Is Seren a show prospect puppy, or "just" (for lack of a better word) competition/companion? She is absolutely adorable :)

Mr. Silken Puppy is mine, so I'll be starting a thread for him soon. :)

I'm so excited to see more pictures of him! I think silkens are absolutely gorgeous.

Ooo! What did you end up naming him?

ETA: Just found your picture thread. Firenze is such a cute name!

I made my first puppy purchase today - dog bowls! Watson has handmade bowls from Etsy, but the seller doesn't exist anymore. I found these white stoneware bowls that are similar in shape and size, and neutral (his are blue and white striped). We're going to use the existing bowls for water and new bowls for food.

I enjoy buying dog stuff way too much. I'm holding myself back from buying leashes and collars and harnesses and things. Watson's puppy stuff should be fine and we certainly have enough leashes. I need to not buy all of the stuff.

Seren is GORGEOUS. I think Whippets are a better fit for me but I'm starting to get drawn to the idea of a Beezer in the future, they've got all the style with what seems to be some extra clowniness in there :p

Mama whippet is right around 50 days pregnant and getting her x-Ray done in the next couple days! I am a puddle of nerves waiting for this litter to be born, and I'm sweating it out even more than I was before because there's a foster pup at work that I kinda want but I know I should wait for my whippet. The foster pup has RG issues, my fave - every dog I've ever been really drawn to owning has RG stuff, I swear! But the thought of having Astro + another guardy dog is exhausting.

I think I've decided on a name for the whippetlet, but I'm not going to post it until I'm completely sure she's here and she's mine. Fingers crossed!

Good luck! Are you set on a specific gender or color? How high up on the waiting list are you?

I used to be set on a fawn and white, but at this point I'll take whatever pops out :p The whole waiting-and-having-my-hopes-dashed-through-multiple-litters thing has made me a little less color-focused, but I DO still hope there's some flash in there; mama dog is super flashy with lots of white, dad is more plain marked, so who knows?

Gender-wise, I keep going back and forth and the breeder is aware and understanding. If I can get a girl that's preferable. Astro keeps changing things up in how he reacts to dogs. He reacts to bigger, pushy, intact males, which a whippet doesn't really qualify as (Astro is going to have 15 pounds on this dog at least, which was purposeful), but still I think a female would fit best. I know I'll be thinking long and hard about it if the litter is all male and I'm not 100% locked into a female at this point, but I am hoping pretty dang hard that we get some girls.

I think I'm #3 on the list but the breeder is being awesome and trying to wrangle it so that if the litter is super small she'll co-own her pick so I won't be bumped out. It would have to be a litter of 1 to really screw things up but it's not out of the realm of possibility with this bitch, she produces small litters.

Good luck! I went through a litter and a bitch not getting pregnant before I got Watson, so I know how you feel. You get your hopes up, wait months and months, and then get let down. Especially if it's a more uncommon breed where there aren't litters on the ground all the time.

Fingers crossed for you! I'm hoping my own mama whippet is about 10 days gone
Thanks! And yay more whippets, I hope things work out for you too - all the mama whippets need to get it together and be on their game for us :p

Thanks! Yeah I'm not very patient at the best of times, this has been an interesting journey. It must've been even tougher with Welshies, fewer breeders and litters to pick from as you say. Which reminds me, there's a Welshie who comes to work! Tailed/undocked, just a gorgeous happy little soul :) I think of Watson whenever I see him, because I see so few examples of the breed in real life.

The appointment is officially tomorrow, I'm trying not to obsess (and obviously failing). We all, breeder included, just want so badly for there to be at least two girls in there, but mama is not very big and with her past litter sizes, we're all very nervous! I know it won't be the end of the world if it doesn't work out but truth be told, I also just really want to work with this breeder specifically. She's been so available, open about her practices and opinions, I really like her contract set up, and she's fun and personable - it feels like I hit the breeder lottery :p And I do like her other breeding dogs but man, this particular bitch is just gorgeous and having met one of her daughters, she throws dogs that are exactly what I'm looking for...it'd be really tough to go back to the drawing board.

Bestest puppy ever! He is clean, sleeps through the night, is quiet unless he has to potty, and is SUPER duper stable and social. Time will tell if he's got everything else DH needs in a competition dog. But dang, look at this noggin'!

I am totally in love with him!
