paulpaws.com I always see a sign for this place when I am going to my husband's work and I finally looked at it tonight. It seems ok but I really don't know. They have pictures of the puppies available but no info other than the picture, you have to email them for any questions or anything. The contract also looks ok, atleast they have a section stating the dog must be spayed/neutered. What do you guys think? They don't look like a puppy mill and seem ok.

As a business owner who knows the importance in putting out a GOOD first impression with my website, I find that site disturbing.

If you feel that it is "none of anyone's business" (as I often hear when I inquire about the lack of credible info on a breeders website) to know information about the puppy's parents, or health testing, etc, then don't use a website! A website, in my opinion, is there for the purpose of communicating to your customers in a written fashion instead of the old fashioned verbal way. Being evasive only leads people to be distrusting, and it doesn't represent these folks in a way, that I'd say, leads to the notion that they are reputable in their breeding practices.

Further more, I'm TOTALLY AGAINST the sale of puppy's in pet stores. You are unable to view the parents, the environment in which the puppy was raised, the interaction between other puppy's, etc. You often don't get dogs that are sound in health and temperament as testing is not important to 99.99% of dog sale facilities, nor are the RETAIL CLERKS (not breeders, not dog experts, just someone who can work a cash register) familiar with the breed enough to offer good advice or screening to potential puppy owners. Who ever shows up with the money gets the dog.

Since he advertises himself as; "you online store to the dog of your dreams" (for cripes sake, he can't even put a sentence together on a professional website  ), then I'd have to say I'd stay as far away from him as I would any other pet store!

And on top of that, he sells multiple breeds, which is indicative of a broker/puppy miller. Devoted breeders spend too much time investing their efforts (and funds!) in their chosen breed to educate themselves as much as possible on health, temperament, and breed standards that it's VERY rare to find a reputable breeder who delves into several breeds. Especially ones not closely related in type, purpose, or standard.

Over all, I'd stay FAR FAR away from this "breeder" based on the impression he is creating with his website.

It does kind of seem fishy. I would stay away. I would only buy a dog from a reputable breeder one that can show me both parents and one that has good health gaurantee's.

Visa/mastercard is a red flag to me.

And Dobelover, both parents is often not a good indication.

It is highly unlikely that after reseach, studying pedigrees, and getting familiar with the strengths and weaknesses of my bitch, that I would find the perfect dog for her standing in my yard, even if I had several.

It DOES happen that breeders may have the sire and dam, but MOST of the time, breeders seeking excellence end up sending bitches out for breeding. Do not take it as a bad sign if the sire if not on the property.

:D

It's a pet store, how can it ever be an okay place to get a dog?

No information about the dogs is a red flag.

Taking Credit Cards is a red flag.

Not being able to type in understandable English is a bit of a problem too.

It looks like your standard pet store selling whatever breed you want, and really not caring much what you do with it.

Red Flag ANY STORE that will get you whatever breed you want is using puppymillers.

I figured but it didn't seem AS BAD as the usual BYB I run across. I wasn't even thinking about buying from him don't worry, I have my hands full with the ones I got now.

Juliefurry, at least a BYB is normally only breeding 1 type of dog. Ones who breed several types are a mill in my opinion. I'd stay away from this place.

I don't like it at all. And I think the actual site is stupid. I was surprised they have a contract though

And right in the first paragraph is this sentence:

This dog has the following conditions
now______________________________________ and those conditions are excluded from any guarantee and is not valid to reject the puppy due to these conditions.
Pretty bad when defects are included into a STANDARD contract.
