Well wtf is wrong with naming a dog Peanut?
That quote is so stereotypical. My dog is named Peanut, big whoop. I'm sure shes angry over her name.
Two reasons. One - names have power and nobody, human or animal, should be named frivolously, as a joke. The act of naming has a sacred aspect to it, and dubbing a dog Peanut when it can look you in the eye without standing on its hind legs, is an attempt to make a mockery of the dog in a language he/she can't understand. Two - I've noticed that people whose dogs have 'jokey' names tend to also be people who allow very obnoxious behavior from their dogs in public. I think the names are part of a larger problem of people not taking their dogs seriously as adult animals, behaving instead as if they were just cuddly child-substitutes, and expecting everyone else to tolerate them endlessly.
