By the way, I've never heard of a snake owner also keeping non-edible rats
LOL, it's actually fairly common. :) I've found that many snake owners love all animals, not just the cute and cuddly ones. I think if you have it in your heart to love a snake, you can learn to love just about anything. ;)

LOL Merico, these are actually not failed feeds - they were intentionally bought to be pets. Pretty much... I thought their markings were too darn cool to be wasted on a snake. ;)

Fransheska, actually they don't soil their bed or their play tube - they go "downstairs" (it's a dual level cage) to poo and pee. :)

wow that is pretty awesome! better than my hamster.. lol he kinda just goes

soo are there cages more ferrety than hamstery? i know they are housed like hamsters in stores, but from the look of the lil bed, that seems like not the only way to house them

he is adorable...
and they make AWESOME pets
fransheska...some breeders breed tail-less (manx) rats! same ratties, same color variations, just no tail, they have the same great balance as tailed rats too!
they need a very large cage though compared to their size, many keep them in cages equivalent to ferret cages with many rat fanciers using ferret nation scages for their adults!
they also have to be kept in pairs whenever possible, EXTREEMLY social and inteligent animals.

i do miss my ratties!
Mine did tricks!

Fransheska, they are actually more like tiny dogs than hamsters :)

They bond with you the same, and can learn a variety of tricks.

Yep - they also can learn their names, come when called, etc.

I'll still always have snakes that eat rats, but I must admit that well socialized, frequently handled rats are pretty neat!

Awww I love rats. Its hard to have a rattie pet in a house full of JRTs. I mean I can keep them but they don't get much out play time.

What a super sweet face!!!

I had a pair of rats in high school. Houdini and Squeek. Houdini had sooo much personality. Its a real shame they have such short lives.
