Here is my mixed breed dog, Tucker.
He is a Australian Shepherd/Border Collie/Golden Retriever mix.
I don't think ANYONE is looking down on dog breeds, more that people are upset that designer breeds are such a big fad. Why don't we call this thread "MIXED Breed Pictures'? That way we wont be promoting it :).

Tucker is sooo cute! =)

The truth is, and I'm just speaking for myself, all of your mixed breeds are beautiful! However, even if their parents WERE tested and they didn't sell for ridiculous prices, intentionally breeding mixed breeds is unneccessary and selfish if you look around. With millions of mixed breeds & purebreds dying in shelters, how could some one with a conscience breed dogs for their own gain/pleasure? Since the parents cannot be shown or proven as quality specimens, that's what it is. Even if those are my feelings about "designer" dogs, I would not chastise anyone for having a Labradoodle or a Puggle, or even for buying a Shepherd/Chow mix from a breeder. However, I would HOPE that they'd educate themselves and turn to rescue for their next "designer" dog.

Here's my "designer" puppy... from rescue! Corgihuskerussell? hehe.

While I do agree with you on several points, my other dogs are all purebreds and 3 of the 4 are rescues from "breeder" neglect. I hate the designer breed fad as well. I spent very little on my Labradoodle ($500.00) and did not purchase her from someone here in my country who just began breeding them to meet demand. I had researched the breeding of labradoodles in Australia (done for over 30 years there) and chose to go with a very small but long time breeder in Australia because I did not want to support this "Designer" trend here in Canada. Just like someone who seeks out a Lab because they fall in love with that particular breed (which originated from a mixed breeding), I had followed the Australian breeding for several years before taking the plunge. When I did this, my Vet had never seen one before, sadly this is not the case anymore. Like every breed that becomes popular, they too will suffer. I will in the future, as I always have in the past, continue to adopt rescues but will not appologize for the way that I adopted my "daughter" Sophie.
I really do wish that people would not use this thread to continue to hammer the point that I'm sure everyone already knows, I don't think that was the intention when this thread was started. If I had it my way, all the shelters/rescues would be empty before anymore pups were born:(

Your puppy is absolutely beautiful!!

I was curious if you actually looked down on certain kinds of dogs?
I think I already answered that question. Read my last post.

I've got two mutts myself - rescues - and they are awesome dogs. Not only are they adorable, but they're smart, funny, goofy, sweet, and just in general, PERFECT. And one of the reasons thinking about them makes me all warm inside is because I know that I saved them, and that if it hadn't been for me, they might not be living good lives right now...or worse, they'd be dead.

My purebred labrador is also a rescue. She has a very bad past (as do my mutts). She is the best dog ever, and in my mind, the best representation of the labrador retriever. She is an absolute sweetheart, with not one mean bone in her body, she's so smart, she is gorgeous, she is beautiful, she is an angel, she is of medium size, she's got the otter tail and the big floppy lab ears (so you have to clean 'em often). And I know one of the reasons she is the sweetheart angel that she is is BECAUSE SHE IS A RESCUE and she is grateful that instead of dying a painful death, she found a family that loves her to death and would do anything for her.

I love all of my dogs equally - they are my babies and I love them sooo much.

dr2little... I DO see a difference in the Australian Labradoodles ... they have been bred within themselves for many years. They are much more uniform that the ones here. I checks the paper today... There were 3 golden litters ..$300 to $350. 3 Goldendoodles . 1) $500 -$800 2) $600 -$700 3) 550. 17 Lab litters..ranging from $200 to $400 . Labradoodles : 1) $450-500 2) 500-600 3) 500 4) 600-700 . These I call " designer" dogs ...designed for $$$$. I consider designer breeds , bred only for money. Same breeds that happen to mate loveable mutts.

Exactly what I was thinking.

In my newspaper there is someone who 'specializes' in 'Designer Dogs'.

Makes me want to puke.

I was taken by that number too .... guess that's why you can always find a full bred Lab at the HSs. They're #1 .... so breed breed breed !

Why can't byb's like that be shut down? isn't there some sort of law that says, if you are irresponsibly breeding (pure or mixes) that you can be fined or a year in jail or something?

I wouldn't go as far as an entire year in jail for breeding dogs irresponsibly or not. Some human abusers don't even get that long.

Where I live, about 80% of the purebred dogs are labs. In my obedience class right now there are 21 dogs, 18 of those dogs are labs, and that is just one class. They are mostly BYB pups, only one is of good bloodlines (she is such a sweetheart!), from what I know. We have a major lab problem here, but there are absolutely no golden breeders (good or bad) around here either!

people may be higher on the food chain, but dogs (and other animals) feel pain as much as we do...they just don't get as much attention paid to them when someone hurts them. if a person gets hurt or killed you may be put in jail for upwards of 5 years...if a dog/other animal gets hurt or killed you're lucky if the offender gets anything other than a fine.
i think there should be a database for animal abusers just like there is one for child abusers/murderers. this way you know that the one's that are caught and convicted or even put on trial...so you don't sell or give them a dog (HS, shelter or bred dog) ever again. it may mean less homes available but at least the quality of homes (that we know of) will be better for the available homeless dogs. they won't necessarily be going from the frying pan into the fire ya know?

Whoops forgot about the Designer Dogs part

Mollie is my "designer dog". She is a pomapoo, Pomeranian/Poodle. She thinks that she is royalty and should be treated as such, lol. (If you've read any of my other posts about Mollie you can skip this and head to the pictures )

Mollie is a pet store puppy, she is 6 years old, has really bad hips, teeth, is getting cataracts and has behavioral issues. I would post her whole story, but it's late and I'm tired, lol. So for now you will have to deal with just pics...

Oh! I guess I have one of those!

At best guess, Cannelle's a Maltese/Yorkshire Terrier X. The rescue was told that she was originally purchased as a Maltese/Chihuahua X (Maltihuahua? Haha, say that five times fast!), but most people don't see any Chihuahua in her.

I absolutely love her ears, especially in this picture!
