Molly, you are right. This is what I learned several times, dealing with prospective puppy buyers. In this case with Saluki puppies, it is the same story. A lot of warm wishes and even some inquiries before the puppies are on the ground. Then, most of those would be interested vanish, not always respond. However, I persevered, advertised, educated about the breed, entered hunters forums and became noticed. Interesting that some, who did not think high about Saluki before reading my posts, changed their minds and some even wanted a Saluki puppy, but exactly out of my hounds, not out of show/lure coursing lines. I sold one smallish puppy to a pair of falconers. One beautiful female will go to Oregon tomorrow. The last male will go to Hawaii, when he is ready. It seems I do not need to keep a lot of them, because they are not wanted by others. I am even three puppies short! Two puppies are claimed form a future litter. It is a lot of work and negotiations. I had to reject a few thieves and idiots and even faked buyers from a certain rescue group. They wanted to buy a few of my puppies and then claim they "rescued them from horrible conditions"! This is one of their methods to destroy a breeder. Be ware of this sort zealous corporations and all kind of idiots. If the buyer is writing and talking strange, he may be unfit having a dog, mistreat it, or he would want you to take it back, or worse. Sell to buyers with a certain minimum of intelligence. Did anyone ship a puppy to Hawaii? They have a complicated animal importation policy. I will not breed next couple of years, but I will help other owners of good Saluki to sell their puppies to rite people
