Lauren, the whippets I've known haven't been hard to housebreak ;)
LOL!

Ryan actually REALLY wants a greyhound, so we've been talking about a whippet as a compromise. Well, not really a compromise, because I really like whippets, but I've been trying to explain why a whippet would fit us much better than a grey.

I like greyhounds too, but I feel like I will have more luck finding a whippet to play sports with than I will a grey to play sports with.

Plus, size. If I'm going grey big, then I'm just bringing home a borzoi. :p

Not that I'm bringing anything home for many years, but it's nice to dream.

Watson's breeder posted a picture of momma Sadie this morning looking huge! She's ready to pop. Should be Friday or Saturday. I would share but it's not my picture so not sure if I should ...

We have puppies! 9 of them! 4 girls and 5 boys. All strong and healthy. Momma had some issues and needed a c-section after the first couple, but she's doing well.

Thanks everyone! I'm so excited to meet them in a couple weeks. I'm very pleased with the boy/girl ratio. I was afraid there wouldn't be enough girls and I would have to consider a boy, especially when we thought there were only 5 after the ultrasound. Not that I don't like boys, but with Watson's weirdness around intact males I was afraid he would decide to hate the puppy at maturity and I would have to neuter someone. Plus I'm just ready to try out a girl this time. I get second pick of the girls and I was also afraid of not getting the temperament I want if there weren't enough girls to choose from.

No pictures yet :-(

Ahh!! She's gorgeous! I'll be really excited to see who you end up with : ) What traits are you looking for, personality wise? : )
Uh, crazy? Haha. I want a dog primarily for sports and active stuff so I want the most confident outgoing highest drive puppy. Most puppy buyers will want the easy going family pet, but I want the spunky pushy puppy. I have met enough Welsh who are a bit timid or overly reserved, so I want to go to the opposite end. It's hard to tell though. Watson seemed very middle of the road for his litter and he turned out a bit bananas. His sister seemed very feisty but she is lower energy than him as an adult. I'm not worried though - neither of the parents are shy and the puppies from her first litter were great (Watson's dad was the father of that litter). Watson's lines tend towards confident dogs with big personalities which is what I want.

Congrats on Watson babies! That female is gorgeous. This is the litter that's going to have tails, correct?

Yes, as far as I know. She was still considering docking about a month ago and asked for my vote, but I think she decided to keep tails. It's funny because my husband now prefers docked but I told him his vote didn't count. Haha

If a greyhound is what you want, I can put you in touch with my breeder. I could not be happier with Kili as a sport dog. She does a lot with her own dogs - agility, obedience, lure coursing, weight pull, nose work.... I didn't read further back to see what your timeline is but I know she just bred one of her girls a few days ago. And she's waiting on another one to come in (see my thread "talk me off the puppy ledge") that is amazing.

If a whippet is what you want, then by all means... but if you're only looking at whippets because you don't think you can find a sport greyhound... I'm here to tell you that you can. :)
