Is that actually a thing? It sounds kinda interesting.... But I'm still not into the whole sport mix thing. I think it would be cool if people were to create a breed for sporting purposes and get it recognized, but breeding F1 mixes over and over again seems pointless to me.
Just to be clear, this is not aimed at anyone in particular. It is my opinion. Burn me at the stake if you must
Why bother getting it recognized? then you'd have to be tied down to a breed standard and possibly conformation shows and yeah...

Sport mixes aren't all f1 anymore. I know a borderstaff x staffy. Or borderjack x borderstaff. Or whippet x borderjack.

I'd like to see it go the way of Alaskan huskies where it's just a pedigreed mix. That way you can keep open genetic flow and not be tied down to a physical standard when the dogs would be 100% about performance.

That's in an ideal world though and I know I'm a hippy lol.

I'm not overly knowledgable so take it for what it's worth, but I have adored almost every F1 Goldendoodle I've known, including the one I owned but have met a few that were F2/F3 that seem to start reverting more to one breed or the other...

I'm sure not everyone has the same view, but for me I see the appeal... And again as long as they're not pumping them out for purely profit with no care, I'm "meh" about it now...

Honestly I've kinda come to the point I don't care much about "what" you're breeding as long as you do it responsibly, honestly (about health AND temperament) and keeping in mind the livability for most homes, I'm ok with it... If you're putting out extremely high drive, borderline insane dogs, make sure you have enough homes who can handle that type of dog, or else they're going to get shuffled about... If you're breeding Heath problem prone breeds, be aware you could be breaking some pet persons heart and bank account...

General "you" of course

What bothers me is how quickly certain groups will bash a breeder for showing a dog in conformation - even if they avidly do work or sport as well. And people that automatically dismiss your dog as subpar when they find out your dog is from somewhat conformation lines.

(Though I get that the confo world for some breeds has widely deviated from the correct form to something entirely different)

Some "purebred" sport-only dogs I've met are so far removed from what the breed is supposed to look like, I just can't get behind it.
While to me, function is more important than form, the dog should at least LOOK like the breed it claims to be.

I have to admit..... Best mix name ever is right!! LOL
OMG! KoolWhips!!!! Doooooooo it!
Yes!!! DO IT!!! even if it is only for the witty name!

SEE! It would be amazing. Best name ever and they would be totally awesome looking.

Is that actually a thing? It sounds kinda interesting....
It's not a thing yet but it totally should be

In all seriousness though, I have absolutely no issue with crossbreeding of any kind as long as they go about it right. Health testing when applicable, temperament and health paramount, care given to homes and all that jazz. Whether or not the majority of the breeders ARE doing it that way is not really what I'm talking about. More that the theory of it doesn't bother me and I really kinda want one.

Also, I know a common argument is that there are mixes in shelters but the problem with that (at least for me) is I care about health and I care about temperament and I want a puppy. I won't get a puppy from a rescue because I don't know temp and I do sports where I want to know structure is going to be safe for it and while none of that is a guarantee through breeders you are stacking the deck.

Plus, I won't adopt an altered dog and would only do so if I could do alternative altering options.

Yay controversy!

Oh! What a fun thread. :D

#1a) KoolWhips ftw.

#1b) People who have issues with legitimate, intelligently and well done owner trained service dogs and/or call people who need SDs fakers.

#2) People who get breeds and don't do proper research

#3) People who are anti-breeder or anti-rescue on a cray cray scale

#4) Those who don't understand what a proper weight is

#5) Those who feed completely crap food

#6) BYB's. I just can't. I seriously can't. I'm about to quit my job just because I cannot handle all of the people who want to breed their "awesome" dogs. RAGEQUIT. spoiler alert- they are normally the dogs I hate the most.

#7) Breeding a set of dogs back to back when you haven't evaluated the first litter in several years down the road. WHY?! I do not get it. You have no idea what they created.

#8) People who intentionally breed or call their dog a "mini-cattle dog" IT IS NOT A THING AND SHOULD NEVER BE A THING.

#9) People who say all bench bred dogs are meant to be forever fat and cannot do sports. LIES! ALL OF THEM! There is a medium ground, people.

#10) Breeders who don't know what health testing is and say they do it or those who say they do and lie. Just be fcking honest, folks. Seriously. Actually, add lying in there for good measure. Those who straight up lie about their intentions or their breeding stock to make them look better than they are. Just tell the truth and nobody gets hurt, for real. I don't mind a breed that is relatively healthy and certain lines that do not have health issues late into life. But seriously.. nah, let's not test these ACD's for PRA just because we don't wanna? BULL. I call you out.

ALRIGHT! Come at me, bro!

Ooh can it be forums specific?

When someone makes a thread or comment asking for help for their dog because it bit or growled at someone, and some replies "no advice, but if that were MY dog, it would be dead by now."

That makes my blood boil.

I despise people who look at my purebred dogs, several with titles at both ends of their names, and say "My dog is a Rescue" said in a hoity toity better than you voice like they have single handedly cleaned up the Pacific Garbage Patch. They throw around the Rescue name like it is a coveted breed and that they are better than I am. People who say "Adopt don't buy!" They have no idea how crooked most rescues are and they pay much too much money for their rescue, just to make themselves feel better when they are only padding someones pockets.

It usually gets my dander up immediately and I usually reply fairly bluntly maybe even rudely depends on if we are before or after coffee. I have a dog that came from a shelter. I call him 'the dog we got from the shelter' if people ask why I have a mongrel. And he will be my last dog that comes from a shelter. I am tired of fixing everyone else's problems, I have done it for years. My dogs will now be chosen by me and used for the sports intended with known backgrounds and breeder support.

^^^

I hear you there. After going reputable breeder route, I cannot see myself taking another avenue.

To each their own. I'm glad there are people out there who think rescues are perfect as lord knows people are pumping out puppies like it is Christmas lately. I do hope to foster again!

My biggest issue is with physical punishment, it makes me sad that the forum has become very punishment friendly.

People who want a puppy instead of an adult so they can "raise them right" when they're going to raise them the exact same way most adult shelter dogs were raised (talking about your average pet owners). So basically my parents. They should have gotten an adult, lots of people should get adults but they don't because they think a puppy they raise themselves will be better behaved or will love them more or something. Along the same lines people who think adult shelter dogs were abused/neglected or all have baggage/behavioral problems that dogs they raised would not.

I think certain breeds should not be bred/should be changed. Working in the daycare makes me sad for some dogs. The French bulldogs that are so high energy but have to collapse on the floor and rest because they're short of breath. Or they vomit every day in camp because they gulp so much air. The bulldogs who breath so noisily I worry about them, and have severe eye discharge and can't even run because they're so poorly built. It's depressing, they need faces and to not be built like a coffee table. Stop making them like this, please. It makes looking for responsible breeders in certain breeds hard because most of the breeders for these breeds who health test, do stuff with their dogs, and don't treat their dogs like baby making machines tend to focus on conformation which means extreme physical features. I wish more responsible breeds focused on other activities...like obedience or therapy work.

I agree with this. Extreme dogs make me so sad...

So if we are still listing things that bug us...

Antivaxxers - not the folks who choose it for themselves but the ones who claim you are poisoning Poopsie.
People who cycle through dogs they just don't have enough time for... and next week they have a new puppy.
The fake service dog fad. All sides of it.
When someone says Someone should call Peta as related to an animal neglect story.

Diet... training... Bsl... I am over that drama.

"My dog doesn't need heartworm pevention, heartworm medication kills dogs, I use all natural herbal remedies and my dog will never have heartworms. Or fleas. Or ticks. Or intestinal parasites. Or anything. Ever. Because natural oils are the grace of God."

"All processed dog food kills dogs. GRAINS ARE THE DEVIL AND WILL MAKE YOUR DOG DIE OF CANCER."

"Vet's only care about the money. VETERINARIANS ARE THE DEVIL AND WILL MAKE YOUR DOG DIE OF CANCER."

"You kill puppies and destroy children's lives because you have an intact animal."
^^^^^ that.

I find the sheer amount of SD dog owners on forums staggering. I don't know that it bothers me so much as amazes me?

And the adopt don't shop tag line going around. That actively bothers me.
