I heard a lady talking today about how she was planning to get a dog. She's single, and was trying to figure out what breeds men liked in single women.

I thought it was an interesting discussion, because I'm personally very bad about judging guys based on their dog breed.... but I guess I always kind of thought I was weird that way, and never thought about guys judging women based on their dog breeds.

So that brings up the question:

What breed would you recommend to a man and to a woman to make them more attractive to the opposite sex?

For me: I know, without a doubt, that a man who is walking around with a yorkie either has a girlfriend, or has a boyfriend. I've never met a straight man who just likes yorkies enough to own one. It's true of a lot of small, fluffy breeds, but particularly yorkies.

I knew a guy with a huge great dane AND a huge saint bernard. I felt like he was overcompensating for something. ;)

I think the breeds that attract me the most are herding breeds - aussies, collies, english shepherds, GSDs, etc. Not so much the corgis, but the medium to large ones. Maybe it's because the herding breeds are my favorite dogs too. But most guys who get a herder are athletic, active, social, career-driven, etc.

What do you think?? I'm particularly interested in hearing from the guys on this one. :D

Well with Ryan, that's easy, he'll say Doberman :p Or pit bull type dog.

I think in general Golden Retrievers just attract MOST people, especially girls if the dog is a puppy, lol.

I'm not attracted to guys who own dogs...because the last thing my world needs is another dog. :p

And there is a straight man that comes into work all the time that has like 2 or 3 Havanese, and they're his dogs, not his SO's.

Do I get a cookie for having most posts in this thread? :p

For myself, once I see the dog I don't care about the guy anymore :rofl1:
A guy's interaction with their dog is way more likely to catch my interest than what kind of dog it is.
If they are playing ball, or cuddling, or talking to their dog... <3
If the dog is just there, or just along for the ride to get trucked around to get dog food and the guy is more interested in what is going on around him than what is going on with his dog...meh.

Breed wise though, seeing guys with pit bull type dogs (who are obviously NOT status symbols) and Great Danes.

Eeeek, I don't like goldens. Major turnoff. :p

Yep, I've seen some guys with fluffy dogs.... But I think yorkies are special.

I think a guy's interaction wih MY dog is way more likely to catch my interest. :)

I'd probably be attracted to a guy with my "type" of dog - Aussie, Border Collie, ACD, German Shepherd, English Shepherd, Collie, etc. Chances are they're a little bit more get up and go and more involved with their dogs than someone with say a Bichon or something (nothing again Bichons, LOL). But mostly those are just my favorite breeds, hahaha.

I'd say for girls, the chihuahua wins hands down.

I can hear the shrieking and "OMG SOO CUTE!!!" from 12 feet away usually lol

There is just something about those big eyes and the tinyness.

As for guys? I'd say big friendly dogs, like labs. I dunno, guys I know always seem to love labs. or beagles.

I will ALWAYS stop to talk to a guy with a nice looking GSD. Even if it's just to say "hey! Really nice dog!!" :p

There was a guy standing at the corner the other day, with a puppy, and the girls were just swooning over him, and he had this smirk on his face. Obviously, his plan had worked :rofl1:

There is a straight, single, older man that comes to the clinic that has 4 or 5 yorkies and occasionally has a litter. But he's the only one I've ever met like that :rofl1:

I will ALWAYS stop to talk to a guy with a nice looking GSD.
I just saw this and had to add that the other day Logan got called a good-looking German Shepherd. Not just a GSD, but a GOOD LOOKING one. He's a good looking dog, yes, but good looking for a collie should NOT be good looking for a GSD :lol-sign:

I like guys with herders :D border collies especially ;)

Though I agree with it being all in the interaction... If I see a guy talking to, cuddling or playing with his dog... Mega swoon :D And if he shows interest and is nice to my dogs? Ding ding ding winner :D

My boyfriend bought Spy birthday toys... Let's just say that got him big brownie points.

Paul is on tripple win when he walks Riley. He always gets major attention from the opposite sex. LOL!

Taz is attracted to all girls. He runs over to them, flops on his back and waits for his tummy rub and WILL NOT come back until I walk over and get him. I made the mistake of trying to wait him out once and I got loads of dirty looks for "abandoning" my dog. He's fairly well known where we walk the most. I hate wallking him :rofl1:

You should see my dad with 'his' dog... :rofl1: He's the kind that's always had big hunting dogs and he will just swoon for Rose. He carries her around and baby talks her more than I do my dogs. But he's also the kind of guy that points out little babies and anything small and fluffy is cute to him.

I used to make my cousin walk both my girls and he got a lot of girls coming up to him.

For me it's mostly the way they interact with their dogs. There was a guy with a chihuahua that would go jogging with it every day. He was always out there with his dog and they were both in FAB shape. And then there was a guy with a mastiff and a yorkie-poo and yes both were his. I thought that was cute.

We just had this conversation here at work yesterday, LOL. Consensus was that a puppy of any kind is a chick magnet. It doesn't really matter what kind and the guy doesn't really matter either, if there's a puppy the guy is going to get attention by proxy, LOL.

As for me... my ideal guy likes drivey shelties, LOL. There's a handful of other breeds that are also acceptable but if I was to build a guy the way you build a sandwich at Subway it would be shelties.

Well, any dog would attact me, assuming it was healthy and handsome and well behaved.

But women in general . . . beagles. They are cute and recognizable, and unlike things like Chihuahuas, they don't make you think, "Either he's gay or that's his wife's dog."

Clearly, if you want a dog to gather chicks, you need a spaniel or a retriever.

They are called "bird dogs" for a reason... :p
