On the topic of wild animal poo, I feel that I share my home with them. They have a right of sorts, and if my dog catches and kills a possum in my yard, nobody will sue me for it. Dogs, on the other hand, have homes of their own. They have owners who make house payments and cut their own grass. Therefore, they and anything else that comes along with them should stay on the property of their owners. I've never stepped in deer poop, never been woken up by a squirrel barking outside my window, and I've never had a wild fox or coyote investigating my yard because I've got a girl in heat.

The other day, we watched two happy dogs -- looked like a foxhound and a black Lab -- trotting down the street, and then coming into our yard. As soon as they did, my husband jumped out of the car (we were getting ready to leave) and chased them out, hollering like a madman. One day when Terra was convalescing from a pygmy rattlesnake bite, she suddenly flew up in our window like a melon-headed spider monkey. Reason: some **** dog was walking in our yard. Not long ago, Priest practically head-butted through that same window. Reason again: some stupid dog in our yard, again.

Yes, this is a different situation from someone walking their dog on leash, but my dogs don't understand the difference. They just know that someone is on their patch. Where we're at, other than ourselves, I've only seen one person use a leash anyway. And if that other person (our neighbor) walked his dog across the street to let it use our yard, I'd have something to say to him. We worked hard for our little plot of sanctuary, and it's not fair that we have to watch out for other peoples' dogs. What if someone let their dog walk in our yard on leash and one of my dogs grabbed it? Who would be at fault? I'm not sure I care to find out.

I'm lucky enough that I have plenty of places to let my dogs go that are not anyone's property. Everyone here that has a dog and walks it (Me, people with GSD, people with GSD mix, some little dog I see in the evenings, and a fat schnauzer I saw) all use it. I'm glad I don't have to worry about where I let Benji go, because he never empties himself in the yard. The only way he pees is by leg-lifting/marking. If anyone knows how to change a dog's pee habits, I'm all ears. (or eyes, since I'm reading :p)

Not everyone loves dogs.... I can't see how it's mean spirited if they don't like them?
^^^ Good point.

Not every one loves having human children running around their neighborhoods and into their yards either. To be fair, the OP did say it was one of those over-55-only communities ... the ones that don't allow children.

I would respect their wishes, it IS their lawn, brown or not.
^^^ Another good point. Fact is, the dog owners in that community may not like it, but the law (and likely the community mangement) will NOT be on the side of the dog owners. They're going to be on the side of those who prefer other people's dogs stay off their lawns. Also to be fair, the posted picture showed only one completely brown lawn and one partially brown. The rest were green and appeared well-cared for. But like Gonzo said ... it is theirs, brown or no.

I have three dogs; I am obviously not a dog-hater. However, most of my neighbors let their dogs pee on my lawn, and it drives me insane.

For one thing, when one dog starts peeing on your lawn, every dog in the neighborhood comes along and starts marking over it. There was a month or so when, for whatever reason, no one used my lawn as a toilet. Suddenly, the little neighbor pom came back to it, and just like that, all the neighborhood dogs once again pee on my grass, my flower boxes, my fence, my steps, whatever they want to. There are big burn spots in the grass because of this.

For the second thing, our front door is a French door with floor to (almost)ceiling windows, and whenever some little dog comes along and trots all over my lawn, all my dogs see it, rush the door, and bark like crazy beasts until it goes away.

For the third thing, my son likes to play out there. I don't want him playing in dog pee! Yuck!

I don't let my dogs tromp all over people's lawns. Why can't they extend the same courtesy to me? :(

I live in an area without sidewalks. I don't have an issue keeping my dogs off of anyone's lawns. If I'm forced to move off the street (traffic coming both ways, for instance) we only step into the lawn and my dogs are put into a sit until the cars pass, then we move to the street again. No one's had an issue with this, since they sit immediately and it's pretty obvious they aren't going to go to the bathroom.

Yep agree with everyone, its their property and its their rights.
Drives me nuts because I live in the country and I am the ONLY one around here that actually keeps their dogs at home. And I don't like having to pick up after others peoples dogs or have every dog in the neighborhood and then some mark on my place. My dogs have never gone on any ones lawn, period, whether it be on leash or off.
When my dogs are in town with me, they don't mark and I make sure they have been 'pottied' before going so we don't have an accident.
I also never allow my dogs to pee (the boys) on anything that someone has to handle, like trash cans etc.
Training a dog to 'go' on cue is pretty easy and teaching an 'off' is the same.
