This is just a rant about my dad...hes going to breed his Yorkie. Hes not doing it for the money, hes doing it b/c he wants the pups. He loves his Heidi girl, and she is a sweety, but she shouldnt be bred. She hasnt had the "right" tests done, shes not shown, not registered, etc. And the male he was going to breed her to ( I havent seen the one he is actually going to), was a horrible picture of a Yorkie. He had a BAD overbite, and was just nothing like the standard.

Ive tried telling him ALL the reasons why he shouldnt, and hes like "I thought you wanted one?"...I did...before I came on Chaz and learned all the reasons you shouldnt. Ive told him his baby girl can die, have to have an E-C section, etc, etc. But what do I know?? Obviously nothing.

are there any yorkie breederes in your area, mabe if there is (or any breeder) you could talk him into going talking to them about the needs and precautions ect...

Its difficult for a child to educate their parents because often times the parent feels the child is being cheeky and disrespectfull and of course the parent always knows more about a subject than their child...
Mabe if someone he considers more of an equal talks to him about the subject (mabe your vet even) it might sway him or even change his mind completly...

Do what you can !!! He'd never get another Heidi if that's what he wants . Breeding to ANY dog with a bad bite is wrong ... plus all the other testings . My X SIL wanted to breed his female to my male . She was a very poor specimen of a Golden and I said " NO" ..... she was as sweet as anything , but poor bite , bad pigment , etc . He had gotten her from a friend ( BYB) . Luckily , he had her spade , but he sure didn't care for my evaluation !

Its a chain though....he got Heidi from his neighbor, a very sweet lady who loves dogs, but whelped her Yorkie a few times. She was not shown or anything, and I dont know about the testing, but she was probably not properly done. I did talk him out of not breeding Heidi to Bailey (the dog w/ the BAD overbite), and havent seen the male hes picked now. Its going to happen whether I like it or not....my dad is stubborn as anything. Oh and his vet doesnt see a problem with it, I tried to go the vet route.

I can empathize with you...in just the last 2 weeks, I have been in contact with several people who think that the only prerequisite for breeding is a uterus & testicles...no matter what I try to tell them they will say something like "that one would make a good little mama" or "she would sure make cute puppies"...the ironic thing is that they are calling me to come and pick up their unwanted dogs and here they are talking about breeding this one to that one and giving me suggestions that I should breed their unwanteds! I just don't know what do do...reasoning does not seem to work...

i second that, you tried and thats what counts, it can be difficult especially when trying to teach your parents...
im suprised at the vet...*sigh* when even the medical professionals dont tell him not only the tests needed but the risks involved...

I hope all goes well, try and make sure he breeds her to a smaller male thats been proven, it will at least give her a better chance of having smaller pups that are easy to whelp...

At least I know the pups wont end up in shelters and they have the $ for any problems that might arise. He's going to keep the pups.

I can understand your frustrations, I would feel the same way. Is your dad aware of the costs of breeding? It would be about the same amount of money to buy himself a couple of yorkies if he wants more!
