Desoto is another one of those I can't imagine him having any other name. It just suits him so perfectly. The only other name I even liked before I thought of it was Luke.
I wanted to call him Figment because I love the name Fig, which I'd have called him for short. But Having a Fig and a Zig seemed like it wouldn't work out so well. Plus Savvy just seemed perfect for him. His registered name is Savoir Faire. He very much follows my theory that you should name dogs things you want them to live up to :)
I love Savvy's registered name. Figment is such a great name too, I may have to write that one down somewhere

Knox came to us Simon. He's definitely not a Simon. Simon is a shy retiring name (in my opinion) more for a cat than a dog. We went through a TON of names for him. I wanted to name him Kracken, Steven used his one veto on Kracken. My boss/friend/mentor actually named him. He was talking about how obnoxious he is, and what a jack@ss and I said we should name him Johnny Knoxville, and he shortened it to Knox, short for both Johnny Knoxville and onKnoxious. :)
I love the story behind Knox' name and Enzo is very fortunate you saved her from the name Janis:D

Morgan was almost "Cooper". It didn't really fit right, though we liked the sound of it. At the time, we just couldn't think of anything else and were just going to go with it, but then BAM the name Morgan just came to us and I'm so glad it did. I can't imagine him being anything else, it's so perfect.

there are some really great name, and "almost" names!

Wicca was always Wicca. I think it suits her perfectly. Feminine, but tough. Unusual. Which is her. She is not your average corgi.

Pixel was named "Pixie" in the litter. Which I hated. I had a long list of names for her. I really liked Juno but there were a lot of Juno's around then. She was almost Isis though. It was close, but in the end Pixel stuck.

Boone was Blair before I got him. I didn't like the name at all, and wanted a fresh start. I named him Boone after the adventurer kid. I thought he needed a brave name.

Vito was Jackson. Which didn't suit him at all. My friend and I named him Vito after the mobster. It totally suits.

And Brit was Aimee. Which was way too girly. And I wanted a short, fast name for her. She was incredibly difficult to name because I was still torn about keeping her or not. Brit was the best on my list so it stuck. lol.

Classic was always Classic. I had that name on reserve for my mantle dane and it fits him perfectly. I did have Edgar on my list though with the registered name "Telltale Heart", breeder veto'd that one.

Zuma was Mimi when we adopted her. So not her at all. I had been throwing Zuma around a lot with fosters but it never stuck with any of them. I'm so glad it didn't because I can't imagine Zuma having any other name, it is so her. I did give hubby a choice with Zuma.. it was between that and Epic.

One of the fosters I had, a 5 week old brindle dane puppy with a broken leg came to me nameless. I tried Zuma on her, didn't fit. So while we were thinking of a name I just kept calling her Broken Puppy, which got shortened down to BP. Everyone came up with a different meaning for BP, there was Brindle Puppy, Broken Puppy, British Petroleum, etc. Finally BP got transformed into Beep and that stuck. It was perfect, cute and quirky just like her. Then she got adopted and renamed Maggie. It made me sad.

Another foster puppy I had started out as Trish and eventually that turned into Little. Little was an awesome name, I have no clue what her new owners renamed her to though.

I also had an Patty that got turned into Addy who then got renamed by her new owners as Piper.

Oh and for the Grover fans out there.. he was Kruise when we got him, he was promptly named Grover on the way home and I can't imagine him with any other name. LOL

Argon was 'Fred' for five years. I despised that name with all of my heart, especially for him. I tried out a few names for him, and Argon was the one taht stuck. He is so not a Fred, but an inert gas for a dog that seldom moves? Yes sir By the way, his imaginary registered name is 'Elementary my Dear Watson'

Gambit was 'Jonathon'. Yes, exactly like the human name. Not even Johnny, which might have been cute. I asked Chaz for advice, then narrowed it down to 'Coda', 'Token' and 'Gideon'. We tried Token for two weeks, then thought of Gambit, and it was perfect. His registered name is now 'Opening Night Jitters'

Cheshire was 'Precious', which may be the name I hate most for a cat. If we had one named Precious cone into the shelter, it was almost certain that the cat was anything but. She looks like the Cheshire cat from Alice and Wonderland. I actually did get her paperwork, and now she's "Grin without a Cat'.

Ezra was Smushy, but I felt like that name was almost demeaning to him (if I was called Smushy, I might poop in the drier as well :p ), so I picked a crotchety old name for him

To me, naming is part of getting an animal, and its a new start for both of us. To be fair though, none of mine had been in good families (except for Chesh, and she was only 10weeks old when rescued), so they didn't have any good associations with thier names.

Quinn was Amy when I got her at 8 weeks. I knew I didn't want to keep it as I know a lot of human Amys and it's just such a human name, but I'd refered to her as Amy for 8 weeks so it was tough to break that habit. Quinn was the front runner but we were also considering Peppy and Sookie. My mom really wanted to call her Sookie, which actually isn't a terrible fit but I do think Quinn suits her better. It's feminine and more mature than Sookie.

The cat was either going to be named Brobee or Bino. Characters from Briggs' favorite shows and Brobee has loved Briggs since the moment they met eachother. Brobee won because the character was green and the cat has green eyes.

Very childish sounding name for a cat who adores children. Seems fitting.

Loki being the god of mischief, my girl Loki is not troublesome at all. And she's a girl wheras the mythical Loki is a male. So it doesn't really fit, but I wouldn't change it for anything. Terra's name I love, but I always give myself a knuckle to the head when she digs. LOL!

Bryn is my all time favorite name for a soft dog. I think it would've matched Bandit a lot better. I also would love to name a kid Bryn but no one else seems to like it at all for a boy. Which makes me sad so it will probably b e my next male dog's name.

If you haven't noticed I'm all about B names for boys and P names for girls.

Nia was supposed to be named Valentina but because Nia sounded so good (that was the name from the breeder's) we just kept it.

Roxy came to us as Grooble. I HATED the name Grooble, dad wanted to rename her Ruby, and I didn't like it and eventually my mom suggested Roxy and we went with it. It suites her brilliantly.

Bella's name was chosen because my boyfriend and I were playing around with names and it was the only name we both liked for her, so we chose it. I love the name for her although nobody thinks it suites her. She is beautiful to me, he definition of beautiful, not in looks, but in the love we share for each other.

Leo came to us as Basil. I almost kept the name Basil but Bella kept responding to Basil. So we looked for another name. Because Leo was purchased for my dad so that he could heal from the loss of his first Rottie Simba, we wanted a lion name. Leo's star sign is Leo, and so is my dads, so we settled with Leo.

Felda came to me with the name Felda. It is her registered name, and I did not mind it at all so I kept it. It suites her well.

Fozzie was Willie Blue Eye when I adopted him... haha! I almost named him Gilligan, but I'm glad I didn't, because it sounds like a pipsqueak's name. And he is a manly mandawg. :) However, I really wish I would've named him Tunechi, after Lil Wayne. I was singing a Lil Wayne song and he raced up to me when I said "Tunechi!" he responds to it way better than his actual name. It figures!

Gonzo was Hank before I got him, and it didn't fit him at all. I almost named him Archie. I think Gonzo fits him really well.

Dance's litter name as a puppy was "Snuggle", which doesn't really suit her. Even if it did, I can't imagine calling a dog something like Snuggle, haha. I'd had a few names picked out that I thought I'd use ("Aero", "Epic", "Rumour"... and a few more), but not one of them suited her at all. And so she became "Dance", and I think it's perfect for her. Though she could easily be a "Fidget" or a "Snuffie" (like Snuffleupagus) as well, LOL. She's very twitchy and fidgety sometimes and she makes funny noises. But those are silly names. Dance just suits her adorable, fun loving, joyous, happy-go-lucky personality.

Ripley was almost a "Nigel". I actually do like that name, but it would have to fit a certain dog. And it did not fit Ripley at all. He didn't really have a litter theme name, but was called "Mr. Perfect" from the beginning. We almost thought of calling him that forever, but decided he needed a real name. Mom chose his name.

Keira was super tough to name. Nothing suited her. Finally we just settled on Keira, but I wouldn't change it. It's feminine, elegant and just fits her.

I couldn't imagine my dogs having different names!

Tucker was originally Smokey. We named him Tucker while he was still at his breeder's house (I think he was 5 weeks old when we came up with the name), so he was "Tucker" before we knew him.

Chloe was named by her breeder, and we kept it because we liked it and couldn't think of a better fitting name.

Rylie was named by us when we picked her up at 10 weeks.

Emma was Emma (Little Emerald). Her breeder decided to let her go at 5 months old, and I love the name Emma so I kept it.

Rory was Pudge at his breeder's LOL. His first owner named him Rocky, and we changed it to Rory (Red King) when we got him at 5 months of age.

I think that's everyone lol.

Jack was Biff at the shelter when I got him at 4 months. I had a whole list of male dog names that I made over the years and none of them fit. We already had 3 Jack Russells, so my mom said jokingly that we should name him Jack because he'll be an honorary JRT. It stuck! We mostly call him Jackie Loo, which is super feminine, but he likes it!

Mini and Micki are siblings and were called Angel and Mickey before we got them. Micki has 2 Mickey Mouse shaped spots on his back, so we really never thought of naming him anything else. We have a cousin named Angel and my dad suggested naming her Minnie Mouse instead. Somehow the spellings changed from Mickey and Minnie to Micki and Mini, which I'm fine with. It seems a little less childish and Disney-esque. Plus, Mini is smaller than Micki.

Kyra was Baby, Princess, Tinkerbell?! and Lildog before we finally decided on Kyra. We call her Ky Baby or Cry Baby a lot of the time.

I almost named Nellie Lizzie. I decided that was actually hideous to me, and Picked Nellie, which I also really don't like, by the way. I just pictured her as an old lady dog because as a wrinkly fat puppy, she already looked like an old lady and Nellie is in fact, an old lady name.

Aija was this || close to being called A Capella, but it just didn't work for her, I love that name so much and will use it one day.

Beagle was Biscuit, and still is on paper but her name is totally Beagle.

Jack was Jack-Daniels and I thought naming a dog after alcohol was silly, so I dropped the Daniels. I did call him "J.D" from time to time though.
