Think it's universally agreed that if you come to this forum you're against animal cruelty, neglect, & fighting. I think it's also accepted that none of us would ever tolorate the abuse of our own animals. But rather than "preaching to the choir" to to speak, now's your chance to brag about what you're actually doing to make the world a better place for our furred, finned, & feathered friends.

Do you go on protests? Do you write letters? Have you saved any animals or perhaps you volenteer at animal shelters or rescue groups? Post it here.

What are you doing to make at least one animal's life better? No good deed is too small to be achknowledged.

(I think this is a good post not to post here! but interested in how you help)

I think I do my part ;) I always take an opportunity to "educate" others who I see need it :) Nutrition, health, spaying/neutering. I love helping people if they are willing to listen with an open mind. Last night I educated a man who is planning on breeding his "un-health tested" boxers  He listened to what I had to say.............. BUT

We have cared for a wallabie joey someone brught to us, also rehomed a few dogs that turned up on our doorstep.
I write letters a lot, due to send a third reminder to someone in charge of agriculture here about battery hens as my other emails have got no response.
I've got some stickers to stick on the meat in the supermarket. ;) those stickers turned my mums best friend off pork. I didn't intend for it but I'm happy with it.
I have a folder of info on intensive farming/fur industry etc and I try to make sure I have as many answers I can get if soemone asks me about it.
I'm an online member of a few organisations, animal liberation, greenpeace and animals australia come to mind.
I also do letters to the editor when I can sit down and do it, might start writing another one tonight actually, thanks for the inspiration red.

I haven't been able to do it for the past two years :( Buttt....

Every year i run a pet food and supply drive for a local shelter. I put fliers in mailboxes all over my neighborhood asking people to leave food, toys, treats, leashes and collars, or gently used blankets and towels on their doorstep and give a date (generally two weeksish from the time i give out the fliers). Then i drive around and pick up the stuff, and bring it to the shelter. It really suprised me how much my neighborhood came through. I mean, literally filled the trunk and backseat of my mom's hummer with supplies.

I think if anyone has the time it's a great way to help out the shelter. I started doing it when i was 11, so it's a good thing for kids to do. If anyone wants to do so and has any questions about how i did this, please PM me.

I'm currently fostering for a Papillon rescue group. Donate what I can to local shelters & generally try to educate people to the best of my ability. I also feel that leading by example can go a far way.

milo's mommy, thats a BRILLIANT idea, I'll do that as soon as I have my license.
I'm going down to the shelter sometime in the next couple of weeks to donate all Panda's things, his beds, left over litter, his tray and all his food that still in the cupboard. I'm so sick of having to look at it everytime I look in the pantry

I volunteer for rescue :D

And I am slowly but surely educating some of my friends, and I will educated other people if they seem open to it.

If there is an animal question, my friends always call me :p. Although I hate it when I get the "Cristy do you know of anybody who wants this dog/cat/other pet" calls. Those don't happen too often, though.

Well, I donate leashes and I've donated food to stray animals that friend take in.

I cannot foster or I would. Ella simply will NOT tolerate other animals, so fostering is a no-go for me.

I educate and sometimes I help out (or did until I got screwed over by our local rescue) at the local Petco Adoption Days.

I've also given extra toys, collars, and food dishes to a friend of mine who fosters.

I date a vegan who is a card-carrying member of PETA. Heh.

I've fostered both dogs and cats. I have donated food, toys, and beds to local rescue group. I am currently preparing to bring home a rescue puppy as a forever addition to the family.

I care for my pets in the way that I hope everyone would care for theirs. I have them spayed, microchipped, and trained.

What I would like to do: Find a way to lobby for more pet-friendly rentals in LA. I respect all that rescue operations are doing, and in my town a vocal constituency has advocated for animal-rights stuff (dog park, mandatory licensing, etc.) but the number of animals that are turned into rescue because fam had to move and landlord doesn't take pets is STAGGERING. I think this is the second-most important change we could make in our society to reduce the number of animals in shelters and rescue (the first is spay/neuter).

I don't know how I'd lobby for that, but it'd be neat to find a way.

:D i run off puppymillers (although i think i had way to much fun doing so to count it as "help"), i donate to art unleashed each year...my total is over 3000 dollars. And i donate collars and air kennels that i pick up here and there. For a poor girl, that is about as much as i can do. I also write on here, and help whenever i can for those that i see in need.

I'm a vegetarian (!), in the past I've volunteered for our local animal shelter but....well, my own dogs come first and I didn't have enough time to do both. All my pets are rescues, three are special needs (two FIV+ cats, and I consider Conrad special needs because of his seperaton anxiety--most other families would have given up on him and to be frank we were almost to that point too before things started getting better). And I always educate. I'm pretty much unable to let a comment from someone else that indicates a need for education to slip by without a word from me.

In the future I'd like to foster, but right now, with Conrad, that's just not possible. Structure and routine are vital to his mental health and, as I say, my own pets come first. Marlowe would be great as a foster-brother and I look forward to being able to do it in the future. But Conrad has a lot of life in him yet and I want him to be able to enjoy his remaining years, which he would not be able to do with all kinds of new dogs coming in to and out of his home. Marlowe was more than enough for him, thanks!

I work at the local shelter, so my chances to educate are tremendous! I'm constantly getting people to take their choke chains off their dogs and go with something much more gentle (I get called up to convience people to do so, I guess I have a way of scaring people...)
I convineced a man the other day over the phone that he really needed to get his dog to the vet, she was suffering from incontience, and he was lost as to what to do for her...
I have slowly gotten a couple that I dog sit for to let their goldie into their home, he used to be a 100% outdoor dog... he's scared of storms, and in FL we get tons of storms... He goes inside now =]
I foster when I can (not right now because my female cat is going through some issues) and I do a lot of rehab work with abused/neglected/fighting animals.
It's all a lot of fun, and I try to get as many people as I can to volunteer and donate.

So far, I've fostered for our local shelter and I educate as much as possible. I'm even looking to start a club at my uni for pet owners and animal lovers in general.

And of course, all three of the Unholy Trinity came from a kill shelter.

I know it's not much, but I do what I can with my time. :D

I like to "preach" about spaying and neutering animals, I do not believe in any form of breeding that is done with out the intent to better the breed. There are way to many cats dogs ferrets guniea pigs or what ever in animal shelters/pounds/rescues/and foster homes that need loving committed forever homes, I am HUGE on nutrition as well, providing the best and most adequate food available to our fury friends, though I do have to admit that I am an expert on cat health and nutrition but just learning on dogs. I also like to patrol my local craigslist ( dont laught) and find the morons on there trying to resell their animals for 800$ adoption fees. I donate a significant amount of money each year to my local animal rescue here in RI, so yes I hope I am doing my part!

I've saved a puppy after it got hit.
I've fosters too many cats to count.
I'm about to take on my first 2 fosters.
I've done a few "classes" for friends with their puppies in Positive Ob Training.
I offer my help/advise when everyneeded with people who have "doggie questions".
My dog is from the pound.

Theres probably more, but I can't think of it right now.
