Omg this thread is cracking me up! I think I prefer boys -- Bailey is the prototypical sweet, loving, easygoing, loves his mama boy dog. That said, if I were to get a second, I may lean towards a girl, since I think that's what B prefers.

As for the junk -- maybe I'm weird, but, to me, it's like I would imagine on a child of mine. I really don't care at all about it. I don't like freak out if I inadvertently touch his "hodilly" (omg elegy!!) when rubbing his belly. He's neutered, too, though, so that probably helps. I do think that buttholes can be gross and my bro's female beagle's is horrifying.

That is all.

a) I agree, props to elegy

b) I don't really freak out if he touches me with his hoodilly either... sometimes he climbs onto my bed in the morning and... clamors all over me and licks me. If I am awake I will try and restrain him but... it has happened. I have had dog hoodilly dragged over me. At least they lick it clean all the time, eh? Oh, wait...

c) I prefer the balls be there... the only animals I like to be neutered (for aesthetics) are rats. Neutered male rats are the bomb. As a side note, my mom's dog was eunuch'd at like... 4 months or something. My completely unresearched theory is that this neutering froze his hoodilly in 4 month old puppy size. It looks a bit perverse. JMO.

Linds, the pink ones actually don't bother me as much as the brown ones. I've gotten used to them by having a cat. I believe I mentioned this in a prior thread, but I will say it again: my mom's dog has very upright tail carriage... and it is brown... and I have seen it pulsing. That's right. I will take my low tail sets TYVM.

(lol FTR I'm mostly kidding... although I don't prefer upright tail carriages I love dogs with all tail sets)

I think I just threw up a little bit in my mouth, thank you for that image you put in my head

Totally and utterly agree, I find the stunted genitalia growth disturbing

This thread is funny. :p

Although, like I said, I tend to prefer females, I really don't mind "junk." Like someone else said, I just tend to give males more of a chest rub than a belly rub. The only time I mind junk on animals is with rats. Their testicles are like freaking bowling balls.

You know, a LOT of male dogs at work seem to have the puppy hodillys (LOVE IT) marking them as being neutered really young. And this whole thread has turned perverse, but I prefer boys junk to girls junk. And I hate looking at females whodillys!!!! And the upright tail carriage is pretty disturbing to me too :p

That said I prefer boy dogs. Its been my experience that males typically fight to make a point, and that bitches fight to kill each other.

My next dog is definitely going to be a boy.

Boys, Boys, Boys. I'll never have a female dog unless it's brought apon me for some odd reason. If i have the choice in dog, always a boy. Right now we have three boys, and I wouldn't have it any other way!

I've always had females, and so I have a hard time envisioning myself with a male. I don't like that males lift their leg... I'd rather have the pee on the grass, and not on a fence post or something lol. I don't like marking and humping, and I know not all males do this, but the fact is I've never met a female who has those issues.
And with long-haired dogs it doesn't matter, but I hate being able to see the junk on short-haired males lol.

If I were looking at shelter dogs, I wouldn't worry about gender. But because I do the puppy from a breeder thing, it's a lot easier to have a preference.
Jackson still squats like a girl. :) hehe. He will lift his leg occasionally, but it's more often than not he squats. I think he looks so cute when he actually lifts his leg, LOL!

All of the male dogs I know, intact or not, lifting their legs or not, pee on the grass...

I agree with whoever said how giving a belly rub to a female with nipples all over is far more odd to me than worrying that OMG I MIGHT TOUCH HIS PENIS.

:rofl1: This thread is cracking me up!!!

Thanks for all the responses. I think after this I'm just as clueless as to what I want.

The family talked about it last night, and for about two hours my dad had me convinced I wanted a boy, and then out of the blue, I felt some weird sort of panic, and yelled "WE HAVE TO GET A GIRL!". I don't know why I feel that way...I just don't picture myself connecting with a boy the way I have with my girls.

I think the silly boys are cute, and would be FUN, but the serious girls are what I know. I love that, I love a dog that has that look in their eye. The look that says they are wise beyond their years. I may love a male as well, and for different reasons, but right now, I'm not sure I'm ready to find out. I'm comfortable with girls. If I get a boy, and don't bond with him, what do I even do?

That said, I think when I move out on my own, I'm going to get a male. I always picture rescuing a little shepherd mix shelter dog that's a male. I can't explain it, but I just do.

For some reason I can picture myself with a male dog of certain breeds, but a female of other breeds.

However, after my outburst of "WE HAVE TO GET A GIRL!" we all decided that we're not going to look at the gender right away. We're just going to pick a puppy that we're drawn to by its personality, over-all look, etc, and then if it's a boy or a girl, that will be the last consideration, and won't be a necessary deal breaker.

Dekka marks as bad as any male outside the house and has a fetish for humping puppies (just puppies...) NONE of my males intact or not, hump. (outside of breeding lol) Well thats not quite true, Sport humped (and peed on) Darien on the drive home when we got him. But that was it.

I prefer it when dogs 'mark' that way I know all the mess is going to be in one spot not all over the yard.

I don't mind upright tail carriage.... as long as there's hair to hide it. See, this is why I'm pretty sure I will always have long haired dogs. You can't see ANY of that stuff. ;)

Oh and all three of our bitches here mark outside instead of squat (Mia does about half and half). Summer has big nipples but it doesn't bother me like the boys' stuff does. I've never had a female that humped. Only dog that I've had that humps is Beau.

Chloe has wicked gross nipples (I guess she had puppies in her old home or something?) but they don't bother me when I give belly rubs. Wieners don't bother me either, though, I (creepily) think they're kinda cute. :)

Males are definately easier, they throw less temper tantrums, no heat cycles, and a little less reactive. I have never owned a male that marked in the house, or a female for that matter. They are both affectionate and loving. It's just females live up to their name most of the time...Bitches. :)

Sometimes Harley squats and I'm like "Harley, dont try and be like Angel"
Sometimes I think thats his thinking because Angel is pretty much the only dog he "goes outside" with. He spends about 90% of his time with her.

I also feel kinda weird that I don't mind their "junk". Even when their lipstick comes out I don't even bat an eye. I am desensitized.
I feel weird when I'm around my friends and my one friends puppy dog he is almost a year. And his "lipstick" comes out and everyone is like "EWWW!!" and I'm like "What?!" LOL

I prefer females... but now that I think about it, I can't really think of any solid reasons other than what's already been posted. It's just personal preference ;)

But, I'd consider a male to go with Maddie (since she's female). She really doesn't care either way, but sometimes she plays with (fixed)male dogs at the dog park. But... I prefer females. No lipstick for me :rofl1:

I prefer males in pretty much every animal. They just seem so much more cuddly, which is something I love!

And count me in the group that doesn't mind "junk." Just another body part to me :p

...but then again, I have a male horse, so I had to get used to weiners really quick lol. The joys of sheath cleaning.

Both my girls have very small, nondescript nipples, especially Millie. It's never bothered me to rub their bellies.

As far as leg lifting, Harley squatted to pee most of his life and Rosie used to lift her leg to pee.

I'm not sure I have a preference, I like both! We have 2 males and 2 females currently.

I have never had a male/female fight in this house. It is always between the females and once in awhile between the males. The females will fight to kill and have to be physically removed from each other, and the males when they do get in a scuffle will stop if they're yelled at.

Marking doesn't bother me. My female Mini marks just as much as Jack (Micki doesn't mark at all). It's nice because when I let Jack out to pee he always goes to the same rock every time. I like that! The biggest marker I ever had was my female Rottweiler. She would mark all the time everywhere.

The junk is a non issue for me, but I'd much rather pet my boy's bellies than the nipply girls! Haha

My boys are much more cuddly all the time, and the girls are cuddly when they want. I do find my girls to be much more serious and have their own little attitudes and seem more in tune with people. I love my boys dearly, but they don't have the personalities and quirks the girls do.

But overall, I don't really have a preference. I'd like to have one of each, or multiple males with one female. I can't stand females fighting and maybe it's my breed of choice at the moment, but I hate having to be so vigilant all the time to prevent a scuffle over something stupid.
