I will always have an APBT, somewhere in my life, I may have to go a year or so without one, but they are definitely my favorite breed. BUT, I want to own other breeds, too.

I WANT a dobe one day and I WILL have one. I would also like to experience owning a labradork (a field one). When I am to a point where I can not phsycially care for a larger breed dog anymore, I'd like to get a shih-tzu.

There are more breeds that I think I'd like to own, but APBTs are my faves. I absolutely LOVE them.

I think, hope I will always, always have Filas, but one of the great things about them is that of all the Mastiffs, they are most accepting of other dogs, so I've always got the option to have another dog breed/mix.

If I had a job that actually PAID me right now, I'd bring Lulu home . . .

I haven't found "my" breed yet. If all Mountain Curs were like Meg, I'd own a million of them, but she's pretty atypical in personality.

I see nothing wrong with saying "this is my breed" and owning them exclusively. I don't think of it as looking down on other breeds, or not wanting a challege, just knowing yourself and your dogs and what works.

I think for me, it will change as my life changes. My next dog will be a herding dog of some sort - kelpie or BC. I have an active, outdoor lifestyle, and do agility work several days a week. I need a dog that can keep up, be good off-leash, and always be ready for more. But I also have my dogs picked out for other periods in my life. I LOVE sighthounds, but couldn't own one right now. When I am old and spending more time indoors, I will own my IG or whippet:).

I'm pretty sure we'll always have a Lab in our lives. However, I'm not opposed to having another breed if we were in the position to have a second dog.

Well, if I could only have one dog it would have to be a sheltie. My second one is the complete opposite of my first that I had to PTS, but she's a work in progress :)

Now if I could talk hubby into a second dog, I would like a collie, but I sure wouldn't turn down a different breed. Maybe a saint bernard or newfie.

There are so many other breeds I'd like to own someday. I love my pit bulls, but they are so inconvenient sometimes, and a little bit limiting to what I want to do. My needs are changing a little bit. I'm not sure what the future will bring.

I will always have an aussie. Thats my "heart" dog. But I have my heart and mind open to other breeds.

What I meant by turning up my nsoe at a dog was simply if a dog needs a home, I can provide for it, and it will fit in fine I wouldn't turn it down based on breed.

I'm afraid to own a Pit Bull. I know I'll fall head over heels and have to have 50.

There are so many cool dogs in the world, I could see myself owning almost any breed or mix- it just depends on the individual. I have mals bc of of odds, not love of the breed. I want a dog that can play my sport with me and the mals have the best odds of succeeding. But, if a super cool dog came around at the right time, I wouldn't care about the breed.

Plus, part of the adventure is learning to understand a dog that is not what you know. It challenges the heart and mind and encourages us to grow :)

I'm taken with the herding breeds. I think I will always have some sort of herder around. Their temperament can vary wildly but all in all, I love them. I'm falling head over heels for my BC baby, and Ozzys Aussie side can be prominent sometimes. My GSD is the best behaved dog I've ever had, and his bomb proof temperament is to die for.

I'd love to own a pittie someday as well, but thats far and away in the future. Ozzy's DA prevents me from bringing certain type dogs home, but I can categorically say that as much as I love this dog I will never own another JRT or JRT mix. Sorry Dekka :D

I think I will always have a German Shepherd around, and if my baby girl turns out to be everything I hope and dream, probably a Border Collie in the mix as well. I love mutts, and will probably have several more in the future. One day I'd like to have a Borzoi or Long Haired Whippet as well, but that is far in the future too. Maybe a Rough or Smooth Collie as well.

And, if my SO has anything to say about it, we'll probably have a Doberboy or girl as well. He is just waiting for when we have our own place to ask for one. :D

I'm into rescue... so for me, it doesn't matter. Give me any mutt. I don't pick dogs for what they can do for me, I pick them for what I can do for them. I save lives. It's what I'm about, and for that reason I am NOT picky about the breed.

...that you will never own another. I've heard many people say ''this breed is the breed for me and I'll never own another breed.''

I've always found this a strange. I want to experience as many different breeds that I can handle. I've own mutts(family dogs) and never a purebreed but when I get my life together I will start owning some purebreeds.:D

So what about you. Do you love your breed so much that you doubt you'll own another?
I will never say "and I'll never own another" but I can tell you right now that I will ALWAYS own an Alapaha and ALWAYS be owned by a Greyhound. In between I'm sure I'll have other breeds (I have had others, in fact), but thus far these two have completely stolen my heart.

But I think that people who limit themselves to one breed and one breed only are going to miss out on a lot of great dogs.

Oh trust me, she is very lucky she's cute. But after the stuff that happened today (long boring story), I'm starting to think that it's possible to have two heart dogs instead of just one.

I love Border Collies and hope to consistently have them in my life, but I love many, many breeds and mixes. I fell in love with 2 dogs today at the HS and I was thinking about how wonderful they are and the kind of great homes they need, not their breed.

I hear you on that. There are so many Border Collies in shelters though that I could fill up my house with them to the roof and there would still be many without homes.
