So many people have so many thoughts and ideas on food that I can honestly say, that after reading through many, many, threads, I am SO confused.
Some of you know Buddy's story, if not, visit here: http://buddy.apokalyptik.com/.

But anyways, Buddy is on a Hills Science Diet (prescription) until the bag runs out, what do I feed him after? He's going to be a large/giant breed (darn that SPCA paper that said Shepherd Mix when he's really a GREAT DANE mix :D ) and I was told puppy formulas for large/giant breeds are the best. WHAT DO I DO?! ACK!

Any help appreciated. :)

The topic of food can be a very heated one to say the least and at times very confusing. So many options and forumlas that it makes it very hard to decide sometimes. What I can tell you is that with large/giant breed puppies it is important that they don't grow too quickly. Too much weight on a growing skeletal structure can cause a lot of problems. It is best to keep puppies lean. I learned this from growing a great dane pup. He was 60lbs and 12 weeks of age:eek: Anyway, I would steer clear of any puppy foods all together. It is best to just choose a good quality adult forumla and limit portions to keep your pup at a healthy weight. The foods I have had the best luck with are Canidae and Innova. They can be harder to find, but are well worth it because the ingredient quality is superior to most other pet foods. You can compare foods on the Innova website under tools: www.naturapet.com

thanks for the vote of confidence, guys. :)

to add to this thread, yes, i do think for a large breed dog an adult food designated "for all lifestages" is definitely fine. generally i'm not in favor of specific large breed puppy formulations, but there are a few exceptions, such as for example the products made by eagle pack and natura pet products.
