Forgive the lack of a creative title!

the chub (who to be fair to her isn't quite as chubby as she looks with all that fur)

Whazat!??

Now for the others. We are building a new vegetable garden! I'm excited, it should be nice. We have 7 4' x 12' raised beds... still working on wheelbarrowing the 10 cubic yards of dirt from the driveway up the hill, but with any luck, once it's done and has had time to grow, we'll soon be in over our heads with veggies, fruits, and leafy greens!

these cuties were living on our front porch. Not quite sure why momma bird decided that it was an ideal location, what with the constant traffic to the door and the porch light on all night, every night, but the babies looked fat and happy! They finally left the nest a few days ago.

We've been out to the barn a few times lately and, though there's no Billie pictures as of yet, I snapped a few of the resident barn peacock and thought I'd share this one.

That's all for now!

I just love those furry black girls! Bo is so pretty and shiny. And your garden is to die for. What great veggies you're going to have! Do you plan to share with the local rabbits? :lol-sign:

thanks everyone! :)

With any luck, we won't be sharing with the bunnies, deer, and raccoons, but inevitably we will! We're actually tearing down the old fence soon to build a new (taller) fence, so we might take some of the old material and use it to make a little fence around the garden. The adorable dog that you see in the first post has taken to scaling the old three and a half footer without a backwards glance. Fortunately, after jumping the fence, she generally plops her butt down by the front door or sprawls out behind the car (not sure if she's trying to make a point there  "Take me or run me over, will you!?") Our potential makeshift garden fence won't keep the motivated deer or coons out, but hopefully the wiring should help with the rabbits, Boo, and any foster puppies that might be around. We've managed to keep the wildlife at bay from the flower gardens by literally "painting" the plants with a mixture consisting of raw eggs and water, but we're going to need to pick a new plan of action for the edible garden! Any ideas are welcome. A garlic spray maybe?

As for the veggies, currently we have one bed fully filled with soil and we've planted tomatoes, basil, oregano, peppermint, dill, and parsley. The next bin will be zucchini and some other yellow squash varieties. After that we need to head back to the garden supply store, but cucumbers, bell peppers, banana peppers, celery, eggplant, spinach, kale, and some lettuce varieties are definites. If we have room, I'd love to grow some carrots, beets, beans, and maybe try for watermelon or strawberries eventually!

BOO!!!! She is so pretty :)

I know a guy who kept the deer out of his garden by setting up a scarecrow with an outdoor radio he kept tuned to Rush Limbaugh. All the bombast and screaming and yelling kept the deer out :rofl1:

Thanks guys! I got all of the yellow squash and one zucchini plant planted today so that's another bed down! Only five to go :) Fingers crossed that Boo doesn't discover a newfound talent of digging.
