He taught a dog how to open and close a fridge and get their owner a drink, automatically making him #1 on my dog trainer list lol cuz that is USEFUL! screw sit and rollover..

See I've always just viewed him as a guy who's good at training tricks. Nothing more nothing less, so as long as he's not treating the dogs in a questionable way I think his show is really just for fun. Having a perfect trick in the end doesn't seem to be the goal... IMO it's more about bonding and doing things with your dogs. I've only seen a couple episodes but I've never seen anything that I would actually want to teach... having your dog flush the toilet? Pour a beer? No thanks lol.

But again I only know him from Superfetch so that's all my opinion is based on.

I just dont know about that guy. I seen him teach and encourage a dog TO HERD children.

sounds like a bad idea to me
LOL, I just watched that one yesterday...I was kinda thinking that could be a bad trick too if he was like in a school yard...but she was taught to go after the backpacks, not so much the child, hahaa.

Southpaw said it best....thats def what superfetch is about...stupid cute tricks...the training part is very brief. Its not aimed for people who want to learn to train their dog these tricks...its just entertainment.

Yeah, doberluv, def understand about the dial up issue!!!! Just know he is one more person out there that is anti-mean training devices & just really truly loves dogs. And he indirectly promotes bully breeds (just by using them as examples & showing how awesome they are!)...so mediocre trainer, maybe. But positive addition to the world of encouraging better dog owners...yes :)

Absolutely agree. He is kind to the animals and does manage to get them to do some fun tricks. That is thousands of times better than watching, for instance, Cesar Milan mistreating dogs.

Hey, that's a great idea! Our GSD use to herd our children. He'd saunder down the driveway near the gate. (we had a fenced yard, but he still didn't like them getting too close to the gate which was by the road) And he'd shoulder them back closer to us as we sat on the front porch. He'd just block them and steer them back. He also herded some little piglets that escaped from their pen. He ran along the bank where they were running fast and turned them back toward their pen. He had no training whatsoever in herding....just instinct.

This is an old thread -- from 2009 :)

But I LOVE Zak George and I pretty much think the same way he does in regards to dogs, among other things.

I do sometimes think his trick tutorials aren't very informative, as they are always based off him teaching his incredibly smart BC's. It'd be nice to see him training a different breed, who maybe doesn't pick up on things so fast, or break it down into easier steps to follow. But I highly enjoy his vlogs and personal opinions about dog training and the like.

For really learning how to teach a trick, I go to kikopup, pamelamarxsen, and a few others.

I follow his youtube and I've gotten trick ideas from him though some I've taught a bit differently than him. He definitely is very Disney channel happyish, but I figure he isn't that bad at all at training the fun tricks. I don't recall the herding one though... but I don't watch Superfetch hardly ever. However kikopup's youtube channel is my favorite. I love the way she works with her dogs and I love how soft spoken she is. I've gotten a lot of really helpful advice from her youtube videos.
