Fat Tuesday is called faschnat (fosh-knot) day around here. Kind of a doughnut. Lot's of PA Dutch where I live. That's why we sold so many stinking doughnuts on that day :lol-sign:

I suppose this is the best explanation I'm going to get as to why it's just 40 days (else it runs into Easter).
Yup. That's the reason.

I get that. Got that from the beginning. I understand the reason ya'll give stuff up (to show devotion/follow religion/etc) but I don't understand why give it up for just 40 days? I hate to sound like a broken record but I don't get why just 40 days. It should be to pick a new thing every year and give it up forever. That would be impressive and worthwhile.
Amen.

but since God knows we're not THAT good as keeping promises yet... He's given us many chances throughout our lives to do it again and again and again..

So is pancake day your fat Tuesday? I'm still confused about what it has to do with lent, lol!
Fat Tuesday originated just as a final opportunity to feast prior to the fasting of Lent :)

We finished our left over Chicken on Fat Tuesday. After a couple days eating chicken, I don't think I can have anything chicken for anytime soon.

Pancake day is on Shrove Tuesday which is the day before lent starts. Like I said earlier it was traditionally a day to get rid of rich perishables so people ate pancakes etc. And the pancake tradition has held. Although, apparently not everywhere lol

Yep, that's it in a nutshell - use up the eggs and milks.

We have egg and spoon races too - but only on sports day!!!

We also have welly wanging and cheese rolling...

GO, Lent is for 40 days and nights, because the bible says that Jesus fasted for 40 days and nights for... something... I'm not Christian, I didn't study the bible, so I don't really remember...

I think that answers your question as to the "Why just 40 days" thing.. right? I could be wrong...
