Okay this will be a miracle but from the sketchy details below does this song ring a bell with anyone.

Released - sometime between 1996 - 2000
Artist - female - don't know anything else
Lyrics - don't know but I know the story behind them. It's a song by a girl to the guy who dumped her and she's saying she's over him and has a new man.

I've searched lyrics by The Corrs, Sheryl Crow, Alanis and everyone I can think of that were hot in the charts then. Any ideas?

Sorry it is so vague. My friend is going through some issues right now and keeps harping on about this song. I'd just really like to find it for her.

Sarah McLachlin... I don't think so... but I'll try that. It's not fast - moody more than slow, I think. I get the impression that the song is sort of like 'Stuff you!' to the guy (which is exactly what my buddy needs to be listening too right now:)

Alternatively if anyone has any other suggestions for that kind of song that'd be great too. She's breaking her heart over Toni Braxton Unbreak My Heart and things like that ATM. Soppy sod that she is. :(

I have always loved the song "I will survive" A band named Cake remade it and it totally rocks! It is a feel good song!!! Sorry I can't help out more but I am really not into all those sappy make me sad songs :) I hope she feels better soon! I know that Natalie Imbruglia sang a song called Torn could that be it?

Yes Gloria is the original "I will survive" artist. Cake did redo it, and they did good, but I prefer the "Hermes House Band" remake of I will survive... *THAT* totally rocks. Watch the Video on YouTube

As for the song thats hard to pick out. My wife always listens to
Pink's Mizundastood

Personally when I'm feeling down I have a HUGE collection of Leonard Cohen, and Paul Simon (without Garfunkle, dot really care for Garfunkle) I've also been known to put both CD's of Pink Floyds The Wall on repeat for weeks at a time.

On a side note with those details you could be talking about a LOT of different arists. What genre? punk/ska? Could be No Doubt, alternative? Could be Pink, R&B? Aguilerra (sp)

you get the idea

Have you thought about Avril Lavigne? Or Monica? They got songs about guys and stuff similar to what you are describing.

Demitrious, have you got a recording of Leonard Cohen's original Hallelujah? I've been trying to find one . . .

Ever hear Eva Cassidy's cover of Somewhere Over the Rainbow?

Two moody female singers dealing a lot with this subject are Jewel and Dido

Dido's hunter seems to match everything quite well released in 2001

Renee....can you tell I'm not up on today's music !!??? LOL !! I still have the original " White Christmas " ..... finally bought some new needles for my 1940's crank up Victoria !! No, I only get it and my records out for special occasions. The old WW2 songs still make me cry . Especially " Now Is The Hour ".
