well you all have your temporary chat now so whts the problem.
He said he was fixing it. Give him some time. He didn't change the original chat... whereever that template (probably not the right word) came from decided to make changes to the free version
To be honest... after the reaction in this thread for trying to fix the chat... I can't blame him for not wanting to rush it. all he's gotten is grief. and I'm sure he wants to do this right the FIRST time so we don't end up with another thread about how horrible this place is and how unfair it is.
People come in here and jump all over his back and then get ticked off when he reacts defensively... stop giving him a reason to react that way and let him do what he needs to do to fix chat. The less he has to deal with everyone in here the sooner it will be finished
and how about a please and thank you every once in a while

When people EARN please and thank you I use it, same with respect.
As far as doing this right the first time, is that the last first time that left it like it was, or this first time?
I've been at the top of the ladder, in the middle, and at the bottom. Guess what? There's crap in all three places, there's also a lot of rewards in all three places. However, at the top, when something major goes wrong, it's your neck that is stuck out the farthest.
Being in the skilled trades, I'm often dealing with engineers. Many are great guys and gals, they know there stuff, and earn my respect. Every now and then, one comes along with his head so far into the textbooks they don't know how to deal with real life. A project this spring I had one of these.....he wanted us to shut down a factory shipping dock for 3 months to do things his way....I pointed out that by moving one wall 8', we could have the job done cheaper, and in about 3 weeks. His response was..."it's up to the customer". To which the customer never lifted his head, pointed a thumb at me and said "We'll do it HIS way".
Are there better ways to do things? Sure. Are we all perfect? Nope. Some of us make mistakes. The ones that don't generally just don't do anything. Will some just sit back and complain? Certainly. I can only do that myself, I'm not an admin or mod, just a user. I do try to 'complain' in an unbiased manner, and where/how I can, will try to suggest options.
Seems ironic that many on here have commented on how many of my posts are "some of the most polite and respectful disagreements I've seen on Chaz lately" yet I got a warning last night for being 'antagonistic' in this thread.
remember that line then when you get responses you don't like.
For some reason we all think we should be given the respect that we think others need to earn but I"m not sure any of us have really earned any respect
As for earning please and thank you... I am definitely not of that mind frame. Please and thank you is a common courtesy and should always be used when making requests. AS far as I am concerned EVERYONE deserves to hear please and thank you. It doesn't have to be respect... it's just common courtesy. I will be teaching Hannah to always say please and thank you and the best way to teach it is to use it freely myself

Chat has been a problem for quite awhile now. ALL of chat. Chat will be shut down until it is fixed properly, so that if need be, moderators can moderator and we can handle problems appropriately as they arise. If MT says that recent events have made him think twice about bringing it back, perhaps you should be proving it is a beneficial tool to have around and that it would be beneficial to the forum as a whole to have it back quickly.
I really feel that if you want kindness and respect, you need to dish it out yourselves as well. As before, I see a lot of people who feel entitled making demands, but yet not thanking MT for what he has done and has tried to do and is trying to do (though, some of you have, and I thank you for that!).
I suggest that making demands and bringing undue drama, stop. It's not cute, it doesn't get your point across as you would probably like it it to and it certainly doesn't work for the forum as a whole.

I just read back through this thread, and overall, and I see nothing but courtesy and politeness in the questions that were asked. They ARE asking the questions in a polite and respectful manner, it's just the subject matter that has people up in arms.

I can't help it.... I feel bad for those who enjoy it, but man, Dekka, you were a big part of getting a Chat that I really, really enjoyed shut down, and sadly because there was no forum there, I lost touch with people I chatted with when time allowed....
I can't help but think when It's a chat you love so much, you are pretty upset, when It was one I loved you made a hurtful video about it...
I clearly remember MT asking for advice for good chat tools, HE did not change the chat, the provider did... those changes would have happened if it had been Chaz as well...

LL I have no idea what you mean. Because I stood up when people slandered others? I think I still have all the screen shots. People should just let newbies be run off and ridiculed? I am sorry but whilst I wish that chatroom was still there I don't condone what people were doing at all. It made what (I heard I wasn't there) happened in chaz chat look like small potatoes. That chat room represented the JRTCA and when long time members would say horrible horrible things about people not in chat, tell newbies they are stupid and shouldn't own JRTs.... I am sorry but if you can't stop the people from doing that.. then perhaps there should be no chat. I simply reported what was going on.... I didn't shut down the chat.

It has to do with you being upset, as an innocent bystander, that a chat you loved is shut down....
Standing up is one thing, but if that's all that happened, then why go the step to make a video about it the way you did...
Yes there were things going on there that should not be, and yes, people were jumping on newbies (and of course that never happen here)... however, it was not any worse than what happens here sometimes!!
My point is, I was an Innocent bystander, who lost out on that one... and I do know, from my own experience, and my memory is not faulty, that you poked fun at something that hurt a great many others...
I have seen every single thing you complained about there happen in this chat, and I did not even go in here that often!! I have seen people laugh as others get riled up, I have seen people slam posters/ threads, I have seen people gang up, and I am not saying everyone, in case someone thinks that!!
Did the JRT chat have drama? Sure, Chaz has that too... It also had a collection of dedicated JRT people, some of whom had decades of working and JRT experience, that would do anything to help one another.... Rather like many here.....
I chatted there for years before you came along, so maybe I had a more personal relationship with the chatters, but no matter, it stung to be an innocent bystander while you seemed to make light of the situation with a Star Wars style video...
As to the bold part, ummmmm I think I am likely one of the biggest defenders when that happens here, I always defend people, sometimes even when they don't deserve it...... Hard to argue I want that to happen
I don't however, report every person here who gets too harsh on a newbie to MT because, they also are expressing an opinion... though I may point out that I don't like the opinion....

What was said to newbies was far far worse than anything that happens here.
Why the video... cause it amused us at the time. It was to help the people that were victimized by the others, after everyone who was there had seen it I took it down. But all this happened AFTER chat was shut down. And so far in this chat I have never seen the things said that were said in the JRT chat. I have never seen open slander or hate in chaz chat (not saying it has never happened.. but I am there often and I have yet to see it) I saw it almost daily on the JRTCA chat room. I can forward you the screen shots if I can find them (should be on one of my back up disks) if you care to see what was being said. And the people saying them didn't care at all if it was getting back to the people they were saying them about...
I am still in contact with some of the friends I made in there. If there were such great friends why not still talk to them?

I have submitted a support ticket to AddonChat. So, the ball is rolling. How long really depends on them at this point.
