My opinion is this - it's called collateral damage.
The kids might be delinquents, the dog might have really attacked...nobody knows for sure and between point A and B the truth lies somewhere in between.
However, no police officer should shoot into a group of unarmed civilians. The same goes for our military, if there's the possibility that a civilian would be shot they are not supposed to try for their target...we all know this doesn't always happen, but it's part of a "righteous shoot" - so if you don't want to get your butt in a sling, don't shoot in the vicinity of civilians unless they are armed.
I have nothing against police officers (my ex husband was one) but there were alternatives here other than using "deadly force"...

Notice the story changed from the dog being hit in the stomach to the dog being hit in the back at "point blank range" and the police said none of the teens were armed...

This story is fishy, we are talking Boston harbor at low-tide fishy. Also it doesn't say what happened after the shots fired, obviously the dog ran off because the police were able to subdue the teens afterwards without being torn apart by the dog...

I'm just glad that neither the boy or the dog were killed . I'm sure that the officers must have said something when entering the yard that made both the boys and the dog very startled ....after all it was HIS yard . If it happened here ...Ollie would run to the officer too ! Not to attack , but to kiss to death ! Wish I knew more about all the approaches . It's sure isn't fair to the breed !

Ok, I am not defending the cop, but it is a news story that we are getting the info from here. Have you ever read a news story that you were closely involve with? I gotta say that journalism students today and those recently graduated must have gotten their degrees from a cracker jack box. We don't really know what the facts of the case are.

I have to agree with this statement completely, having once been in the middle of a big story that hit major publications here in Canada and knowing the truth. I was amazed how the facts and quotes were twisted around. After that I had to question every news report I have ever seen.
I have also learned from experience that articles done for local papers must be proofed before allowing them to print it. It's amazing how they can mess things up. Even a simple article about dog training.

I agree with both of these as well...I was quoted in a military magazine once (because my husband was deploying and we had a 2 day old baby) - which I found funny because the reporter kept bothering me and I told her to "F*** off before I knock you out" - instead they printed basically how sad I was and that I just wanted him to come home, etc...when really I was just plain hostile and wanted to be left alone...LOL

LMAO, years ago, a friend of mine was in plane crash and the story ended up in the National Enquirer (not the same story that I mentioned before), she was furious. She hadn't spoken to them, but they had the story as being written by her!!!!!!!! Had her high school photo and this ridiculous story in the first party. It was a riot, although my friend was not amused at all!!!!
After she called me, I actually ran out and purchased my one and only copy of the NE :rofl1:
