Your Family Tree?

Well, Rob found out that he could get a free 3 day trial to ancestry.com.

So he tries it out, and has tracked his family down to around 200 B.C. He has all sorts of people in his family... Polish, German, British, even some from WAY back when called the Azguard. He even has some royalty in there somewhere (No Wonder he acts like a King!!!).

I have been doing mine, and I am sort of stuck until I can talk to my momma, or go to my Grand Dad's and get the family tree book from him. I got as far as the 1800's. Mine isn't as interesting as Rob's, most of my family comes from North Carolina, except for my Great-Great Grandma, who came from Nebraska.

Anyone mess with this sort of stuff?

I find it very interesting and we are contemplating paying for it for a month or two:)

My dad's side of the family is very well documented. There is a "*** Families of America" group; we have two large books with all the family members listed back to I don't remember when. Lots of old family antiques; we have a rocking chair that built by the first member of the family to come to America; there is a plaque on it that lists all the previous owners and dates of birth. Of course, it is passed down to the oldest son, so I don't get it. There is even a restored family homestead in Massachusetts that we have been to. I love that it is so old and interesting; I wish I liked that side of the family a little more;) .

My mom's side is harder. Lots of Abnaki and a few other NA groups, with a big mix of Europeans. Not so much recorded. I'm glad you mentioned the free trial - it would be fun to try and find out more!

I dunno how well documented my family tree is. My mother's family is from a backwater village in the Philippines (they still don't have electricity!), and family history was not really the big thing to record.

On my father's side, my grandpa grew up in an orphanage. Not much to go on there, either.

Sometimes it makes me sad. It would be neat to know a little more about my family history.

Keep in mind that the trees you find on Ancestry.com are user submitted. Only as good as they say they are unless they've got rock-solid sourcing. But they've got tons of records online from microfilms, so if you really want to get into it, that part's pretty useful.

Careful though, it's addictive.

My mom was heavy into that last year...........she got a free trial, and liked it so much that she joined them for a year :)

I can tell you that Ancestry.com was very nice, polite, and true to their word. When she was finished she asked me to cancel everything for her........and they only asked one question "Why would you like to cancel?" I answered that my mom was finished with her research, and they told me that was fine. They canceled and never took another cent from the account.

They were very good about helping her search too, all you need to do is ask and they do what they can.

If you are thinking about joining, I would feel confident in recomending them.........they treated us well :)

I started mine... but I'm already stuck at 1917! I need to ask my mom for more information starting with my great grandparents... the problem is, they moved to the United States in the early 1900s so I may be stuck =/

It's pretty cool... I found the social security and death records for my grandparents so far. Otherwise stuck =/

We have ours on my fathers side traced to 1670 but that is as far as any records go . All the way back to BC I highly doubt that would be true. We traced for well over 20 years to come up with ours and it is all documented proof. Be very careful if they have your lines running BC because there were too many nomadic tribes and record keeping only was really done around 1500 forward.

I'd love to do mine at some point. With how many people have invaded and moved in and out of this country it would be really interesting, well to me anyway.

Two of our cousins have been doing a family tree and they have been working on it for 10+ years and needless to say, its quite extensive.

I find it interesting, and would love to do my own but that acutally means carrying on a coversation with my father, and that aint happening LOL

It is very fascinating. I have no idea how it could be traced detailedly to before Christ though. That's one heck of a long time ago. I guess we could all say we're descended from just a few people.

My Mom has some of it figured out and I know on her side they've got it back to at least pre-revolutionary times because one of my relatives was a signer of the declaration of independence....Charles Carroll of Carrollton. He did a lot of interesting things (just googled him) and was a "rebel," just like the others of his peers for freedom. It looks like I follow in his footsteps. LOL (other rant thread about regulations)

Anyhow....it is fascinating and would be neat to delve into it more. I think I'll ask my Mom. This has sparked my interest even more. Good thread.

Ok.. my curiosity was peaked as well. Now I'm going hunting for the book my aunt made... she had it traced way back and I just started my family tree on ancestry.com....

I never could get back very far on Tom's side of the family .... I know his mother's side came over as Huguenots ... they had a castle in Mausee France . ( Hence the family name Mauzy ) His father was German and I know 2 brothers came over early 1800s. My Dad's family was traced back to England and I think changed his last name .
