I was curious to see what a Lab would look like with cropped ears so I electronically cropped Duke. Looks like a different dog doesn't he.

I would reconsider....I would never do that to a dog. When I bought Sal his ears were cropped already, he had a lot of pain and discomfort from it. It is a lot for a dog to go through for a "look".

While I can understand what you are saying Amstaffer.. I had Demi's ear's done and would definitely do it again. The only discomfort that she ever displayed was recovering from the anesthesia, the same day of surgery.
She was back to being the same puppy the day after.

I think that it is just personal choice. However, I also believe that it needs to be DONE RIGHT, by a vet who has experience with the particular breed. My vet did it with a lazer, so recovery time was very minimal.

Why though? its just unnessesary and what does the dog gain from it? an op and some discomfort afterwards, just becase PEOPLE prefare the look of their ears.
totally barbaric IMO

Here we go again :)

I personally think that crops look like the dogs ears have been hacked off.

Good vet or not. It still looks like someone has taken a rusty knife and sliced off flesh because of the way the hair grows around the scarring and wound area.

:)

I can't wait till I have kids. I like the small footed look. I think I will bandage up their feet, like they used to do in china all those years ago.

Might be painful and cause discomfort, but it's only short term, and my little beautiful baby will get over it eventually and just THINK of the benefits!! How cute they will look :D

Yeah - there would be UPROAR wouldn't there? Or, is it my choice to deform my child? My dog?

Sorry folks, but it's the harsh reality, and I think most people think they deliver their dog to the door, a fairy comes down, waves a wand and the ears are sorted.

Nope.

It is a major operation.

I couldn't agree more. It's illegal in some countries for good reason.:(

Edited to add...Thanks a lot, Dizzy. You've ruined my breakfast.
I read the link...still don't see the point??? What if the dogs start to go for a leg next, just ridiculous:mad:

As far as Dizzy's post. The truth is that mutilation is horrible and unnecessary, the picture just shows the truth.

I have to add, I've often wanted to mention just how beautiful your dogs are...just beautiful!!

I also agree with before 12 weeks of age.... I personally don't like the cropping procedure, but I prefer a lot of dogs with pricked ears. I think I'll stick with the natural prick-eared breeds. ;)
