the newer generation of lyme vaccine, merial's rlyme recombinant vaccine, is not nearly as high a risk of causing problems. i do think it's appropriate for some dogs.
I've heard that too, but I haven't been able to find any current information and I'm not sure that it's been out long enough to know the long term effects.

I used Vector 3-D last year after Frontline did less than nothing and didn't have a single problem with it. Both dogs were fine with the medication itself and I never found a single flea or tick on them afterwards.

Before hand, the fleas were so bad that I was getting bit just sitting in my office and this was with Frontline! But after a good bath, the Vector and vaccuming Borax into the carpet, they were gone.
ah--THAT is the name of what we are using--Vectra 3-D--has worked well for us and we have lots of ticks (not so much fleas). The three dogs all tolerate it well--so we will keep using it.

Zackie skin reacts badly to both Frontline and Advantage so I try only to use it during the summer months but still it bothers me to have to put that on him. He has so many allergies as it is and I don't know it irratates the skin where its applied and he digs sores there.

How do you do whats best for your pet when the things that are supposed to help them, hurt them?

Thats where I am

I am Zack does not have a good immune system and the ticks are crazy bad this year

I just pulled two ticks off Nard and one off me. Dad had one this morning and Em had two this morning. Ugh.... Plus Summer had fleas. I need to find something that works.

We used Promeris once and it did work. However, it smelled soooo bad I will never put it on my dogs again.

It's not always easy. You weigh the benefits against the risks, you look for alternatives, and in the end, you do what you feel is right for that animal. Just because Frontline is the best for one dog doesn't mean it is for the next.

THat is what i am going to ask for..^^^ what she said.

I lol when i got my daily coyote one tuesday. THe website sends you a photograph. ANd on it was a statement from her blog. It read..."i found a tick on my arm. I may have to burn my clothes, i may have to cut off my arm". I so understand. I have looked at my dogs so close i know every freckle and mole that they have. I pulled over on the road once because i felt something on VIctor's neck. Glad i did before i pulled on it.

Sure puts us between a rock and a hard place .
I second that sentiment.

I am ALL FOR using any natural remedies possible, and my dogs haven't had a single tick/flea for years with healthy dietary supplements, but after Fozzie got a tick I was scared. So early in the year, and I don't EVER walk them anywhere near areas that are prone to ticks! (I hate where I moved, and this is only one of many reasons...) I am so squeemish about ticks that I feel physically ill at the sight/thought of one, and I hate to, but I'd rather put Frontline on them as long as there are no adverse reactions than stress over ticks constantly.
