I am so sorry for your scare! THere is a mountain lion that has been killed on the front page of my little town's newspaper. There are other sitings too. Brings a new worry to running in the places we usually go.
scary.

How did he manage to get on the newspaper and be killed on it? :D LOL. J/K.

That is really scary! Those cougars are so elusive and you wouldn't know one was stalking you until it's too late. They are extremely rare thankfully, but still.....creepy. Yeah, running is definitely not a good idea in areas inhabited by cougars.

Well, I can say that having run dogs who then stumbled upon wild cougars, the dogs know the cougars are there loooong before the cougars get a chance to pounce on anybody. And the dogs are generally pretty fearless about the giant kitty, and kitty ends up a tree rather quickly. It's when the cougar has been watching the dogs in their own yards and sets up an ambush that dogs get eaten.

Cougars are methodical hunters. They like to watch their quarry and follow it for a while before deciding whether it's worth the risk to tackle it. They know they can win most fights, but have to weigh how likely they are to be injured. If they don't like the chances they'll pass it up for easier prey. And once you're aware of one, it ruins the hunt. They HATE when you make eye contact and try to slink away real fast.

I bet those tiger masks people wear in India would work well on cougars.

Good advice Renee. There is rarely just one. Many, many times a coyote will come in the yard to lure a dog away. The dog chases because there is only one, but there are more in the bush waiting.

We have a huge problem right now. Packs are minimum 15+ members. :(

But you have the Loch Ness monster!
:rofl1: :rofl1: :rofl1: He's not got us yet.

We do have otters though, which are a problem. Todd was attacked by an otter a few years ago and it messed him up bad. His own fault for chasing the stupid thing, but to be fair to him, it was in our garden. He still bears the scars from it though! :yikes:

Oh wow! An otter doing that! I am so sorry he was so injured. I know thet can be a problem. My sister lives on Puget Sound (arm of the Pacific ocean) in Washington state, waterfront and they had a bunch of otters living under their deck. And what a stench they made! :eek:It was awful. But I don't think they ever were attacked. How scary. They do have incredible teeth!
