I adore my english shepherd and based on my current dog requirements (Awesome pet with no special skills) I see no reason to stray. Now, if I started getting into....I don't know....coon hunting, I mean change my mind.

I both have a breed...or maybe a few ;) and like variety.

GSDs were always my favorite breed and in many ways a good working minded, sound, driven but level headed GSD is still my ideal dog. But they don't always mesh with the fact that I always seem to have a houseful of other dogs...

I'm devoted to Belgians for better or worse LOL. I can't really imagine not having Belgians. They suit me, I know them inside and out which kind of makes "another Belgian!" always an easy and natural choice when picking another dog. They offer a lot of what I like about GSDs without the strong SSA tendencies. And the fact that in any of the Belgian varieties you can pretty show dogs and dogs who do well in performance is a big bonus. That was a big draw to me when I first got involved with them. "Hey, these people's CHs have all kinds of other titles. That's really cool!". And they're relatively healthy, can live a long time and have a nice, moderate build.

But...I'm totally smitten with PyrSheps too. Multiple people who have known me for years have said "I can't imagine you not having Belgians but...Savvy is like the perfect dog for you". I definitely will have another PyrShep.

Ziggy is really my husband's dog but if we could find another Ziggy type Cardi, I'd enjoy having another one. Ziggy is everything I like about herding dogs in a funny, short legged package LOL

And there's other breeds I'd love to have one of too. A sighthound, likely a Whippet. Or maybe a Smooth Collie from Nirreterrit. I had a Collie and loved him but never could quite find what I was looking for to get another. I like a lot of the oddball, rare herding breeds too but I probably like PyrSheps more (I did sort of choose a PyrShep over them to begin with...). I always thought I'd get a BC eventually but...again, it would probably be a BC or PyrShep situation and PyrSheps are more fun :)

All of the dogs I've had so far have been mutts and each one has been vastly different, so I can't even settle on a type. I will say that after living with my current two, I would love to always have at least one drivey, high energy dog for sports and one relatively mellow or older dog.

I picked the variety :)

I used to think cocker spaniels were my end all be all breed...

Over the years though I have come to know so many awesome dogs and breeds that I really can say that there is no single breed for me.

I still love my spaniels and if the right one came along I would have another...but I also love my basenjis and my shar pei.

I adore a nice ACD (I have had the privilege of getting to know the breed through a good friend).

So I think for me it will always be about the individual dog more than a specific breed :)

As much as I love opening the tailgate and turning the 'Houlas loose, there is just something about a shepherd.

After Mammoth though...I don't know if I could do it again. I loved my boy with everything I had and I sometimes worry if I will be able to handle doing it all over again. Something about my bond with him was so very different than the goofy, lively, frustrating emotions that I run through with the curs. Like we were speaking the same language.

I think probably I'll have shepherds periodically throughout my life, when enough of my heart has grown back that I can stand doing it again.

I love Dobermans, and I thought I'd definitely get another but after pondering the health issues for awhile, I'm not so sure anymore. The next one will probably be a smaller, longer-lived breed.

I definitely see myself owning lots of German Shepherds in the long run. So yes, I do have 'my' breed, and it will definitely always be GSDs. :)

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I'm set on Finkies for life. I want to own another breed randomly one day, but for a good, long while, I think I'm hooked on the red dogs only.

Border Collies, definitely. But again, I probably like a specific type. I don't prefer the look of confo bred and sport bred can be a bit too crazy (in a way) for what I like. So I'll stick with working bred. They're just good, all around dogs with level heads, and a sense of humor at the same time. Blaze is the perfect mix of serious and bounce (playful). I've been around some Aussies, and while I think they're super cool, fun dogs, they're just too bouncy for me. I like thinkers and bouncers, at the same time, which is what I find in Border Collies.

That being said, I'll probably try out other breeds too. But Border Collies are definitely 'my' breed. :)

An afterthought: The ONE downfall so far to the JRT breed that I have found is the JRTCA vs. everyone deal. Can't register Siri with any purebred dog registry, or you forfeit your JRTCA registration.
You can't even PAL (or whatever it's called now) with AKC? That's SUPER strict! I know I can't full up register Blaze with AKC (which is completely fine), but I could do PAL.

His temperament at this time is not what I was hoping for, but his personality is everything I wanted. He's not yet a year so his temperament may come around.
I'm curious, what is the difference between temperament and personality? I've always thought they were one in the same.

I'll never have ONLY border collies, but I feel a special connection with most border collies and really enjoy the breed, so definitely. they're "my" breed.

I think I will always like a good Labrador. And I'm pretty sure a good Labrador will always fit pretty much what I want in a dog.

That being said, I don't think I've found "my" breed yet. I definitely have breed loves (as in, I go head over heels for dogs of that breed/personality that I meet on the street/at work), but I haven't yet found that perfect breed that I just have to have at all times.

Labs are close. I think if I ever had the pleasure of owning a Rottie or a Pittie they'd be very close, too. I'm hoping that with Future Puppy being a Chessie, I'll get the best of both worlds in regards to my love of Labs and Rotts. And I never know, maybe Chessies will be "my breed".

But, all in all, I think I'm a mutt person. I don't have a dog breed per say, but I do have a type that I am head over heels for. Any dog fitting that type is perfect by me. ;)

BC's are definetly what I would call "my breed"
They fit me so well, quirks and all. And eventhough nothing about Quinn has been particularily easy or even so much what I expected I just love the things that make her such a Border Collie.

My huge problem now is that I'm falling in love with Malinois. A lot. I had them pegged as a "one day" breed maybe 10 years down the road when I had more training experience. But the current job I'm in, if all goes to plan I may be int he position to take one on so much sooner than that and I can't get the idea out of my head.
Doesn't help that I just keep meeting more and more people involved in Schutzhund and protection work and I would really love to get more involved in that.

I believe for a PAL she would need to be spayed? She will probably not be spayed for a couple years (if there is something about her that crops up and takes her out of the gene pool for breeding, she will be spayed earlier) and even with that she would need to be registered as either a PRT or a Russell Terrier (which I think the new Russell terriers are butt @ss ugly, ew.) and if JRTCA found out, we would lose our registration :/ Not worth it to me, I want to do terrier races!

I've found ONE of my breeds for sure. But I'm also pretty positive I will find more as time goes on and as I get to own more but Papillons suit me almost perfectly. I just love them.

"My" breed is Chows. I'll always have one, preferably two. I do like other breeds as well and will always have at least one other type of dog as well as I can appreciate other breeds and enjoy them quite a lot. But Chows are the dogs I can't live without.

I thought I found my breed when I got my Shiba Ruffian, then I got Tonka and I realized that no, I loved Ruffian, not Shibas, so I never got a third. Now I recommend people never get a Shiba, lmao.

I adore Bristol, my Shih Tzu, she truly saved my sanity, if not my life, but I don't know if I want another Shih Tzu either, lol. I do know that after having her and Diesel I will never have another shedding dog again, no way, no how.

Someday I want a Standard Poodle and a Bouvier, one of them will be next, maybe one will become my breed! I just love so much about so many different breeds that I haven't settled on just one.
