Gempress, that is exactly it. It's not rational.
I feel so bad about singling Rottweilers out as I know that the ones I have had problems with were probably poorly trained as well as poorly bred. But, after seeing so many Rottweilers with a belligerent attitude and after being lunged at and nearly attacked by quite a few, I can't bring myself to be relaxed around those that I don't know. I have met some Rotties at shows that were very sweet dogs and I know I would love one of my own no matter what, but I'll always be extremely wary of strange Rotts.

I am leary around pekinese (sp). Because I was bitten by one before..but I know that it was because it wasnt trained properly, but I am still leary of them

Please, and this is to everyone:

Please do not judge entire breeds by your experiences with just one or a few dogs.

IMO, there are NO bad breeds. But there are plenty of bad breeders and owners.

There is no breed entire that I dislike.

I'm with the others, in that I dislike PEOPLE who do not train and control their dogs.
I just simply don't like some breeds bad experience or not. I do hear where your coming from though.

I don't fear any certain breed of dog. I have been attacked by Dobermans, a GSD and an APBT. All being a few of my favorite dogs breeds out there.

There aren't any breeds I'm afraid of. I would probably go up to any dog no matter the breed, lol. It's the owners I'm afraid of...never know how they've trained their dog!

For example I'm afraid to go near my friend's cocker spaniel. He jumps up on you and bites and I am just not used to, nor comfortable with, any dog doing that. However cocker spaniels themselves I don't mind.

My sister has a psycho boxer but I still love the breed...lol.

I have met plenty of chows to base a general opinion on the breed. I do not think they are horrible, vicious beasts, but do I like them? No. Like I said, I don't like their wariness and their aggression. And almost being attacked hasn't made me like them much more.

I've met a purebred that lived with my GSD cross, and also a Chow cross that lived with her also. And just remembered there was another Chow she lived with, but I only saw it occasionally. It was nice enough. I've met one purebred (EXTREMELY aggressive), about a year ago. Met another one while taking a walk, it seemed to be a nice enough dog. And then there's the dog that I was almost attacked by. And a neighbor's dog which looks like a lab/chow cross to me (I've been rushed by this dog multiple times, it is very aggressive, mainly towards other dogs).

I got attacked by an American Eskimo dog when I was little. Seeing one still sometimes bothers me although I know not all dogs are the same :(

I'm not afraid of any breed or dog , but am very cautious with my approach of many. I can usually " read " big dogs, but can't toys. I've only had encounters with 3 Chows , and all were bad. These 3 had cold eyes. The eyes are the entrance to their heart and souls. Learn to read them.

My oldest step sister has the sweetest show in the world named Kasey. She is just a plain flat out lover. She never barks aggressively and would rather lick you to death.

That is the only encounter i have ever had with a Chow Chow or atleast a purebred one. So im glad its a good one.

I had a chow mix that was the sweetest dog in the world. I think there are certain breeds of dogs you approach differently b/c you know they are more likely to be more aggressive. I would not approach any strange dog, but working in vets offices when I was younger, I had to approach different breeds. Like bubbatd said, you usually can read a dogs eyes and body language and know when to "proceed with caution", "go forward", or "back away slowly". :)

I wouldn't say scared, but I definietly move with a greater measure of caution around boxer mixes. Not so much full boxers, just the mixes; I don't know what it is, but I've had more of that type snarl and snap at me.

I like all breeds of dogs but I can't help feeling a tad nervous around pitbulls. I have never been attacked by a pitbull, in actual fact the only dog that has ever bitten me was a shih tzu, it gave me a painful bite on my ankle but I feel that I can take charge with a smaller dog if it got too narky. I was at the vet a while ago and this young lady sat opposite me and her pitbull, a magnificent looking dog, came to me wanting to be petted which I did but I have to admit that I felt a little worried; I guess it has to do with all the media reports on pitbulls that has me worried but in the right hands I don't doubt that they are magnificent dogs.

German shepards
Strange but I have been bit 4 times by 4 different shepards. All attacking for no reason. I still have a scar on my butt.

Those and any teeth baring dog except little ones. The little ones dont scare me because they can easily become footballs. Especially ones that owners allow to run about. I know its mean but the owners need to take responsibility for thier nippy dogs. I'll be darned if I allow a little dog bite me without a fight.

I don't fear any particular breed. I don't necessarily LIKE every breed, but I don't fear them. It is sad that so many have had bad experiences with chows. Leo is the light of my life! Now, if you were to come and visit me, he would probably bark at you, but that is it. He isn't the kissy huggy kind of dog, but I know a lot of rotties, dobbies & such that don't qualify either.
