bred by byb's all the time that all need homes. all they are is mixed breeds. i've had a jack russel/chihuahua mix, a rott/hound mix, and something that looked like a bull mastiff but smaller. none of them are designer dogs just because they might have had purebred parents....they were loveable mutts...or mixed breeds. you don't have to give a mutt a fancy term to make it sound better. they're fine the way they are....as heinz 57's or double/triple (or more) combos. love your dog for the way he/she is, not what's in him/her.

Of course she is...she has the cute breed name, so obviously she's a "designer" dog. ;) :D

I like Grammy's definintion of designer dog "Designed to make money". Otherwise we have this:

Just because it's a mixed breed/mutt doesn't mean it's a designer dog.

All "designer dogs" are mixed breeds/muts, but not all mixed breed/mutts are "designer dogs".

And I agree with Dr2little who said "a mutt is as "valuable" as any pure bred dog". ...Maybe not valuable to the dog breeds itself, but their life is very valuable in my eyes.

You are putting worth in the term "designer dogs". There should be no worth in that term.
I only use that term with a bit of sarcasim. ;)

I'm not meaning to put any worth into the term, but there is worth in every dog's life. The thing is, some people take that term literally.. which is very sad as of course there's a lack of 'design' thoughts put in to breeding two dogs for a quick profit. Anyway, I don't want to drift away anymore from the original purpose of this thread.

a mutt/mix IS a designer dog and a designer dog IS a mutt/mix...they are one and the same. there isn't any thought needed for this. just because you call your dog a "puggle" or "goldendoodle" doesn't make it any more, or less, special than the mix/mutt down the street. they are all the same...that's it. anything other than a purebreed is a mix/mutt. you can't make a tomato into a potato...or, to paraphrase shakespeares romeo and juliet..."What's in a name? That which we call a mutt by any other name would be as sweet."
a name does not change a dog. it just makes the owner feel more "special" to have something "different"

I prefer to call mutts "custom blended". It seems to me that "designer dogs" are generally advertised as a mix of two purebreds, and a "mutt" (AKA custom blended) could be just about anything, never able to duplicate the same animal twice! :D See, we can come up with terminology to make the humane society guys and gals more appealing too!

My friend Stu had a "custom blended" dog from the shelter. She was greyhound/shepherd/some kind of northern breed like husky? type of dog. Very awesome, extremely intelligent with a heart the size of a slab of beef. Definitely one of a kind! :D

a mutt is a mutt no matter what you call it or how many breeds may be involved in producing it.

they are all loveable and deserve the best.

they do not deserve to be bred over and over again to creat so called designer mutts for someone elses profit.
