    Baaad Gas!!!!

One easy change that can make a difference for gassy dogs is soaking their kibble in warm water for 10-15 minutes before giving it to them. In my experience, this helps about 50% of the time, sometimes dramatically. Might be worth a try!!

    Anti-anxiety meds?

I've had my dog training clients use both ClomiCalm and Reconcile (doggie Prozac!) in dogs with debilitating anxiety problems. The results haven't been consistent, unfortunately. Some dogs seem to improve a great deal, others don't show any improvement at all. It would certainly be worth...

My dog with only pee and poo in the backyard if there is snow.

Wow... I deal with clients with a lot of strange housebreaking issues, and this is one I've never heard before! If she was initially housetrained during the winter, maybe instead of making the normal association that she's supposed to potty outside, she learned that she was supposed to go on...

    Capstar pills for fleas?

Good point about not worrying about it washing off, DogKisses... I never thought about that, but it'll be nice to not worry about the timing of baths/grooming/swimming and trying to work the application of Frontline in with all of that!

    Capstar pills for fleas?

My big dogs have cast iron stomachs, but my little old poodle has had a history of vomiting with meds, so it's pretty likely she'd go down the same pukey path as Argon did... I guess I'll just try it and see what happens. I suppose that as long as I can keep the big dogs flea-free, she'll...

Sounds like Comfortis may just do the job on its own... glad to hear some of you are happy with your results. Thanks for the input!! :)

    Capstar pills for fleas?

I've been nervous about trying Comfortis, since I've never used an oral flea control product, but it might be time to discuss that with my vet... I've got to come up with something that works! I was thinking of trying to use some kind of preventive, then having the Capstar on hand to use on...

    Capstar pills for fleas?

Thanks for the input and suggestions... I feel a little creepy about the idea of giving the Capstar daily, too! I'm always cautious about trying new stuff with my beasts and I try to avoid getting too crazy with the chemicals... I miss the good ol' days when I was able to get away with just...

    Capstar pills for fleas?

Well, I'm giving up on the Frontline Plus program I've had my dogs on for years... last year we ended up with fleas that seemed completely unperturbed by the stuff! So, I'm trying to come up with a new program before flea season kicks in... was reading about Capstar and it sounds...

Best grooming regimen for a German Shepherd??

Thanks for all the suggestions!! I ended up adopting a 6 year old Shepherd from the city shelter near my house. Well, actually the shelter said he was 6, I thought he was 4, and after a trip to the groomer he looked 2!! A gorgeous, sweet boy! Fortunately, I have most of the goodies you...

Best grooming regimen for a German Shepherd??

Well, I'm about to adopt a German Shepherd, in spite of my fear of ALL THAT FUR!! I'm used to Dobermans and Danes, so I suspect I'm in for quite a shock in the shedding department... :yikes: I wanted to see if anyone had advice as to what kind of grooming schedule, methods and tools work...

Anyone know about ear ablation surgery?

Ooops... guess I didn't make it clear that it HAS worked. I've been using it for a couple of months and it's keeping her ear infection under control better than any of the heavy-duty antibiotics did. Since her ear is abnormal after the surgery, she'll need to be on the stuff forever, I...

Anyone know about ear ablation surgery?

Thought I'd post an update, in case anyone else dealing with ear issues could benefit from the solution I found. I struggled for months with different topical and oral antibiotics to try to resolve the ear infection, but everything caused vomiting and my dog was miserable. I found a product...

    Chinese Crested Haircut

I saw a post a while back somewhere in the forum that had a pic of a Chinese Crested with long hair on his (her?) head and ears and super short hair on the rest of the body, except maybe the feet and tail. This was a haircut, not just one of those fabulous, natural Crested 'dos. I should...

The REAL PeTa, a list of actual quotes

OH... MY... GOD. I've had my gripes about PETA over the years... (how does having 2 women in bikinis tofu wrestling in a kiddie pool on a street corner help animals?), but I never knew their views on pets were this extreme. Thanks for posting this... gives me an excuse to mouth off about...

What age did you adopt your dogs?

Don't pass up the older dogs... almost all of mine have been somewhere between old and ancient when I've adopted them and they've all been great! :) Baskerville - 18 mos. Abercrombie - 8 mos. Pearl - 17 yrs. Jack - 14 yrs. Smooch - 14 yrs. Pepsi - 5 yrs. Crack Baby - 18 yrs. Teddy - 9...

Watson keeps going to the bathroom in the house

You might want to talk to your vet about whether using a suppository a couple of times a day to prompt him to go outside would be a possibility. You may have to stay outside with him for a while each time before things get moving, but it might help to minimize the accidents in the house by...

    Dobie Diahrea

My Dobie eats Nutro Natural Choice and has picture-perfect poops! The only time she has digestive issues is if she eats too much at once. Be sure you're feeding the right size meal at least twice daily. Once a day feeding or overfeeding is always a bad idea for Dobes, anyway, since they're...
