Are your dogs licensed with the county?

Yes, with the city. We didn't register them for years because the rule was that if your dog was microchipped it didn't need to be registered. Then they changed the law, never told anyone, and hired a bunch of students to go door to door leaving you a nice little note on your door saying that you had unregistered pets. If you didn't register after you got the notice, they sent someone to give you a fine.

Now we probably wouldn't need to but we still do just in case (we can renew their licenses online so it's not too bad). Animal Services has basically said they don't have enough people to enforce licensing so they really don't bother anyone. I think a while ago there was talk about scrapping licensing all together.

Here it's $25/altered dog, $60/unaltered dog. If your a senior citizen it's $12.50/altered dog, $30/unaltered dog. If it's a service dog there is no licensing fee.

Yeah they are (with the town). We moved into the house on a weekend, and on Monday the town animal control officer was knocking "Make sure you register your dogs within 10 days!". So we have. It's a giant freaking pain in the ass to register 8 dogs every year, to get all the paperwork in order and make sure they are up to date on rabies. You have to do rabies once, and then again in under a year, and then every three years. A bit confusing to make sure they are legal! And the vets are ready and waiting with their rabies juice if you bring them in not up to date by those standards ;).

I am, in theory, annoyed that they upped our fee by $2 this year to pay for the dog park they installed, when I will not be using the dog park. But in reality - it is $2. It is now $10 for an altered dog/$14 for intact.

We don't have counties here, Roman is registered with the city though. It costs $70 for an intact dog, but they reduce the fee to $50 if you pay it early.

Nope. Don't see the point in paying for something like that.
It's not enforced so just.... why do it.

When I lived in the city, nope, never. I flat out refused to pay the $50 intact fee (vs. $5 altered) and it was never enforced.

Where I live now, your rabies tag is all the "license" you need. They do charge something like $11 extra dollars for intact dogs and I don't mind that.

Absolutely not. I don't feel the need to pay the city to put my dogs in a database that can be conveniently referenced by breed and owner information if BSL is ever enacted here.

Yes. When you get a rabies shot done here, they send the info to the county and you get a bill in the mail a week later.

I guess I don't understand why not to do it...? It costs all of $10 for the year here, I think.
Ditto. Although here I write the check while I'm at the vet's office and they handle everything.

All of mine are licensed, though Steve's is with the county we used to live in, not the one we live in now. His is a lifetime license connected to his microchip and I just am not motivated enough to change it.

The other three have annual licenses. I was dumb and bought Ham an intact license and then promptly neutered him (it's $8.25 vs $6.25 so whatever). I'll get him a lifetime license next year. Bean has to have a license to go to daycare. She does get inspected and they do check.

I don't mind doing it. It's not very expensive and while they don't often check, sometimes they do. It'd probably behoove me to put their license tags on their collars, but I don't because they're ugly.

Nope. I don't think they need to be either. I actually tried to figure it out recently and couldn't find anything on it so if they do need to be the city needs to have a better website so you can actually find that kind of stuff (that's my defense at least).

When I lived with my mom, they were licensed every year (a minimal fee). When we moved across the border, the town we lived in only licensed dogs who'd bitten...?!

When I moved to the cities, I registered Buzz & Bailey.

I would do it in the town I currently live if Buzz's rabies was current (but it won't be). Since it isn't, I don't want to draw attention to myself, so I don't do it.

I am not opposed to it.

Half of mine are :p

Pen needed it for therapy work, and I figured I would get one male and one female registered so Kimma is, too. I think there is a dog limit that we may or may not be over  so I don't want to do more than 2. I have to look up the laws for this area and see how many we can have. It's not that expensive - something like $8 for neutered and $10 for intact.

Yes, they are registered with the city. It is necessary here as we like to use the county parks and you need a separate license for the parks with your dog and the city registration number is needed to get one.

Yep, they are. Not even sure why really. Nobody ever checks and my dogs don't get loose, but it's a rule so I do it. It's really pricey though. Like $30+ for the three altered dogs and $60+ for Journey because she's intact. I can't remember the exact fees right now but it's around there somewhere.

Nope, because I have no idea where to go to get them done. They do have their rabies though.

Lol yep pretty sure we would need a kennel license to actually license all our critters. Which is so laughable to me. We are not a kennel. We're just crazy.

I know a few years ago it was $20 for neutered dogs, $30 for intact. No idea if it's the same now or if it's changed. But that would be $90 for the 4 dogs for... what? Licensing has just always been a weird concept to me but again, where I live there's no one checking for it so I really don't understand it. Either way, I don't keep my dogs UTD on rabies so they can't be licensed anyway. :p
