I live in an over 55 mobile home park and it seems more and more people are either putting up signs in their yards saying "No Dogs!", or just telling people as they walk their dogs "Please keep your dog off my lawn!".

There are about 5 or 6 people that regularly walk their dogs in this park and as far as I know they all carry bags and pick up after them. There are no fences or anything along this road that we walk on and it's pretty hard to keep my dog off the edge of anyone's property, as you can see in the picture below.... I don't know how in the world you can stop a dog from pooing once she/he starts, let alone peeing. It's not like you can shove it back in and find a different spot. All of us that have dogs pick it up immediately. Also, it's not like these yards belong in some magazine... most of them are yucky and brown much of the time.

Why are some people so mean spirited and prickly?

Also if their kids play in their yard that other people's dogs are crapping in, they can't guarantee those people's dogs don't have worms or something and transmit them to their kids.

Because I'd imagine not all people pick up their dogs' waste. Maybe the ones you know about do, but I don't think that's a comfort if there is even one that doesn't. Folks have no way of knowing which dog is pooping on their lawn. And honestly, I think it's a fair request for personal space. I moved out in the country so I could stretch out a bit, but I know when I lived in town, I used to chase stray animals out of my yard constantly. (I still do out here, but thankfully the country dogs seem to only need to be ran off once.)

Irresponsible owners ruin so many things for those who are good. I have friends in Eden NC and they own & run two Mobile Home Parks, they own the homes and rent them and do not allow dogs or cats anymore, at all!!! When we were talking it was kinda suprised because they have two dogs of their own. They just got fed up of repairing trailers, lawns and dealing with other tenants so mad they leave the park because of dogs not being contained and crapping on lawns and other poor behavior as well as having two tenants bit by loose dogs. It broke their heart to not allow dogs as they are animal lovers, but they are also trying to make a living from the park. It just sucks that people have to ruin things for others!!!

ETA: Insurance was also an issue, they did say they have looked at the possibility of an under 20lb rule but feel it is unfair to well behaved larger dogs. They are NOT allowed, for insurance purposes to allow several breeds including Rotties, Dobes, GSD & Pitties:mad: Right now their insurance is No Dogs at all, and the tenants were both bit by small breeds, one a terrier type mutt and the other I will not name, cause it does not matter but it was a small breed.

Honestly, your safest bet is to keep your dog on your own property until it's finished doing it's "business" ... then walk the dog elsewhere just for exercise.

Also if their kids play in their yard that other people's dogs are crapping in, they can't guarantee those people's dogs don't have worms or something and transmit them to their kids.
I think she said it's one of those over-55 adult communities? My friend's MIL lives in one of those ... those communities don't allow any children to live there. They do allow visiting grandchildren but no kids allowed in residence.

Because I'd imagine not all people pick up their dogs' waste. Maybe the ones you know about do, but I don't think that's a comfort if there is even one that doesn't. Folks have no way of knowing which dog is pooping on their lawn.
^^^ Yep, that's usually how such things start.
Grammy's right ... people don't complain unless there's already been problems. It has to be that somebody at some point didn't clean up after their dog. Probably repeatedly since apparently there's more than one person complaining. Unless a person always goes along with everyone who walks dogs in their community they can't really say "everyone" cleans up everytime. Unfortunatley, in these kinds of situations even one bad apple can ruin things for everyone ... especially in what appears to be a very tight living area.

that sucks. I totally understand people not wanting critters on their lawn. However, all my dogs mark so it would be impossible for me to walk in your area, since they never run out of pee! I'm rather surprised there are no sidewalks, seems like the complex should consider putting them in.

No kids in these yards...over 55 adult community.

I regularly meet with these women and one man that walk their dogs around our park. Everyone of them pick up after their dogs. One lady was picking up after her dog right after she had gone and a lady hollered out "don't let your dog on my lawn anymore!"... The dog no sooner had gone and she had picked it up!

And I was walking by a lot and Lily just WALKED on the edge of this lady's lawn she calls out to me "Please don't let him pee on my grass!" (she is a HER, btw)... I told her she WASN'T peeing, she was walking! My God, don't these people have anything better to do than guard their lawns from dribbling dogs?!

Lily marks everywhere, too, just a drop here and there, so she is not going to be emptying her bladder in her own yard. Also, she doesn't poo til she is about half way thru her walk.

Btw, no dogs are running free in this park. They are very strict about dogs being on a leash or being tied out and being picked up after. There also is a 25 lb limit, altho I think a couple of people are pushing that one a bit.

I guess I just have to be grateful for the rest of the folks in the park that don't care if Lily and the rest of our furry friends walk or relieve themselves on their grass as long as they are picked up after. :)

Is there an actual park or a field nearby that you can take Lily to?

I don't allow my dogs to walk on lawns or mark people's plants when we're on a walk. We have a trail nearby, where they can relieve themselves to their heart's content, but when we're walking through the neighborhood I don't allow it. Peeing doesn't seem like a big deal, but it CAN kill grass, and it CAN attract the pee/poop of other dogs. Once, Gonzo was sniffing the grass in front of some one's house and I told him to leave it... I didn't even notice that the lady who lived there had just been crossing the street, and she thanked me for not allowing him to pee there. Even if you pick up poop, it's pretty much impossible not to leave a little bit of residue which, like GO said, can carry bacteria/germs/worms/yucky stuff (even though I'm sure Lily's poop is perfectly fine).

I agree that your neighbors sound very obsessive... but, a lot of them probably don't have much else better to do. D: I would respect their wishes, it IS their lawn, brown or not.

I can personally say that I don't like people letting their dogs pee/poop on my lawn either. There are plenty of other places they can walk them for that...........or let them "go" at home first.

We have had issues with people letting their dog poop and then leaving it where it dropped...........and pee usually leaves yellow spots in the yard because it kills the grass.

I have two dogs, I am not anti dog, but I don't want other dogs "business" around.......even if cleaned up by the owner, because I keep my dogs vetted and cared for and don't know if "they" do or not.

I know it probably feels like a slap in the face, to hear people tell you to get off their lawn. Heck, when I was looking for places to rent and I was told "No Dobermans Allowed", it felt bad too.

Truth is, people have their private property, and they can make their own decisions regarding it. I for one HATE it when another dog is on my lawn - if it pees or poops on my lawn, my dogs spend the next few days rushing over to that spot to cover the other dogs' scent. Also, there's a patch of grass between the sidewalk and the road - people should *curb* their dogs - that grass is technically mine but "comon use".

PS - just wanted to mention that some people are squicked out by the thought of dog poop (or dog poop residue) on their lawn. I for one hate other dogs' pooP... unless the dogs are under my care. Weird, eh? ;0

I walk on a short leash, take the middle of the road unless a car is coming, and have my dogs in a sit stay when the car does pass and we have to go to the edge of the road. THis makes it so my dogs never take a step on other people's property. WE walk only after they have relieved themselves. They are not allowed to mark. If people see your dogs on their lawns they are going to assume that the dog is going to relieve themselves at will. I don't know why it would bother them so much, but it is their postage stamp of grass and i they have their right to it.

I will bet you last night at least 3 loose dogs came up and marked the plants nearest my porch, it gets old. Especially when they hit my ferns that just cannot take that kind of acid.

What about all the wild animals that poo on your lawn? Here we have 'coons, skunks, opossums, deer, etc. I am always finding their scat around.
I live in the big city... nothing but squirrels and rabbits in the yard, and they've always been here - the dogs are used to it. ;)

Why do they complain? They are over 55 and have nothing else to do!! :)

Seriously, if you can't walk your dog down a 5' wide path and keep it from going onto people's lawns, you need to work on some obedience training.

I tend to agree with the complaining people. At some point they got tired of people not picking up after their dog, so now they don't like any dogs on their property. Sorry that those who do pick up after the dogs have to suffer, but the bed was made before you came along.

Not everyone loves dogs.... I can't see how it's mean spirited if they don't like them? I mean... I think it'd be pretty mean of me to allow my dog to walk all over someones house who hated dogs....
