Our yard is only fenced on three sides so they don't ever get to go outside alone, but I don't think they'd like it

Mine like it fine as long as the weather is nice. With the Chis, I don't leave them out but for a minute or two unless I'm out there....I keep checking. But they just sun themselves on the deck in this nice weather or wander around the yard a little bit.

Mine all love it. There isn't enough room for a good tussle in the house, but in the yard they can romp and wrestle all they want. Believe me, they want :) If Sunny was an only dog he wouldn't tolerate being out of my sight but since there are three of them he's distracted enough to not really notice me being gone.

Keely hates it,she barks and whines and barks some more... I wouldnt leave her outside by herself anyways , shes perfect prey for a hawk or eagle.. and the coyotes would have an easy target:eek:

Both my dogs are much like your Leo. Except it takes some coaxing to get them to venture out on their own if I try to shut the sliding glass door. I just end up going out there with them most of the time just to get them to go :p

We also have a lot of wildlife here too... Just the other day I saw a coyote in our neighborhood, and when Summer and I walk we see deer just a few feet away quite often. We have bobcats, foxes, hawks of several species, owls, even supposedly a mountain lion but I've never seen it... Even with that people leave their dogs outside ALL the time. With my small dogs I would never risk it here. I've heard of yorkies being carried away by owls nearby. Great Horned Owls can take many dogs and cats and we hear them a lot on our property.
Yea, a lot of wildlife here too, which is one reason I rarely leave any of mine out alone - pretty much only Tyr and only long enough for him to make his potty rounds and I keep an eye out the windows and not very often for him either. Sure, it's easier, but their safety is worth the effort of going out there with them.

We have fox, beavers, snapping turtles, owls, probably hawks, geese, some flavor of bird that I think is either blackbird or crow, deer and that's just what I'm aware of right now. I also will only let him out alone during midday when most wildlife is less active and when I can see out there.

since i have a six foot wooden privacy fence, including a six foot solid wooden gate that latches on the inside, i've become more lax about allowing the dogs to be outside by themselves if i'm right inside the door. if it's nice out luce and mushroom will sometimes sunbathe for a little while. the puppy will run around with his toy and make a muddy mess of himself. but none of them will stay out by themselves for very long at all.

Ivan has a hard time staying outside period even if I am sitting on the porch 5 feet away from him. Where I am Ivan feels he has to be and is not above letting the whole world know hes not with me. Peewee on the other hand LOVES being outside, he much prefers to be there than in the house. Hot or cold hes outside. He is one of those odd dogs the could and would be happy as an outside dog.

When none of us is home, my 3 stay out in the backyard with the option to go into their room, aka the garage anytime they want. When someone is home, the first thing we'd do is to open the door between the garage & the kitchen, so the dogs can go in and out of the house as they please. According to my dad, who's home for the most part of the day, they prefer to stay outside than inside the house!

When I'm home, however, they all turn into my shadow & are exactly where I am, every single minute, until bed time!

They would be but they never are. I never leave my dogs outside a lone.

Athena just loves to sit in the sun and watch the world go by. It wouldn't bother her in the least if I went in the house.

Sal I think would actually prefer to be with me in the house than he would be al lone outside. Unless of course their was some other dogs to play with outside. In that case he would forget about me.

Max was always fine outside for a while by himself if it was nice out, he'd fall asleep in the sun. When he was done he'd give one bark, wait five minutes, give another, etc. until someone let him in. If it was cold out then no way!!

100%. Pit would be an ideal outdoor dog in the sense that he couldn't care less if anyone ever paid attention to him and he just plain loves being outside. If I ever couldn't find him when he was a puppy it was usually because my mom left the door open and he would be lounging out in the yard for hours.

Mine go out, do their business and want right back in. If the weather is nice, the girls will run and play a little, but only if I stand at the door and watch. If not, then they want to come in so I can watch them play. They are very people oriented ... all the time!

I keep my back door open and when Hunter and Maggie May are here , they will be together on the hot tub enjoying the sun , while Ollie's in the kitchen watching them .

My dogs are fine being outside alone, as long as nobody steps into our yard. For that reason they are NOT left outside unsupervised. Daisy is usually the first to ask to come in because she knows there's food in the house and she doesn't want to miss out on anything. Benji would pretty much stay outside all the time if he could, except if its raining or too hot.

One is happy outdoors looking around ans sniffing for about an hour if the weather is nice but if she's bored she will just lay at the door, looking around and is happy to wait till I open the door. My SD will do his business and scratches to come right back in. Both would live outdoors all day if that's where I was.

Most would stand at the door and bark if left alone outside for more than 30 seconds. But things can happen to dogs left outside unsupervised, so mine are never left unsupervised outside. During nice spring and fall days, I'll leave the backdoor open, sit on the couch, and watch them come and go. But they are always supervised.

But yeah, they aren't too content on being outside alone. They'd rather be with their family, or have someone out there with them.
