I'm awfully sorry for the poor guy. I'd like to make a recommendation however.

If you're going to be giving him the syringe, let him see you with it. Don't hide it behind you. If he's going to develop a fear of you because of this, make it be related to the syringe, not to YOU in general. If it's not time for the syringe, don't let him see you with it.

In his mind, make him think:

You + syringe = bad
You + anything else = good

This will focus his fear on the temporary thing, not you.

When Mary tore her breast on the fence she had a gaping wound like that. You can't bind skin that is constantly stretching and contracting. She had a hole abouat 3 inches in diameter. I would hold my hand over the breast and make the nibble accessible so the puppy could nurse her down (so she didn't get mastitis) and protect the skin from digging baby claws. AFterwards i would have to wash and redress the wound. She shivered like that, but she also never snapped or growled. Zuess is a man of character and i just love him with my whole heart. I hope and pray that he heals quickly. I am so sorry.

Poor kid! I wonder if Lamb's Ear would work for this...helps to draw out infection and close a wound up faster than anything I've ever seen. We used this on an ulcerated incision site when my grandmother had heart surgery. 2 months of antibiotics didn't do near as much as 2 weeks of lamb's ear. And that's a plant, by the way.

What you might do too, is get another syringe and put something yummy in it, like chicken broth and go to him and give him a taste of that several times a day. (just don't let it drip onto his wound.) And when you do this flush, have someone feed him some super tasty treats and try to get his mind off it. Isn't there something else to use besides iodine?

Zoom...the lamb's ear sounds interesting...never heard of that. Glad you said it was a plant....wouldn't think an ear from a dead lamb would be very clean. LOL. Some of the great things we have come from plants...in fact, lots of the meds do.
