A visitor took it upon himself to beat my dog

Yesterday morning my husband and I went shopping, when we returned home Yukon had an accident in his crate. He pooped. So we had a visitor come over while we were putting groceries away and I was trying to get the kids to bed for a nap. While I was busy doing this our visitor took it upon himself to go to the crate and beat the holy living hell out of my dog in my home. Needless to say I was furious and after punching this dingdong in the face told him to get out and never ever come back. Well last night Yukon started limping alot on his front right leg. I tried to keep him quiet and comfy and hoped to wait until Mon and if he was not better take him to a vet. Well today the leg was swelled up and he was not using it at all so off to the vet we went on an emergency call. OUr visitor who had been over and done this, met us at the vet clinic [I called him to tell him he was paying the bill] and set up the account with the vet so we would not have to front any money at all. He had two black eyes from me hitting him, broken nose! :D
So the vet xrayed Yukon's leg and no broken bones, but he has either hit it hard or wrenched it. So no exercise for 2 weeks and then slowely start adding in little walks. He also had his ribs xrayed as he showed signs of soreness and the vet wanted to be sure. No problems there. The vet was rather disturbed at the goings ons and did everything he could to run the bill up and hopefully teach the jerk a lesson through his pocket book. From now on no one is welcome at our house near our dog. Every bit of progress that was made with his crate issues has been flushed down the toilet. Poor pup. Some nerve coming into someone else's home and beating someone else's dog. Mad does not even begin to cover my emotions concerning this. Yukon had a simple accident he is 5 months old these things happen, and I don't know when he did it. So Yukon has no idea why this idiot attacked him in his safe crate. All it did was abuse the dog, it taught him nothing but to fear people because they attack him for no reason at all. Poor pup. Let this be a lesson to me, trust no one ever with my dog or my kids.

Man I typed all that out and forgot to ask my question, how do I regain this poor dogs trust? He is submissive peeing everytime anyone inlcuding my kids go near him. Poor Pup. How do I get him to realise he is safe here with us.

Wow I would've punched him too, lol. I hope Yukon is okay. I guess you can just keep petting him and playing with him some more and he will slowly regain his trust. Sry, I'm not an expert at these things.

Yuckaduck, you have my infinite respect for not further injuring that idiot. I hope the vet bill was outrageous enough to teach him a lesson. This kind of thing absolutely infuriates me - the very thought of someone coming into my house and beating my puppy makes my blood boil.

I hope little Yukon has a quick recovery, both physically and mentally.

I bet your dog seeing you attack this guy reaffirmed his trust and your role in the pack. I dont know squat about dogs but I bet he learned good stuff too from this.

He may never get over it. Since he was already overly sensitive, this might just have rattled his little brain for the rest of his life. All you can do is try to be happy and upbeat, and see how it goes for the next several months.

Maybe you could make this idiot pay for a doggy psychiatrist??!

Oh Yuckaduck things aren't getting any easier for you are they!!

I am so angry at that man that I can't express (or speak without using some choice language!!) how I really feel!

Shepherds are clever animals, he will learn and regain some trust!! Talk to him lots! Tell him what you are doing and chat away with him in a soft voice as much as you can (like you would with a nervy horse) He will soon come round!!

I'm so sorry for you. I'm glad you left a mark when you punched him. Now he'll have to tell everyone what happened when they see him! Maybe someone will punch again for being such an a$$.

He breeds and trains GSD's. DOH!! If I carry a big stick I will hit him over the head with it next time I see him.

Yeah but it is only a slap on the wrist here, not even worth the trouble to sue him or charge him. But he is paying all the bills so I can and will nail him for everything I can
