Hello Everyone,

Chat is going to be down until I can get it working correctly. The things that have been going on in there just need to stop. The way it is functioning currently does not allow the members or the mods to use it properly and has lead to abuse of the system. I aplogize to those have have had to deal with the non-sense and to those who will not get to use it during the downtime.

We will get it working properly ASAP.

MT

Not like it wasn't mentioned once (or a few dozen times) before.....

Hopefully it's back up and running soon, and better then ever!

It sounds like it was more of an abuse issue? MT did try and fix it more than once and asked for suggestions for a different chat, I don't think anyone had any, if I remember correctly... It was working for many, but it sounds like the way it is now, people were not using it "correctly"??

Yes it was snip, thanks for pointing that out.

MT has been working on the situation, he has other things to attend besides this.

He was kind enough to leave it open the way it was thinking you guys enjoy chat and could handle it until it was fixed the right way. He was obviously mistaken.

That is the reason it will be closed until it IS taken care of.

That is a pretty good summation LL, thank you :)

So....since one or two people can't behave, and we can't get the support from the forum to enforce the stuff that needs to be, the rest get 'punished'. Fair enough!

Please save the drama. There is none to be had here. It was a simple announcement explaining where chat went, and that it WOULD be coming back........it's nothing permanent.

If you call a little chat room here at the forum being broken a punishment........then perhaps you haven't heard of things like MESSENGER, AOL, ICQ??? Any of those ring a bell?

I'm sure you guys will be just fine temporarily. Now drop it.

Drama? I'm not creating 'drama'. Maybe if the mods would do their job when the drama gets started a lot of this nonsense would be avoided all together in the first place.

Yes I have messenger, but I don't have all the Chaz folks on it...as to AOL, ugh, no thanks, and ICQ, though I was among the first using it (what, ten years ago), it's pretty much a dead horse.

Now...since we'll be fine 'temporarily' and it hasn't been mentioned as of yet, how long is this thought to need to fix? Couple days, a week, a month?

Oh, and the room wasn't broken, it was (as I understand it, since I wasn't there when it occurred) a couple of individuals misbehaving, and it got out of hand. So yea, since that is how it came about, it's easy to state that the rest of us that had no issues with 'misbehaving' are in a way being punished.

Chat WAS broken. It was not functioning properly and was therefore taken advantage of.

I am asking you once again to leave it alone. Unless you have a useful comment, don't bother.

A little reminder here.....

Chazhound Forum Participation Guildlines:

1. Please be respectful to other members and moderators. You don’t have to like or agree with everyone, but please state your thoughts in a respectful manner. Absolutely no name calling. No personal attacks.

You basically stated that my comments were 'useless', but, IMO, asking how long we can expect chat to be down is not only useful information I'm requesting, but more than fair enough. I don't appreciate my comments being called useless, and feel that is a form of a personal attack.

Besides, chat has been the same way for what, 2 months or more? Nowhere was there mention of it being 'broken' in it's current form, just that it didn't function as it used to, and that many people had issues accessing it. I saw 'stickies' of how to access it, but never did I see one that said it was 'broken' and would be changed or fixed, until certain individual(s) got carried away recently.

Perhaps you can respond with something more useful than 'leave it alone' that will help to answer some of the actual questions?

The chat room was broken. It was not working properly, as has been told to us many times in threads and in PM's.

As for when it will be fixed, there is no definitive date/time schedule. Hopefully MT can update as as to the progress of chat within a few days and maybe we will know more, until then, there isn't any more to be said.

And Snip, I'd like to throw the reminder of the rules right back at you. Please be respectful to all members. Thanks. :)

Yes I did because you were just sniping.

Exhibit A
Not like it wasn't mentioned once (or a few dozen times) before.....
Exhibit B
So....since one or two people can't behave, and we can't get the support from the forum to enforce the stuff that needs to be, the rest get 'punished'. Fair enough!
Exhibit C
Maybe if the mods would do their job when the drama gets started a lot of this nonsense would be avoided all together in the first place.
You tell me how ANY of those comments were useful to THIS thread, a thread announcing Chat would be down temporarily.

In the rule you just posted, it says to be respectful to members and moderators..........please explain how the above is doing so? There is more to being respectful than just not calling names.

As to your questions, the questions, I am SURE if MT had a time frame he would have offered...........again, what do any of those other statements have to do with your questions?

Nothing to add besides that I'm looking forward to it being back. The being able to change your name thing was annoying, imo. I played with it a little but the novelty quickly wore off.

BP, thank you for a decent attempt at an answer. If something isn't known, it's more than reasonable enough to say so.

As to respect, I realize it's a 'rule' it's also something that needs to be earned. Some on here I respect, others, well, I try to be courteous, but respect may not be something that they have earned.

Yes I did because you were just sniping.

Exhibit C

Unfortunately quoting loses the 'exhibits' though I didn't realize this was a trial, nor that we were in a courtroom.

Exhibit 'A'...for some time, threads were being created, pm's sent, almost all by the people that use chat on a regular basis. More threads were created by some of those members to try to explain to others how to access chat and get around some of the technical issues of certain browsers not working, or why they weren't getting access.

Exhibit 'B' you directly asked me previously how it was 'punishment' for some of us. I was trying to explain it to the best of my knowledge. As I stated along with that, I wasn't there, so maybe I'm out to lunch. If so, either correct me, or state that you don't know...chat's been 'broken' for several weeks, but I think it's fairly safe to say that a certain culmination of events recently led to it being down for repairs now. Again, if something needs fixed, then do so...I have no issues with that. How to do it? (Since that was asked of me in a PM), I can't help you with, I'm not a computer person, though I do try to learn what I can and pass along what knowledge I can.

Exhibit C is an opinion of mine, that has been brought up before in threads and PM's to some of the administration of the board. After all, this is a discussion forum, so it is a part of my discussion. Had there been moderation (if what happened in 'Exhibit B' is correct) than perhaps chat would still be working as it was, broken or otherwise. Now, as I stated, I wasn't there at the time, so again, I have no clue if a mod was even present or not. I will say, that since the majority of my time on Chaz is spent in the chat room, I can confidently say that I don't ever recall any 'moderation' occurring in there with one exception, a comment about a discussion from Buddy's Parents that was going beyond the limits of reason for the forum.

Do these statements have direct connections to my statements? (Since this is the FIRST time it was asked....) maybe not, but they are discussion revolving around aspects of chat, and furthermore aspects of Chaz. When MT posted this, it was done as a forum thread, not even a sticky, so to me, it is a 'discussion' not an 'announcement'.

I'm sure that if asked, there will be someone on here that has technical know-how that could help fix or setup a chat that would work for everyone, or can at least point in the right direction.

Look, Chat was being abused on several different fronts. Some of which make me not want to EVER bring it back. It blows my mind how a bunch of "adults" act just because they are on the other end of a computer and have full anonymity.

I haven't punished anyone.... I put a temporary end to a tool that was being abused and used in a way that it was not intended for. Is it the software's fault? Of course not. It's the never the tool, but those who wield it.

The new tool will have much more control, logging and therefore "accountability" built into it. As far as a time frame, well, when it's done it's done. I am certainly not in any rush to bring it back!
