I like girls a lot better than boys. It's hard for me to explain why but all my girls have had a sneaky, evil streak the boys just have lacked. and yes, I like my dogs a little less straightforward. I love a dog with some 'tude. The boys are sweeties and in a lot of ways easier, but I bond stronger with the girls overall and have a much easier time working them. Every personal pet I've had so far has been a girl. I am pretty sure most my dogs will be girls.

I also like the lack of er... equipment, especially on short haired dogs.

I like girls because I don't feel so inappropriate giving belly rubs to 'em--no junk to get in the way, hahaha.
I have to admit, I find Luce's boobies, well, distracting in the belly rub department. When rubbing a boy belly, it's straight-forward enough to avoid the hoodilly. The boobies are EVERYWHERE :rofl1:

I think it's all personal preference. I tend to prefer girls. They're more... complicated. (That's code word for bitchy I guess.) I just get on better with them.

Actually, my dogs fit the stereotypes pretty well.

River is a love. He wants to please me, and he is straight-forward in what he wants, usually food or attention.

The girls have some deviousness in them. A bitchy streak. I like that.

I tend to prefer the girls, but I like having a balance of both.

I prefer males, my entire family prefers females. I got a female thistime to fit in better with Buster. He can live with males but he gets on easier with females.

I find males more cuddlie and more willing to work for you without the reward.
I have foudn the girls more independant and willing to go out on their own.

I do love having a second dog that I can rub its belly without having to avoid certain parts. lol

And honestly, the girls snarkiness annoys me most of all, both are sweet girls but they just have that level of "f you girlfriend" at each other that the boys didn't have. The boys would either fight or not, the girls are just... bitches.

I will have more females depending on how it works with the dogs I already have. I'd love a soft tempermented boy next probably.

I prefer males in pretty much every species though, the mares especially annoy me, especially when they are in season. Seesh!

I like that I can give females a belly rub without feeling like a perv.

I hate the way females fight. Hate it with a passion. I thought it was just my own personal dog, but I realize now that it's almost ALL bitches. They are at each other's throats way more than males are.

I don't especially have a preference anymore.

I don't set out to have a preference...

But we have puppies, or get dogs and its always the girls that I want to keep lol. We got Bounce and Dash... Bounce is mine... When assessing JRT pups its always girls that I am drawn too.

I think its that girls tend to be more serious and handler focused. Boys tend to be easier going and more outwardly focused (more people whores I think someone put it) Now these are just trends, but I see these trends repeatedly in different breeds.

Not likely going to make a difference if you aren't looking for a sport dog. Just pick the right dog and don't worry about gender.

I see more of the exact opposite. :p

I've always had females, and so I have a hard time envisioning myself with a male. I don't like that males lift their leg... I'd rather have the pee on the grass, and not on a fence post or something lol. I don't like marking and humping, and I know not all males do this, but the fact is I've never met a female who has those issues.
And with long-haired dogs it doesn't matter, but I hate being able to see the junk on short-haired males lol.

If I were looking at shelter dogs, I wouldn't worry about gender. But because I do the puppy from a breeder thing, it's a lot easier to have a preference.

I used to think I prefer female dogs. However, I get along way better with male dogs. Majority of my favourite dogs at the daycare are male. I find they are much easier to work with and are more laid back. I like the silly, enthusiastic attitude they bring. Most females are much more serious. Especially in the daycare, I'd rather have ten male vs male fights than a bitch fight. Males bicker more often, but females much more viciously when they do. Bitches equal stitches... there are a lot of exceptions, but just my experience.

I also feel kinda weird that I don't mind their "junk". Even when their lipstick comes out I don't even bat an eye. I am desensitized.

I prefer males, but I don't have a ton of female experience either, just Phoebe and some of the shelter dogs. I like that males tend to be more "OMG I love you, please pet me now, I want to sit on your face and have a belly rub I love you", That's my sort of dog. I find they tend to be goof balls more so than females. Females take life more seriously. Of course I've met loads of exeptions but it's just what I've noticed. The dogs who are willing to melt into your lap for hours are mainly males, and I like dogs like that.

I never really thought about genitalia, I don't even notice lol, didn't cross my mind that it would bother some people. Of course poor Max had one that was like an inch long. I've also never met a male who marks inside and I've met like three neutered males who hump, only one was obnoxious about it. I've also met tons of females who lift their leg when they pee (Phoebe being one of them, she marks almost as much as Tucker on a walk).

If you are unsure, then just ignore sex and pay complete attention to other factors.

Sometimes when I'm petting a girldog tummy I'm like "oh yay, I can pet the WHOLE tummy without anything in the way." But it doesn't actually BOTHER me to have their parts all sitting there. It just turns more into a chest rub than belly rub.

I love me a dominant bitch! One of the best dogs I ever had was a sheltie girlie who thought she was supposed to do all the humping ;) But she was my girl and was glued to my side. In a "hey magic person who can open doors and food bags, I really wanna hang wit-choo, s'okay, right?"

But I also love my wee Jesse. The little man is a character! Very clownish and snuggly. His need to be with me is definitely the "Don't leave me magic person with the cheese crackers in your pocket because without you I shall surely perish" variety.

My preference is for a dog that engages with me. Gender doesn't matter much.

Although I am part of the junk-phobic crowd. I am so glad Jesse has a wee pink widdler! I manscaped him, by the by. Don't care for drippy stinky urine-yellow doggie pubes!

I'm pretty gender neutral as far as personality goes. When I bought Roman I had decided I wanted a male. Now I'm open to either. I've certianly met dogs from both genders that I like. And I mean, I'm buying one dog, not the gender, so as long as I click with the dog that's good.

I consider marking a feature. When we had a female dog our lawn developed pee patches. Not so with male dogs! I've found they spread it around. On walks it's irritating but you can fix it with training.

Re:humping, our first dog was a female and she would hump anyone who got down on the floor. It was not cool. I think she had a hormone imbalance or something. Roman used to hump his bed when he was a pup and he had a love affair with a male Berner where he humped it, I kid you not, for hours on end. Other than that he's never humped another dog, and he's been with intact (not in heat) females and everything. But, yeah, males are probably more inclined to hump.

I find male genitals to be the least distracting (so long as everything is tucked away)... they flow with the contour of the body. Female parts are fine.

Its the buttholes that I don't like to look at. So for me it isn't a gender issue, but a tail carriage issue.

lol my 2 cents.

Soo true! They do love to spread the love

Kaylee is a white short haired dog, with a pink butt and carries her tail high over her back, she's quite proud of her butthole

The only good thing that came from that is when housetraining I could always tell when she needed to poop :rofl1:
