You all rock! Gloria Gaynor's I Will Survive is like the Anthem for the Dumped really. It's really hard to cry when you've screaming along to that blasting on the MP3 :)

There's been lots of versions of it including a punk version by Snuff and an accousctic by REM. Did you know it was originally a B-side.

That Tori Amos song looks great Renee. I didn't find it on eMule though. I still haven't found the one song that I was actually looking for but have a few great alternatives now. I'm going to burn them to CD for my soggy friend.

It occurred to me last night that I might be on the wrong track. It might be one of those groups that have a strong female so I'm going to try that later today - EBG, Texas (I don't think it'd be Texas)...

Please keep your ideas coming...

I will survive is the anthem for the dumped? I thought Alanis's song You oughta know replaced that.

Demitrious -I am glad someone else out there appreciates the wall like I do.

It's kind of wierd, but I thought of "Stay" by Lisa Loeb. but, now that I think about it, that might not be the same song.

I also thought of "Don't Speak" by No Doubt.

also, I really dislike Beyonce's song. where she keeps saying "to the left". whenever I hear that, I think it's some kind of dance song... but it's really a wierd break-up song.

"I will Survive" by Cake is a great breakup song, but probably my most favorite breakup song ever is "Untouchable Face" by Ani Difranco. The language is bad, but it's a great angst song.

I have a song play list on my computer somewhere that I made for my friend when she was having breakup problems, I'll look for the play list and post it for you. :)

To me, music is the best cure for the break up blues.

Two moody female singers dealing a lot with this subject are Jewel and Dido

Dido's hunter seems to match everything quite well released in 2001
Ooooh, Dido is an EXCELLENT choice. "Dont Think Of Me" is such a great song.

Another I remember is "Deathly" by Aimee Mann. But it'll probably be a tearjerker song.

I'm also a big fan of the Blue October song "Hate Me Today"

OOOhh, also Elliot Smith's "Somebody that I used to Know" - GREAT breakup song.

Elvis Costello's "I'm not Angry" is also a great track.

Kelis - "Caught out there" is great if the ex was a cheater

"Do RIght" by Jimmies Chicken Shack

"Last Goodbye" by Jeff Buckley

"Moment of Weakness" by Bif Naked (GREAT empowering song)

"Goodbye to You" by Michelle Branch is good too

"Black Eye" by Fluffy

"Judas My Heart" by Belly

I don't know what musical style you're looking for, and if you're looking for sad songs, angry songs, etc.....but some artists I'd definitely look into, as they have multiple great songs are:

Ani Difranco
Paul Westerberg
Elliot Smith
Mojave Three (Great breakup songs, but really depressing)
Fiona Apple
Archers of Loaf
Mary Lou Lord
Dixie Chicks (again, really depressing)
Bif Naked
Belly

Okay, lemme go hunt my list now. :D
