I should also add that I have a winter Back on Track blanket for pug that's fully waterproof and insulated. We tend to use that for trials and barn nights as she usually wears BoT gear there anyway.

I have that problem with Bristol as well, she has no legs, and a small chest, but she is long, if I get the 12-14" stuff to cover her back/butt then it's too big in the chest and her legs end up inside. I would love to find a place that sells fido fleece to find one that fits her because I love them!

I also have a couple different canine equipment coats for diesel that I really like. The zipper is on the back so it's easy to put on. I flat out refuse to buy anything that zips/snaps/velcros up on their chest what a pita!

I had Gusto's Fido Fleece (not actually the brand, but same type of coat) altered to fit him. It was pretty cheap - $8 or so? He's long and skinny and has a penis, which means nothing fits him well and he's prone to peeing on anything that covers his belly (or his own legs, or occasionally his chin).

We hardly use it now that he has the Hurtta, but if you have a hard to fit dog and a good alteration place, it may work.

Meg has a Zentek as well; I actually love it for the fit, and it does seem to keep her fairly warm given how lightweight it is. Crazy expensive though; I got talked into it at the vendors at Cynosport, just because I loved the look of them.
Tess wound up with hers because we were at an agility trial where it was colder than I'd expected, and I got worried that she was not staying warm enough in the building. The only vendor selling any kind of coat had the Zentek jackets, so Tess got one. It is a nice fit, she is more comfortable in it than she is in the other jacket I have for her. (her other jacket is a fleece one from http://www.doodlebugduds.com/default.html , black with a red plaid collar). I guess it's a good thing I got the Zentek coat, if I was ever going to have one, since I believe the red is a discontinued color and Tess wears red.

She wore the Zentek coat on the 2 plane trips we've taken, since it's supposed to keep them cool as well as warm, I figured it could help keep her comfortable while crated in the baggage hold, whatever the temperature might be.

Not the best photo, but here's Pirate in his Doodlebug Duds fleece jacket:

All my dogs have had one. I had them custom make this one for Pirate, because the medium size, which fits my other dogs well, wasn't quite right for him. Like all my dogs, he doesn't really like wearing a coat right now, so I don't put it on him much. I find they feel the cold more as they get older, so I use the coats more as they pass middle age. I mostly only put the coat on him now if he's going to have to be sitting around in particularly cold temperatures.

Juno has this:
http://www.jefferspet.com/expression-dog-rug/camid/PET/cp/0040276/cn/100001/

It was super cheap and I was drawn to the pattern, which is what made me order it... but I ended up LOVING it. After I take it off her when we go for walks in the winter, her body feels warm and toasty. I have a couple of the fleece blankets for her and while they're better than nothing, they don't block the wind and I can't imagine keep her THAT warm.

(Her jacket is a little small, but I WANTED THAT PATTERN lol and they were sold out in the larger sizes).

Like you I am not the biggest fan of the look of the Chilly Dogs but as a dog coat addict (and one beagle who HATES the cold more than anything) it is the go to coat on those cold winter days. The fit of the chilly dogs is amazing, he can move and not have his chest get packed with snow like many other coats of his do. Some other coats look so much nicer but his naked little chest and belly need that warmth. So, knowing that you don't like the look so much they are still amazing at keeping a smooth coated dog nice and warm. Just thought that I'd throw that out there!!!
