Things like that happen sometimes here and there.... and will throughout his life. Don't fuss over him too much, worry so much or handle him like a porcelin doll. You'll inadvertantly reinforce fearfulness. Unless he broke his nose, he'll be just fine.

Big, huge, scary incidents can be associated with the object that is associated but making a big deal out of fearfulness can really escalate it and sometimes measures need to be taken to reverse the "damage." But that is fairly infrequent.

Once he has developed a good relationship and bond with you, learns to trust and look up to you, he'll feel much safer. Also, lots of pleasant experiences associated with potentially scary things, people, dogs, places will get him use to new things. When there does happen to be something a little scary like running into the mop.....and he bounces right back, that is a good lesson for him for the future. If something a little spooky happens, he'll tend to have a better bounce-back. Just so long as he's not overwhelmed or unduly frightened, he'll be fine.
