not knowing who this poster is, (ill be honest, i dont kep track of whos who...)
theres some things that spring into the MAYDAY frame of the foxy mind...
this is an OLDER dog who is likley pregnant, ok, and your vet just says "come back in january"
if you are on your way to getting your liscnes (which by the way your breaking the law by raising those pidgeons if there wild if you dont already have said lisence (i do have mine, im a vector sepeces rehabber, the same rules apply to birds, just letting you know just in case as it can cause issues, not trying to be snarky) you should know the first thing you should have done was a simple blood test for heartworm, you belive shes a mill dog, spent her life outside in a little cage, in a state were mosquitoes are present. a heartworm test should be on the DO NOW list from day one, pregnancy suspision or not...
so step one, find a new vet, one thats not "old school" because any vet these days would not have you wait a couple months before reseeing a pregnant bitch, there should have been an apointment made for an ultrasound, or an xray, at the VERY least he should have you comming in for a palipitation and listen for heartbeats. so id firly be finding a new vet who is willing to do this and has acess to the needed equiptment,
i know farm vets, i know "little town vets" and not one of them would let a high risk dog of unknown mating go that long without suggesting at the very least an ultrasound/xray...
so you need to find a vet that will, your first steps, heartworm test and an ultrasound.
your second thing should be booking a c-section, i dont know beagles but as was already stated by someone who is VERY familiar with the breed, they would personally do an elective c-section for a bitch that age, i know for chihuahuas thats true so i would for her too...while under for the c-section have her spayed, that way she doesnt have to go back under the knife.
If it turns out shes not pregnant and shes that picky an eater you need to do a full work up and check up to make sure theres nothing wrong going on in there...
as for the food, yes please special order chicken soup, or innova, or solid gold or any of the better brands, this is not a forum "your brand is crappy" because of who you are, its simply a THAT BRAND IS CRAPPY, its like mcdonalds and cardboard...would you eats it?! no?! then she wont...if shes THAT picky cook your own food for her, there are lots of resoucres for home made diets and shes more likely to eat "people food" and if she is pregnant then she needs all the GOOD nutrition she can get, pedigree is NOT that!
i also think you need to reconsider your thoughts on abortion...personally i dont LIKE abortion however im VERY prochoice...primarily for health reasons...in dogs they cant make their own desicions, YOU are in charge of that, and this could kill her, heck even trying to save her through c-section could kill her...
had you imediatly had her spayed upon finding her you wouldnt have been "aborting her" because you wouldnt have knonw she was pregnant, and this wouldnt be an issue, this of course borders on morals, but my personal opinion is your belife that abortion is wrong should not dictate the potential life or death of a rescued animal, if your doing wildife rehab and veterinary medicien youll learn this very quickly, many rehab cases require you to abort litters for the mothers health and if your a vet you cant exactly say "NO im not spaying your pet becuase its against my morals cause she might be pregnant..."
now with all that being said, take a breath, from what i can see noone made any realy low blows at you other than pointing out some major things...IE not yet having a heartworm test and having her over a month?!
you live in a house with other dogs? a full blood pannel and titering would be top of my list to make sure nothings comming into my home that could harm my other pets...
so please, take the day tomorrow, take the 1hour ride into the city and see a vet with acess to an ultrasound.
shes either pregnant or overweight, no dog should bluge like that when laying down...if shes overweight you need to get her checked because its likely to be something going on...
if shes pregnant she needs to be checked throughly NOW and a plan put in place from there.
