Well wtf is wrong with naming a dog Peanut?

Two reasons. One - names have power and nobody, human or animal, should be named frivolously, as a joke. The act of naming has a sacred aspect to it, and dubbing a dog Peanut when it can look you in the eye without standing on its hind legs, is an attempt to make a mockery of the dog in a language he/she can't understand. Two - I've noticed that people whose dogs have 'jokey' names tend to also be people who allow very obnoxious behavior from their dogs in public. I think the names are part of a larger problem of people not taking their dogs seriously as adult animals, behaving instead as if they were just cuddly child-substitutes, and expecting everyone else to tolerate them endlessly.

That quote is so stereotypical. My dog is named Peanut, big whoop. I'm sure shes angry over her name.

there wasn't any gossip either IMO...it was just statements casa made on another thread. i figured casa would make a comment about it since he said something earlier...thought he'd still be watching the thread since it was made to continue his "name" concept.

sorry if it was a problem...or if it got Riot in trouble...:(

why are you assuming I let it escalate??? i made one comment regarding casablanca's view on people name's and that is it! i apologized immediately after to zoom...who said it was bashing/gossip (even though neither had been going on) and I apologized if Riot got in trouble.

how did i "let it escalate" if i only made the ONE comment and then apologized TWICE? don't make this like the other threads where you jump on me for nothing. this time i didn't do anything near what you are saying and i will defend myself this time.

So... anywho... getting back on topic! ;) When I read Summerriot's post, I just figured this was a thread about our pups' names, why we named them that, and if we feel it affects their personality or how it affects how others see our dogs. NOT a personal attack, just a question. :/ that's what I got, at least.

Gonzo is named such because, um, I guess you have to meet him to know! He is a very well-behaved dog now, but when we got him at 6 months, he was allll over the place. He's still an active, silly boy, so the name will always fit him. He also has a big nose =P

Fozzie is named after Fozzie Bear, because he's hysterically funny, cuddly, soft, and very sweet. I always had the name Fozzie in the back of my mind if I were to get a second male dog (can you tell I loved the Muppets?), and in Fozzie's case it just fits him.

I feel that cute names are more endearing than typical "human" names... like, I love making up silly nicknames off of my dogs names (such as Gargonzola for Gonzo ^_^) and I care more about the name being unique and personal to me & my family. I feel that giving Gonzo a goofy name somehow makes my bond with him actually stronger than if I would've named him "Bob" or "Jack". Not that anything is wrong with human names or fancy names, I just prefer names that I feel truly fits them, and I have fun with the names. I also have fun with naming my Bettas ;0)

I didn't start this to bash casablanca1.. I was honestly interested in his theory behind naming a dog...
To tell you the truth... even though I don't agree with Casablanca's statement, I did feel like you were at least in part trying to mock him.

i like gonzo and fozzie's names. i was hoping they were "Muppet" related. i love the muppets...or did when they used to be on and i was younger. ;) it would be cool if you got one and named him "Animal"! remember Animal...now HE was wild!

BudgetsDad, I'm not sure if you checked out the other thread where Casablanca1 was posting.. the posters in there told him to take it to another thread..he didn't, so I started one.

I was genuinely curious as to what he honestly thought of Riots name and I'm a little disappointed that he hadn't posted his opinion on it yet.

No mockery was intended, even though I do not agree with what he has said.

I miss all the fun! LOL
I have to agree with Gonzo cause I did read every post and thats how it seemed to me as well. I thought it was a thread to discuss what our dogs names mean to us and others.

Summer you know how I feel about Riot...Ill bet I know why you called him that... You got him home and saw what fun he was to have around and probably told somebody he is a riot only then to figure out that AHA that will be his name....Ok Im stretching but sounds like a good story anyways huh?:D

Anyways What do you all think of the name Red? Was going to be Fred...
"F-n- Red" Cause he was a turd from the start.:D
