Of course Teeny is banned. She's one of them thur Pit Bulls
LOL! So true ;)

It cracks me up when people won't touch her because they think she's a pit bull, but when they hear that she's an Alapaha Bulldog (which 99.999999999% of the time they have never heard of) they will snuggle her to no end. Alapahas are supposed to be a VERY protective breed, and Teeny is. DEFINITELY not the easy going pit bulls that I've had come through my house as fosters! It kills me how ignorant people are.

It also cracks me up when people are snuggly with Teeny but afraid of Wally (Greyhound) because he's so tall. Hehehehe! Vicious Greyhound (certified Therapy Dog).

One nice thing about those therapy dog certifications, is you can quickly turn around a prospective landlord's ideas about your "big scary aggressive dog", into that big nice well mannered well trained dog, because you have the signed papers to prove he has that under his belt.

"Well, right here is his canine good citizen certificate, and his therapy dog certification and ID...." :)

Poodles are not little foo-foo dogs. They can be mean. I got tore up by a Standard poodle, twice. Not little bites either, both requiring stitches.

Ahh, kinda off topic but tonigth we walked Sophie down to pick up dinner from a the shop.
I went in to get it, grace waited outside with Sophie. Its getting cold so she had on her big "dusky pink" jumper.
I was talking to Grace after I came out, a woman had walked past, hauled her kid behind her and glared at Sophie, what was Sophie doing? Lying flat on the ground, wagging her tail (she LOVES!!! kids) she half sat up but lay back down when grace asked her to.

It just annoys me so much, so many people have hauled their kid away from her, but so many have let their kid run up to Harry and Mac, Harry looks like a bear but hates kids, and Mac is lovley but a bit to timid.

ahh. /rant

Maybe they restrict the basic (pitbull, dobes, GSD, Rotties, etc) and then just keep a running list of other dogs who have caused a problem in the complex at one time or other?

That would be the only way an Inu being on the list makes any sense to me at all, LOL, I understand (not that it's right at all, but I can understand their motives) banning 'scary dogs' or ones that are scary looking in the apartment complex..........but how scary does an Inu look? Hhahahahaha

It might just be MO but these dogs are the ones who can do some horrible damage (along with other breeds) if raised by the wrong person..
In AC its you just get so many diff kinda people you never know..
Ya know?

It has to be personal experience. Especially since every Shiba I've met has been a landshark! Very pushy breed, VERY mouthy, and very much into being in charge. So my assumption is that someone there has been told their place by a Shiba before.

I heart Shiba Inus ;)

Renting with pets is such a pain. I had a $400 pet deposit plus $10 on rent. If your animal is under a year its $500. And only something like $150 is refundable.

It is so hard to rent here with just a 5 lb dog, a cat and 3 people. For some reason most apartments seem to think 1-2 people can care for a dog, yet the 3-4 bedroom apartments aren't allowed- wth? That's really dumb. Our apartment used to be the same way.

If I'm still around here after next year I found an apartment down the road where people are walking tons of huge BSL type dogs that I want to look into. I see people with rotts and pits and even a smooth saint bernard there. Looks like it might be a more dog friendly place.

Around here it is near impossible to find an apartment that allows dogs, and the ones who do only allow dogs under 25 pounds and are way more expensive.

I can't wait to move to Maine . . . far easier to find a dog friendly place to live ESPECIALLY with big dogs!!

I assume it's just the list their insurance gave them, rather than being specifically out to get those breeds. It certainly seems like an insurance list.

Frankly it sounds like the apartment management put together a list of dogs they are personally afraid of and/or had bad experiences with.

Alapahas aren't banned. Though I'm sure after the management met Teeny they quickly would be. LOL!
I agree. I bet if someone had a dog that caused a problem, it would soon be added to the list, as well

thank god i've never rented and hopefully never will!!

the only reasons i can see with dalmatians is
1) their urine is absolutely TOXIC. I always know where blossom pees in the yard. Maybe they are prissy about yellow grass around the building?
2) With so many deaf ones, they have probably developed a reputation for being snappy. Blossom recently has gone deaf, but she never snaps at people... only other dogs (how DARE they touch her when she's not looking!).

That list is ridiculous. And why single out the tervuren? There are three other belgian shepherds...

The appartment Jazz Emma and i are in is no pets. :p

However the landlord (not the owner) is a HUGE dog lover and has a toy poodle in thier appartment. So legaly they couldnt say no to dogs. However they could have put a size ban. As long as the owner (whos never here) doesnt see them, then they dont care.

we are looking for a house anyways.

When I first moved back home I was going to rent a house. The beagle was OK in most pet places but then I have a big visious gaurd dog.

Some people changed thier minds when I said show dog tho. Its kinda sad. I know more nasty show dobermans than pet dobermans personaly.

I have known a few s.poodles and only one is really nice. Most snap and are DA in my opinion. Dalamtiona are not the best dog to have around children sorry to say that but the one vet in town said he has put down alot of Dalamtion for biting. I have never met a Dob that I didn't think was the best temptured dog around. I love the dobies.

Good luck in finding a dog that you like and isn't on the list.

I called and asked for reasoning on a few breeds. Boxers and Dals are too hyper/destructive, so I'm assuming that they have had problems in the past. The other dogs are "inherently aggressive" and you guys are right, it is an insurence list. The lady had no idea why S. Poodles were banned, and didn't even know what a Shiba was, but they are on the list.
I also asked what would happen if I chose a breed/mix and it became banned. I was told that unless my dog was a problem it would be grandfathered in (Need to get this in writing). The dog I'm looking at is a collie mix.
