Sorry I didn't get back to your questions.. I had to work last night and I work again tonight. The PKU is just a blood sample we take to screen for metabolic disorders..etc.. has nothing to do with the bilirubin level. It's mandated in each state that a PKU must be done.. at least I think it's mandated in each state. We usually do them the day they go home.

The bilirubin level is a usually a blood test.. but we got this nifty little gadget that we just press on their forehead and it measures the amount of bilirubin in their blood without even sticking them.. it's neat and saves them from being poked.

Jaundice is just the break down of old red blood cells in the blood. It gets excreted in the stool... (they poop the excess red blood cells out) If your milk is in that will help because the more volume she takes in the more she will stool. The bilirubin level usually peaks around the 3rd day.. meaning it's at it's highest level. You should start to see her level drop to a normal range relatively quick. It's when their level gets up in the 20's that we are concerned because it can lead to very bad things.

If her doctor just said to put her in the sunlight then her bili is probably not that high. Did they happen to tell you what her level was? I'm sure they will want to follow up and check her bili level again in a day or two.. depending on how high it was and how yellow she still looks. Is the sclera in her eyes yellow (the white part of the eye is the sclera)

And you're probably right about the HBV shot she got. We give all our babies one before they go home. That is the hepatitis vaccine and she will need to get 2 more doses of it. Your pediatrician will tell you when to schedule those because they give them at certain time frames. I wanna say the next one is in about a month and then the last one in about 6 months.. but don't quote me on that.. ask your pediatrician to be sure.

I think I answered the questions you had.. if I forgot something just leave me a message and I'll try and answer it before I go to work tonight.
Its ok I know your busy lol. And no her eyes arent yellow, and they did that test in the hospital and told me it was perfect. That machine is awesome lol, since they had trouble getting her to bleed. Ok i thought they got more lol. but then i again i could be thinking the month ones lol.

thank you.

She is so pretty :). I love that head of hair.
Thanks and me either` i never stop brushing it lol.

Yeah she will get her next set of shots at 2 months, 4 months and 6 months. I wish I had her shot record card here but Brian has it right now. it's a cool card it tells you what shots they get at what age so we always know what she will be getting and when.

I assume it is the same there as here. At two months she will get three shots and a liquid vaccine that she eats... same at 4 months.

they gave us ours in the hospital and we just give it to the doc to fill out whenever we go for shots. But your Dr's office might have them. They are nice to have. If there was ever a time when someone needed to see hannahs shot records we could just whip out that card :D

When Brian gets home I will look at the card and tell you what it says. The card goes all the way into adulthood.

I bet your Dr would be able to tell you where you could get them if they don't have them. You could probably make one too. just to help you keep records straight.

Even way back when Steve was a baby (he's 18 now) they gave me a vaccination card when he went to get his first shots. It has all the ages/shots listed right down the line and you MUST have it for when they start school :)

I would say not to be concerned Breeze..............they will give you one with the first shots if you don't have one by then. Even the health dept gives them out here, which is where we get our shots done since it's only a 'donation' of $2 instead of the office visit and BIG fee at our pediatrician.

I got one of those from the hospital after giving birth also. They are nifty little things!

I highly recommend vaccination record cards.
